- October 2020.... yeah I know it's been a few weeks....
But the first installment of the Starcke River Adventure is finally cut together into some sort of watchable format.
5 days of Driving, Fishing, Boating, Adventuring, Camping and SWEATING!!
So dam Hot!
Next time we head up north of Cooktown we will have portable airconditioners!
Some of the best fishing possible... from throwing lures out the back of the boat for pelagics to bottom bashing with bait!....
Not to mention some of the most epic weather... which 'helped' with the heat!

I lived at the Starcke River back in the 90's, working as a deckhand. I'll tell you a trick for catching grassy sweet lip.. Those cone shaped hermit crabs all over the beach at Starcke right? Collect a couple of handfuls and suspend them in a prawn netting crab pot bait bag over a bucket of salt water in the sun and they'll leave their shell and drop into the water. Sweetlip all day long... I lived on grassy and Queen fish, the odd scrub bull as well. used to get monster finger mark and jack around the little island in the middle of the river too... Find a school of diamond scale mullet and do some donuts in the boat on top of them and they'll jump in the boat for you.. I haven't been there for 25 years, the place was untouched back then... You wouldn't see another boat. Looks like a madhouse now though by the looks of it. there used to be pawpaw's that I'd snag up past the fresh next to an old structure, might not be there anymore..
Good fishing around Petherbridge... we got sloshed at camp one night and went out to Lizard looking for a party but they ran us off... lol.. Fun times in no mans land back in those day's, it used to take anywhere between 5 and 24 hours to drive up from Cooktown back in those day's.
