  • We tried to get in at the Huguenot Monument but unfortunately it was closed. We were still able to see what it looked like from the perimeter though. We drove further towards the mountain and happened upon the Franschhoek Pass and what a stunning pass it is! This was a fantastic surprise! The views from the top and on your way to the top is breathtaking. At the top is the Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve with hiking trails I would love to do some day. Fynbos Leopards can be found here, now one of those I would just love to see! #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #pass #franschhoek #renaultkwid #huguenot

      I've been on a motorcycle a time or two in my younger days, so I can very well imagine what an exhilarating ride that must be! 🏍️ I prefer four wheels nowadays though. 😁🚗

      The natural beauty is astounding! 🤩 You're right, we don't realise how many such places there are to visit in South Africa.

    Such a beautiful pass. I travelled this one many times with my Beloved. So all he good memories come back, but laced with sadness because I miss him so. Now, a question! When I still lived in Bellville 3 years ago, there beggars at every robot. But I havent seen a single one since I been watching you. What has become of these poor souls?

      It is a stunningly beautiful pass, the view of Franschhoek from the top took our breaths away. 😍 Unfortunately poverty is still rife and there are beggars everywhere. We don't focus on them in our videos, but they're definitely amongst the people on the streets in the towns we explore, especially at shops where food is sold. 😢

    Curtis-when you say Huguenot-is that the same as the peoples that settled here in the states, specifically New Paltz? What is that monument all about? How far from home are you on these little trips?

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the Huguenots were French Protestants who fled France to escape persecution and settled in South Africa and the United States, amongst other places. The Huguenot Monument in this video represents the spirit of religious freedom. I was unfortunately too far away to show the woman clearly. She has a chain in her left hand and the Bible in her right. Our trips are from a Monday to Sunday and normally our furthest point from home is about 700km (or 430 miles). We'll start travelling further soon though. 😊
