    I am planning to do a similar filtration system but using six clear rubbermaid storage containers with lids that are daisy chained together via two 2" pvc pipes connecting each container to the next but using uniseals instead of bulkheads. The last container will then connect to a 100g refugium tank before the water gets pumped back into the tank. Let's hope it'll all go well :)

    I really like to see yr dedication to this hobby, I'm just like you, can't wait to see this tank ready, the filtration that you are building is top 10 since it's being done to eliminate the complete circle of filtration, sorry for the mistakes that I do when I'm writing, because I'm not American.

    • @AquariumDomain.
      @AquariumDomain.  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Eues! No worries on your writing I understand everything you wrote. Yeah, so many filtration systems don't complete the denitrification cycle and just rely on big water changes. With my tanks being so big it is hard for me to do big water changes and makes more sense to focus on filtration systems that can complete the denitrification cycle.

    • @AquariumDomain.
      @AquariumDomain.  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey David! A few reasons...6x6 posts are general treated lumber which is more expensive and depending on the chemical treatment not always suitable for indoor use. Also 2x6s are lighter to carry than 6x6 beams, and lastly properly connected 2x6s are stronger than a single 6x6.

    How high of a tank would you build if you only had 3/8 tempered glass? Thanks.

    • @AquariumDomain.
      @AquariumDomain.  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey G Lee! Depends a lot on the design (bracing) but to give you an idea a 125 gallon 72" x 18" tank is 21" tall and uses 3/8" glass. So 18 to 21" with a very high safety factor for sure on a diy build with proper bracing...also could probably go 96" long again depending on the design/bracing.

    • @glee4549
      @glee4549 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree but on a 125 that’s just 3/8 plate glass. Would you not go higher with 3/8 tempered at 84 long?

    • @AquariumDomainFan
      @AquariumDomainFan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@glee4549 Depending on the design...if you are talking fully frame braced with 2x4 like my 3000 or 600 gallon where there is very little chance of the frame causing deflection then I would feel confident with 84" x 21" 3/8" front panel.

  • @algawura2
    @algawura2 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Any reason you are going 1/2" tempered glass vs 3/4" plate glass?

    • @AquariumDomain.
      @AquariumDomain.  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Alex! I chose 1/2" tempered for the strength vs. weight and slighter higher safety factor. With tempered glass being 4x the strength of plate/float glass I am getting a 2.8 safety factor at 36" or less water level vs. 2.5 safety factor on the 3/4" plate glass and at less weight. I know from your channel you can appreciate how heavy an eight foot long by 3 foot tall 1/2 or 3/4 inch piece of glass can weigh lol :-)

    • @algawura2
      @algawura2 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AquariumDomain. Thanks for the info. I have never worked with tempered glass sheets before and was cautioned a few times that the weak spot is the edge of the glass. Do you take any precautions or do anything different when handling a tempered sheet of glass vs regular plate glass? I cheated moving my glass sheets for my plywood tanks since I put the tanks face down for the glass install. This time around I am doing a similar style of construction to your predator bay with pond liner tanks with glass faces and I made the top 2x4s that brace the glass removable so I did not have to lift the glass sheets over the top of the tank to get them in. However even lifting the sheet of glass on my 700 above the bottom edge of the tank was a challenge so I ended up making a custom 2x4 stand to hold the glass vertically for cleaning and install which made it a fairly easy job. Looking forward to seeing this build come together.

    • @AquariumDomainFan
      @AquariumDomainFan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@algawura2 Hey Alex,
      Yeah, the weakness of tempered glass is the edge for sure. If you were to hit the edge with a hammer or something the glass would shatter, but the edges are not fragile or anything like that. I sit the panel on edge on just a blanket on the hard floor before I put it into position in the tank. In terms of handling I think it is more or less the same as float/plate glass, but in terms of impact it is weaker on the edge.
      I have always had my buddy help me lift the glass into position so it is not hard to move with the two people. Doing it solo would be challenging for sure. :-)
      I have been following along with your build as well....about time for the next installment (no pressure) lol :-p

    • @AquariumDomain.
      @AquariumDomain.  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey LaMar! Rounded tanks are preferably for open water swimming sharks (Blacktip Reef Shark, Lemon Shark, etc.) who can bump their noses and cause damage over time in a square tank. The sharks I am keeping are benthic reef shark species who do do not swim in the same manner as open water sharks. Sharks like Horn, Bamboo and Swell sharks do great in non-rounded aquariums.
