- Thrustmaster was kind enough to send me a sample of their new TPR Pedals in return for an honest review. This is what I think, hope this helps you in your decision about buying these pedals. Enjoy!

After talking to Thrustmaster I was informed that the set sent to me was the same set used at OSHKOSH and had been heavily used for 10 hours a day for 7 days. A testament to their quality IMO. They look brand new still once I wiped them down. Impressive

I got mine a few days ago. Disclaimer I am an A&P licensed machinic, But I had mine all hooked up and under the desk in about 10 min. I made one adjustment to the toe brake height, and was GTG. I can adjust the tension, and the centering feel from my chair in under two min. I actually love how customizable they are. between this, and my VKB Gladiator NXT I have setups for rotor wing, prop planes, and fast jets. I'm over the moon with this rig.

3:00 It's designed with durability in mind, and I'm happy with that. It took me about an hour to set mine up, and I'll likely never need to do it again, unless I move them from under my desk, to say a pit or get a new desk etc.
As someone with an engineering background, just looking at the construction shows they are well made, I've just ordered a pair.

For anyone wondering these pedals DO work on the Xbox with MSFS if you use the Boeing yoke and throttle.
Wow, these pedals look amazing! Pretty darn pricey though unfortunately. On thought on the Brakes adjustment is if its held together by screw holes rather than a slider for a thumb screw, its not going to slip out of position over a long time being used. Like you said most people will adjust it once and leave it. Awesome review Jabbers!
I have the TM WH setup but tbo unless you are a heli or warbird pilot these are really overkill. Currently 100% DCS jet driver. I have had my Saitek pedals for so long I cannot even remember. I buy quality but $500 for a few seconds on take off, landing and then taxi when my prehistoric pedals work fine is a tough sell.
Actually in real life I can say you that they are used a lot, but in a simulator it´s true you don't really care about them.
I agree, Im keeping my saitek pedals for dcs but buying tpr for FS2020. I plan to fly a lot of GA and turboprops there. On dcs I rarely use them besides landing or taxiing.
They can be used in space games as well, then you'll use them quite a lot...even in a sim ;)
These pedals feel amazing to use - very happy with my set, feels very similar to the c172 but with lighter resistance (good for home use without shoes)
There are four rubber feet at the four corners, which are simply adhered to the underside of the bottom base plate. The glue is weak and the rubber feet come loose during use, making the rudder pedals slide while trying to fly. The base plate metal is expanded on both sides creating a recess. It would have been nice that similar recesses would be provided in the area of the rubber feet to trap them from moving. Now I will have to engineer something to prevent these pedals from sliding around. Maybe a sheet of rubber gasket material inserted under the base may work. Given the solid engineering features of the rest of the pedals and the high price, it's a shame that the rubber feet were not better engineered.
I have the thrustmaster tfrp rudder and it’s just doesn’t allow fine enough movements for really good helicopter flying. I constantly have to lube the rails to get good smoothness and at some point I’m definitely going to get these ones.

As a real world pilot, the dual view of your feet and cowling in sim is perfect. KUDOS! This really gives me a feel of the sensitivity by watching cowling movement and feet. Would love to see a forward slip in a 172.... yeah I know... huh... a 172? Here is why: All pilots should start their basic simulator AND/OR real world flying in a 172sp. This gives us a baseline of performance and familiarity for apples to apples reviews. I use X-Plane 11 and the physics flying model and control surface feel is far superior to P3D/FSX. I have never used DCS so I can't compare to X-Plane. My feeling is the best place to review flight controls is X -Plane due to aerodynamics, physics, and realistic flight model. X-Plane and multiple camera views will put your subscriptions over the top!! Try a forward slip or side slip in XP with these rudder pedals and I think you will be impressed. Be sure to show cowling, feet (differential braking also), turn coordinator (skids, slips, and coordinated), attitude indicator, for performance response. Thanks for review. Note: I don't have any affiliation with XP or TM. I am purchasing ThustMaster or Redbird pedals soon? Has anybody used redbird products?
X-Plane is good, dcs flight physics feel better to me, but could just be how the camera reacts, the performance, etc....but I agree on a lot of your points :). Maybe if I actually do learn to fly IRL I’ll get into civ simming more with real voice comms through something like Pilot Edge, but till then I’ll stick with dcs

Suggestion on toe brake settings. If you are sitting up high on a seat or having the pedals close to you, like a computer chair raised all the way up or close to your desk, then use the lower tow brake. If you are sitting down low like with a cockpit build or away from your desk with a mini cockpit setup like me, or with the computer chair all the way down, set them up higher. I use CH Pro Pedals and had them since Christmas of 1997 and that is the only thing bad with them the brakes are a little flat, more for a higher up or close chair. One thing about CH Pro Pedals though there is no swing either it is straight back and forth. Oh yeah best money I ever spent on pedals they are coming up on 21 years old.

I’m like the positive it locks in place design. Never like sliding thumbscrew adjusts, too easy to slip. Do it once, never deal with it again. Great review otherwise, really enjoyed the details like it uses Hall effect sensors, etc. thanks! Oh and I really enjoyed the final shots, dual view landings, great way to show them in action!
Actually, rudder pedals were originally mounted on a vertical axis, like in the fenomenal MFG Crosswinds you show for a moment. So for some WW2 airplanes like the Spitfire or Bf109, or for gliders - this is the real-life setup.
By the way - how would these compare to the Crosswinds?
Both are great, loved my crosswinds, but prefer the foot on floor approach.
Nice review job Sir, FYI..debrief on x-wind LNDG: remove more R rudder just before touch down, so you don't touch down all crossed up. OK on bigger jets; 737, 727, 767.

thanks for your video- how do they compare to the MFG Crosswind V2 pedals? Do you have a preference over the two? Do the rudder pedals stay in position (like real rudder/anti torque pedals) or do they spring back to a center position? Do you 'feel' the center position like cheaper rudder pedals or nice and smooth? Thanks for your feedback

And, yes I will buy the pedals as soon as they are available to me in Sweden. No offense to you Jabbers, but I just found myself trying to convert your units in my head to evaluate the size and weight while watching your video and then my fingers ached to write...
There is a SI-system, you know meters and kilograms? ONLY THREE COUNTRIES in the world still use the archaic Imperial/traditional system of weights and measures, USA, Liberia and Myanmar/Burma!
USA is not leading the way, it is left behind - far far behind. USA in fact took a decision 1975 to go to the metric system... Then 1992 some tried to oppose that and *ban* metric system use on US highways... Americans still can't let go of the old world. Strange.
I am in fact disappointed that the american aviation industry is so big that aviation all over the world uses feet, feets per minute, miles per hour, gallons, pounds etc. Sweden used only metrics in its own military planes until SAAB wanted to export the JAS39 Gripen. Russian planes and helikopters used the metric system. The trend is BACKWARDS just now, a "standardisation" towards imperial units instead of everyone going to SI metric system.
Eh, well, how many feet in a nautical mile, eh I mean in a mile, a statue mile, and wait how long time will it take me travelling at 300 knots per hour? It truly is a mess. It is only a matter of getting used to a new set of units - for you latecomers to SI system - then it is in fact MUCH EASIER. Every conversion is simpler. 1 km is 1000 meters, 1 m per second sink rate, 500 km/h, most calculations are easy to do in your head while "imperial" units are not.
Don't get me started on Fahrenheit! Only the Bahamas, Belize, the Cayman Islands, Palau and the United States still uses the archaic Fahrenheit scale (Canada uses it alongside Celsius). In aviation you fly all over the world and everyone everywhere uses Celsius, but pilots are assumed to convert it to Fahrenheit? Stupid is just one word for it.
I have some acceptance of knots and nautical miles based on 1 degree of latitud BUT the nautical is NOT defined by that today, it is 1852 meters! The world is NOT a perfect sphere...
USA is so dominant in aviation, movies, television series and also on the internet as well, it should LEAD the way instead of going backwards.

The imperial system took us to the moon and was used in the invention of heavier than air controlled flight.
If you screw the hal sensor in the first (lower) hole, the only thing that you have to adjust is the lower pedal part in any angle you want.
Unfortunately no, that increases the angle of the pedal and it won't be as vertical as some may like

Captain, thanks for your tutorial, I have a question, I checked the Thrustmaster TPR, when turning fully to the left and the same to the right, the rudder or the front tire of the plane only turns 10%, what could be happening in my configuration How can you help me?
Just FYI - you need to rotate the brake pedals away from you some more - as when you brake (IRL) you actually lift your feet off the floor and place the arch of your foot/heel on the actual pedal and use your toes on the brakes. You DO NOT want to be landing with a bit of wheel brake on because your toes touch the brake pedals while operating normal rudder function.

Perfect review! Couple questions. Did you have to send these back to TM? If so, did you then end up buying a set for yourself or did you go with something else? Have you used the Ruddo pedals? If so can you do a review or the TM pedals vs. The Ruddos. For me its between those 2. I just want to know if the ruddos are worth just about double the money. Thanks in advance.

I use TFRP pedal and love them. Plus they only cost $100
Myself, I really like the spread of the pedals....I'm guessing if the pedals are 4" wide, the gap between them is 6". IRL the pedals are about one foot apart, but most sim pedals are just a few inches.
Not sure what you mean by most Sim pedals, really only TM other pedals are that close, most of the others around that are worth anything are about a ft apart as well

Thanks. I'm a War Thunder player via mouse and key board and am making the transition to SIM play and I want to do DCS as well. So I'm looking at peddles, VR headsets, HOTAS, (I have a VKB Gladiator II Joystick) and a PC to support (I currently play War Thunder on a iMac). This is helping me narrow down my set-up. Thanks.
Do yourself a favor and stay clear of WT sim mode.

How does it compare to the MFG Crosswind rudder pedals? You obviously have them as you showed a picture of them in the video. Would be good to tell viewers how they compare to each other and what one do you like better.
I like these better because they are foot on the floor. I also love the crosswinds, but wished they were foot on the floor... my only complaint
They are half the price of VF Ruddo pedals, and man, I would take a little dirt and adjust screws for awhile to get them given to me for a review!! Js

is it just me, but the live feed at the end of the review, the pedals seems to be a bit stiff? there are points where it looks like stiction? (when you do the micro adjustments)

I am fine with my Pro Flight Rudder Pedals from Saitek...
I have some CH pro and i hate them, especially for helicopter. Wich makes me very tempted to buy these beceause they look to be awesome. But, 450-500 bucks? Seriously? It cost me less to build my sim frame with geniune sparco seat.
They are not going to sell very many of them if they don't make them available. They are still marked as "Pre Order" at B&H and 1 to 2 month wait at Amazon. They don't seem to show up anywhere else yet.

Hey Jabbers, any chance you can do a year on review on how the pedals have been working after a year. Any issues / problems come up etc? I am taking a long look at these but want to know if there are any issues with them long term.
I can say I still use them, only issue has been minor, screws on the outside of the pedals came loose, just had to tighten them. Nothing has broken, I used them multple times a week still

Good review, until you lost me @ 3:00, where you complain about the adjustability of the TPR. Now wouldn't that be a good thing?
Once it's done sure, but it really is a pain in the ass to adjust. I recently had a screw come lose and the entire pedal needed to be readjusted... I was annoyed still. Iit just could have been done better.

How about something on how the perform in a flight sim? OK, so you're pissed off about the brake adjustment. Looks like I need to go somewhere else for what I really want to know...how they work in, say, DCS A-10C of F/A-18C.
I showed usage in DCS of several planes landing in cross wind scenario at the end of the video. Overall these things are amazing, literally the best pedals I've ever owned. I'm pretty certain I covered your question, not sure if you watched the whole thing.

Thrustmaster should give you 10% of the profit for each sell of these pedals! Your video was the checkmate that made me buy this awesome equipment. It was a huge jump from my T-Rudder MkIII that is also a excellent piece of hardware, but the TPR give you another kind of feel and control.

Ya they are pricey, worth it IMO if you are a hardcore simer, as for the landings, was more the f15 landing I was talking about, had her up on one wheel :)

Managed to not scrape wings, but ya, that thing's wheel base makes it a bitch to land in normal conditions.

LOL Stefan I got my CH Pedals for Christmas of 1997 so coming up on 21 years. It came with that new USB 1.0 connection lol.

When I first got my hands on them I never thought they whould stand 20 years though. Although I replaced the yoke two years ago with the 16000m set because of star citizen I still use the pedals.
They are a little rough now but do the job.
Yeah I open them up once a year and get the dust out of them that might have helped a lot. You have to be careful though not to turn them right side up after opening it I did that one time and it took me hours to get it back together correctly. I also had the yoke and later I bought the Microsoft Sidewinder I think it was called? It had force feedback. I sold the yoke years ago to a friend that actually still uses it, so it is also almost 21 years old. The Sidewinder's stick broke off from pulling too many G's and I just threw it away and got the X45 I wish now I would have just got it fixed but did not even think about it at the time.
Stew yeah, ive had a MS Sidewinder pro 2 with ffb as well.
Little sensor in the grip that detected if you did actual hold the stick before ffb was engaged 😆

Are you supposed to wear shoes for metal rudder pedals? Coz I don't see how this could be a comfortable experience with socks on.
I use socks, barefoot, shoes. I prefer socks

what?...they don't even have CAM Profile base resistance? (bad for helos and props)...only looks :(...for $500 i will expect integrated oil dampener! ;)
They are better ones out there...hmm...but for the masses...they will love it!
Why is it bad? The springs make it work like a cam with resistance the further from center you go
Resistance of springs is directly proportional to their stretching. In these case giving you "V" shape resistance profile. CAM profile is letting you regulate these stretching and thus allows you to transform "V" into parabolic curve. Shock in the middle of the "V" profile, will be felt the most during aiming (Props, A-10C). F-18 with its FCS will be ok. But I heard that F-14 needs a lot of rudder input.
Fortunately there are big rubber stopers mitigating shock in midle.
I just prefer ball berings over piece of rubber...for $500...its just ....... great cost optimization.
I dont feel the V, feels a lot more like a cam, wish you could try them to see. Precision near center is really really good, a lot better than the MFGs were for me (granted a lot of this is cause its foot on floor)
setting it up is not a bad thing. if you don't like it, you need to grow.

@@Jabbers That's cool. btw, what is your sensitivity set up for your rudder? What should I do to delay the respond of the pedal input? This sim yet to apply the friction of the wheel and the ground factor. Tarmac is smooth as silk when you touched down.

You went through a full cycle for every test to adjust the toebreak and you call yourself a tester? What? How is that even relevant. Like, why didn't you use the pedals OFF the flightsim to see if you get any muscle fatigue/discomfort before you even plugged it in?

After suffering with the INFERIOR design and engineering (stiction / metal outside with plastic inside parts / inferior components that easily break) of my Warthog stick, I would NEVER buy anything from TM again. Shifted to CH products and had a much better experience!

You would have loved the early day of TM where we literally took them apart and maintained them like a car. Spares took 3 mo to get. It seems counterintuitive but those heavy handed are better off with Saitek/CH. One would think being metal with tight tolerances etc might seem "heavy duty" but it just means they are made of metal and more prone to failure if not tlc and maintained. My main concern with these is dirt getting into them.
Well I've regreased my warthog and replaced the PTFE ring, but 2 years of constant use, things are bound to wear out.

This is not a very good product right now. Please do not blow your money on this as it is no where worth the $600 price tag. If you were a billionaire and wanted to go buy the best pedals, this wouldn't be it. This only makes sense if you cannot at all get the superior and cheaper pedals out there. What there is to know about high end pedals is simply this: spring are actually poor approximations for rudder pedals in all aircraft, but they are mechanically simple to design, cheap enough, and do the job for the most part. If you're fine with spring pedals (and they are still great and fine pedals), Virpil and VKB both have roughly $330 pedals with toe brakes for combat jets. That is what these pedals are. No one is out there with spring pedals jealous of anything above those products.
Hydraulically dampened pedals are more realistic for jets, and far far more realistic for helicopters. Outside of extremely niche and specially designed products, look no further than MFG Crosswinds V3 with the hydraulic dampener kit. It'll weigh in at roughly $450 but you have full toe brakes that can be adjusted, optional spring usage, optional hydraulic dampener, and multiple cam profiles to suit your preferences. People selling these pedals are those who are simply moving away from the hobby, or building something crazy and spending thousands of dollars on something perhaps custom made.
I say this being an 11 year owner of TM Warthog and appreciating what it offered for as long as it did, and still having an extremely versatile and maintanable throttle. I appreciate what TM Warthog did for the hobby, but these pedals are $150 more expensive than the best general available pedals while worse, and $250 more expensive than matched performers.
