    Great job hopping back on :) I feel we often don't give enough credit to young horses going through water for the first time. It touches them, it ripples, it moves under them, the reflections, everything about it is quite scary! Very pleased with how you handled it and understood that for him, he'll be a great eventer once he understands that you wouldn't purposefully lead him into anything harmful :)

    So interesting watching a youngster facing XC jumps for the first time. He just needed to see them once and then got his confidence for the second attempt. Well done getting back on at the water. He was very chilled with that by the end. He learnt alot that day!

    I just got out of a rabbit hole of watching terrifying trainers with riders who were put in situations they should NOT have been in. Falls happen. It’s part of riding. But THIS trainer, knows what he’s doing and it’s refreshing after the TH-cam journey I just went on lol

    Im glad you made it through relatively unscathed! It’s always interesting to me to try to look at things through a youngster’s eyes. I’m glad Erol did well the next day. Give him time and he’ll be your 5 star horse some day!❤

    I am a new rider and purchased a young horse because I really wanted to learn with the horse and how to help train new horses. I had a bad fall yesterday when my horse got spooked but it taught me to be patient with myself and my horse. Seeing this video is encouraging. This video taught me to sometimes take the horse away from what scares him and then bring him back. Thanks for sharing.

    Well done Ashley! Erol learned a lot that day, he obviously was scared of quite a few things but with your guidance managed to get through it. A lot of training with young horses is just insistence to give them confidence in you as a rider and you did that! Also well done on getting right back on, I think leaving on a high note is super important for horses too! And about Max: I just love that boy! Such a handsome and talented horse, cannot wait to see what next season will bring for him.

    Love your trainers enthusiasm when you get it right! I think we all need that no matter where we are at riding , but unfortunetly don't get it enough ! :-) and I love how it's so important to push on so your young horses build that trust

    Youngsters need all the time and attention. He’s still got a long ways to go but he looks like he’s going to have a determination and go get factor. Bless him he was totally Cooked after that. It was a big day out for him. Max just looks on form.

Doing lots of TRT ground work with him to prepare for backing. He will be my 3rd to back and first stallion. Gets harder on us older bodies (58) - pushing 22 ya know 😛

    Well I've never seen so many 'internet instructors' in your comments before! I think people need to be aware that sometimes when you ride a baby, it's not pretty and perfect and you have to ride maybe slightly more differently than you usually would as it's just about being effective and positive. I think you did a great job especially after such a nasty fall! Good to see it didn't knock his confidence in the end. Excited to see Erol in the future! X

    "may have overreacted" chuckled at that part. Long ago my instructor told me that horses have mentalities of a four-year-old child. Always kept that in mind! Things are just scary! Hope you're okay, noise alone made me hold my breath for you!

    Heck girl, after watching you bounce on the ground, I felt sore! Good job sticking with it, both of you. Poor erol, for all he knew you were leading him into 20 feet of water with monster snakes & a rip current. As soon as he realized how shallow it was & had a couple goes, he was like, OK, I'm getting it, if you tell me to go it's it's OK to go! You & Maximus make a brilliant team, working those jumps together. Love watching the advanced lesson!

  • @sophiegae
    @sophiegae 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    As a novice rider in her early thirties I can definitely not give quality advice, but wouldn’t have been better to get him more used to water first? He seemed to handle it so much better once he was led in slowly.

    • @larahurley686
      @larahurley686 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I was looking for a comment like this. I feel like this would have gone way smoother if water was introduced through hand walking or even just giving him the reins and letting him sniff the water. This approach felt very rushed to me. But I'm not saying anything bad about Ashley or her trainer, mistakes will always be made!

    • @ashleyharrisoneventing
      @ashleyharrisoneventing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      He has seen plenty of water in different places and walked through it - water can often be tricky for lots of horses however many times they have seen it

    I had a fall going cross country schooling on my 8 yo. It was his second time ever and my first time schooling him. It wasn’t a bad fall and I got back on right after we caught him. It is definitely a bit scary for the younger horses to go schooling. I was a bit nervous but when my trainer hopped on him at the end he was still a bit scared of the jumps. We got him to jump the ditch though which he wouldn’t go near when we went schooling almost a year ago. We were very proud of him after
