I think most people are overlooking the real issue. He wasn't fired, he was suspended.
Let's suppose he was actually dodgy and did damage/steal the packages. All he has to do is lie and say he read some links and he can go back to stealing.
If the company had any standards, he'd be permanently barred from working for them again, unless he appealed and proved he did the job properly. They could be sending some real scumbags to your house.

Same here. I use online delivery services all the time. Legally blind, partially deaf and Autistic, so I hate places like supermarkets unless I'm clutching a shopping list of things I want to buy in there so I'm hopefully, fairly quickly in and out again, otherwise I will just use Amazon, Ebay and a few smaller niche companies for various products I like to purchase, or I use Deliveroo or Amazon Fresh for groceries, food and drink orders. I won't shop Tesco though, because service dogs including guide dogs aren't welcome in their stores.

    • @vekien
      @vekien 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +35

Sure, but why is the company wrong? They misunderstood some stuff and even give him a direct option to respond and restore, unlike Uber who say "bye". It's also good seeing a company actually make an effort to maintain good delivery options. We see so many posts "package left in rain", "package thrown over fence", if we don't have these companies reviewing the photos and making calls, this will continue, I 100% guarantee you've complained about how a package was left before, probably at your front door in plain sight.
The moment he provides video proof it'll be sorted. If it doesn't, then the company is in the bad books. At the moment all I see is a company doing some actual due diligence, which is more than the others... There are no shortages of parcel delivery complaints.
LE goes above and beyond on all his deliveries, even food. Most are not like this, and we need these companies to actually give a shit about how packages are left. Aint nothing wrong done here and it's just teething issues with everything being new, for both company and LE.

I like your optimism (or is that naivety) that you think somebody actually checked anything rather than an AI reviewing the images (hence getting it obviously wrong with the first one) and then a computer auto suspending his account with no human being involved at all.
I just wish more people would wake up to that being very much a possibility, indeed likely. Automated actions with no human review have been an issue for years and it's only going to get worse as AI opens the possibility to do this even more.

Love working for Royal Mail for the reason in the title. Used to do Gophr while doing the other apps and loved it so applied to all the parcel delivery companies; DPD, Amazon Hermes are all self employed and so impersonal that any slight mistake u make can be the last mistake u make, meanwhile we have our managers telling us to make "mistakes" like leaving it in the bin or at receptions without concierge staff so we finish on time 😂

It's the world we live in now, automated action on assumed guilt until and if they decide to let you prove yourself innocent. I saw this coming a mile off years ago. Its so depressing to be right. The future is dystopian.
And the next chapter isn't just companies taking automated action and being completely unable to have a common sense chat with anybody, it's going to be AI making decisions that have real world impacts on peoples lives. Our lives are going to be ruled by computers, something that was purely in the realm of dystopian sci fi not that long ago. It's going to be a computer making decisions about you, and you're going to have to appeal to a computer when it gets it wrong. It's already happening, and AI is just going make it worse.

They do that to me all the time, or my house is reached by a 6 foot high wooden garden gate, so they launch the parcel over said gate into the garden just in front of the dustbins inside said gate and say, awww yes, parcel delivered, handed to resident Etc, with a picture of the front of my house, when they never knocked on the front door and physically handed me the parcel. Yes, I do have a dog, but he's a large but friendly black Labrador who was my eyes for just under 8 years of his life. Everybody's his best friend, more or less.

Somebody isn't checking. No human would have declared that first photo as outside and exposed to the weather. An AI scanned the image, got it wrong, and then a computer auto suspended his account. No human was involved.
I wish more people would wake up and realise this. Our lives are already being controlled and sometimes devastated by automated computer actions and it's only going to get worse. The dystopian sci-fi of yesterday is here today.

Thank you for this trip report. I hope the delivery company sorts out this "false alarm" issue.
I also hope your phone survived its attempted escape near the end of the video.
Amazon sells various style of rotatable/detachable forearm phone mounts that allow the phone to be show the map and route whilst riding and then rotated a bit to take the delivery photo, all without detaching the phone from your person.
Such a device might reduce the probability of dropping the phone, however, I don't know how it would affect the risk of a thief grabbing it from you. Some devices might have more secure grab-proof means of attachment than others.
It would be great if you would discuss the pros and cons of such devices.
    Ride safely!

That's a complete nonsense. I work for Yodel delivering 80+ parcels a day. It's a very similar app, with similar options (but not buggy).
Other delivery companies and Yodel work on scorecard percentages. Everyday I get a score, out of 80 deliveries how many pictures were compliant etc. Only if your percentage score is less than 90% do they even say anything.
Out of 17 you were only not compliant in 1 which means your score was well over 90%. That hallway one should definitely be contested with video proof.

at my house every single delivery driver bar the big ones (Royal Mail, DPD etc) just knock and drop, sometimes don't even knock and I just get a ring notification lol Seems you like went above and beyond for all of them!!
I don't think they were too unreasonable, my packages are always left right infront of my door, doesn't matter rain, weather, visibility. About 1/10 will attempt to hide, I literally have a empty bin next to my door they could use. So it's good to see a company actually taking these seriously, I bet if you send them the videos your account will be restored just fine no problem, or they'll double down which will be worse.

You can't win. People quite reasonably complain all the time about drivers using bins for storage, with inevitable results, so much so that some companies even have it specifically mentioned in their policies not to use bins as a delivery place...and then somebody complains that you're not using their bin.
