  • Mud and mayhem highlighted Carlson Moto’s first visit of the year to Crandon International Raceway, as slick conditions, limited passing opportunities, and lots of rubbing forced Andrew Carlson to just miss the podium in both feature classes. The annual spring Brush Run at the famed short course off-road venue saw stacked fields, big crowds, and lots of water as the Championship Off-Road series kicked off rounds three and four of a 12-race season.
Once again, The Carlson Moto crew arrived with both their PRO 4 truck and PRO TURBO side-by-side ready to ascend to the top of the box with dauntless speed and flawless preparation. But a combination of rain and unexpected track watering transformed the often fast and blue-grooved Crandon course into a single-lane, mudslinging test of survival.
The depth of talent and competition in the PRO TURBO SxS class continues to get even better. That depth combined with a single line track forced Carlson to battle slower racers throughout Saturday’s final Despite having a Polaris RZR capable of running at the front. With passing opportunities rare, Andrew was forced to settle with a 5th place finish.
On Sunday, it was more of the same. However, this time limited visibility and a cut tire at the mid-point of the race meant a podium finish would have to wait.
“Our Polaris has plenty of speed, but the track simply didn’t come around to our set-up or my driving style,” said Andrew. “But we feel good about coming home for the next two rounds. ERX is a track where technical drivers rise to the top, so I feel good about my chances.”
There’s little doubt PRO 4 is the crown jewel of the Championship Off-Road series, and for Carlson Moto, they firmly believe their Red Bull PRO 4 truck is a rocket ship that has the potential to win it all on any given weekend. However, victory at the spring Crandon race wasn’t meant to be as a rare mistaken by Carlson on Saturday and a broken axle caused by another truck that unexpectedly spun out on Sunday, hampered the teams podium efforts. Still, Carlson’s perseverance was awarded with a 4th place finish.
In PRO4, where Andrew is ranked amongst the best off-road drivers in North America, expectations were again running high. Qualifying third for Saturday’s final and battling with the leader early on, Carlson caught a rut and barrel rolled his truck on the opening lap. Undeterred, he regained his composure and his battle at the front until he was collected by a multi-truck
“Heading to our home track for the next two races is just what we need,” said Andrew. “We’ve got the right guys, the right equipment, and now it’s up me to put it all together. I’ve got a lot to prove, and there’s no better place for me to do it than ERX.”
