- The sounds of Red Shouldered Hawks always get me excited! Three Red Shouldered Hawks calling very long, loud and emphatically in some sort of communication issue in the Florida Backyard. Perhaps a little family drama is going down. Like most big raptors the Red Shouldered Hawks pay little attention to the humans below when they are going about their business.

Sharing a funny true story. I visited a garden center of a home improvement store and a continual Hawk call echoed in the garden center. At checkout I ask if a Hawk was trapped inside , the cashier said no it's a recording to scare the birds away from nesting inside , and it has been very successful in running away the customers but not the birds. The Hawk was pretty, Thank you.😄 for sharing.

We have a pair which live next door so I hear these calls often. Yesterday I saw one hunting a mourning dove so I was able to see the dove use its awesome fast flying skills up close.
I was playing this video outside. And suddenly started hearing a bird sounding very similar in my own backyard almost in sync
I love recording birds and playing their song" back. Boy they get pissed then leave. Mind you I hate hearing myself sing..

I love hearing the sound. It’s fun to look up and see them circling around. I also always smile when I hear the red-shouldered hawk call and look to see it’s either Mockingbird or a Bluejay. They are good mimics.

Just saw this today really enjoyed. I live in Indiana and I have 2 different hawks that get into regular fits in the air.
I enjoy the call of these hawks more than Red-tailed.
A few days ago there was a Blue Jay in my neighborhood imitating a Red-shouldered Hawk.
Sounds like there's a few Bluejays in the background, too, sounding the Hawk Alarm! Whenever a Cooper's Hawk visits our back yard, usually the first indication is from the Chickadees and Jays making a ruckus.
Crows. I've learned if you hear a bunch of crows it's a guarantee a raptor is above. Not often with the Osprey, I suppose crows know they aren't fish

A bluejay in my backyard thinks it’s great fun to imitate the hawk. He’ll call a few times and seems to get bored with it, the call degrades to a variety of whistles.

I hear them all the time around my house. We have tons of them!!!!. I will kill one Id it ever attacks my cat though. Decently one tot a neighborhood dog.. I do unless I let it outside with me. But I have an outdoor cat I take care I'd also.. but I can't let him in because of my Cat or I woukd.. now I am WORRIED for him!!..
Keep your cat inside! Problem solved! These guys rarely are big enough to go after house cats if they are fatties like mine. Also look out for laws because raptors are protected in many places. Sky kitties are amazing!
@@itit5475 I have an outdoor cat that has been visiting that I take care of. Now I am worried for him.. I would let him stay in my house but I already have a Cat.. I did buy him an outdoor Cat house though..

KIRK FLETCHER I’ve had a cat like that too. Usually they are “street smart” enough if they are already out there. I wouldn’t worry. Mine dealt with hawks and raccoons and died of old age. Cats are tough! Not my indoor ones though!
I think a full grown cat might be too much for a red shouldered hawk, but a bigger red tailed hawk might take it on. BB
