This video has enhanced my skill and also got me thinking on how to get the proper effects. GREAT is all that comes to my mind. AND A BIGGGGGG THANKYOU for your efforts. Looking forward to some more tutorials from you
Thanks for your tutorials. In the composite utility you can change operators using the up/down arrows once you have selected one, much faster than the pull-down menu.
Hi Arvid, thanks for yet another great tutorial. I'm currently working in C4D, so I'm followin closely step by step. When you select a colour in your tutorial is the colour wheel shown part of the Maya UI, as it looks different in C4D? I can't select drop downs for each of R, G and B, so I'm guessing it is, but if its an actual Arnold option, would you be kind enough explain how to access it. Cheers B
is there a way to implement bump maps into this setup? Should I apply bump to each shader than blend or first blend them and then find a way to use bump map? to enhance the layered effect? Thanks for the great tutorial by the way!
Amazing and useful as always. I have a question about deep rendering. In older versions I just set the beauty pass as the only one with deep data and all my other AOV would be rgb or rgba. I tried the rbga pass but it doesn't render deep data and if I just render them all in deepexr I loose my other passes. Whats the catch?
Thank you for this tutorial. I was attempting to duplicate this using C4DtoA and I ran into an issue when I tried to make the mask using the ambient occlusion node. There is no remap color node in the c4d version so I tried a color correct or an rgb ramp node but neither could give me that pure black/pure white you got with the remap node. As a result, the transition from iron to copper is "fussy" rather than the hard transition you got. I have no idea if you know but do you have any suggestions for recreating that mask in c4d?
somewhat off topic, but how did you get the tabbed layout for you viewport? i can add windows/menus as tabs, but only ontop of the persp view, as a separate view. i cant add them inline as you have them.
Hi Arvid Schneider, nice tut ! Did you know if this possible to animate the noise of the shader to make something like animated dissolve shader? I'm gonna try it but let me know if you have some tips ! cheers
When it comes to texturing/shading a concrete floor with bumps, do you recommend using a MixShader with noise or Diffuse with Spec/Bump images for realism?
I'm working with Arnold 5 as well and i want to know if you ever ran across the problem of your batch render not rendering Maya textures (noise, grid, fractal..) as I'm using it for procedural texturing?
Thank you very much for this!!! I use Layered Shader in Arnold 4, and made a transparent coat!!! (sounds silly,, but for me was WOWW !) But is very very expensive in render time.
I'm not a tech expert but I have a i7 7700 3.60ghz CPU. Whenever I try to render anything in arnold even if it's just a simple render of a plane with one light my CPU is using 100%. Is this a problem on my end?
Nice viedo Arvid!! i'm working w Arnold too and i have a question about Render View, hope anyone could help me??? In the video Arvid showed a 3rd window next to the camera selecion in renderview, and i don't have it, it doesn't seems to be AOVs, how can i turn on this window, to select the "isolated selected, wireframe..." THANK YOU and nice videos!!!
Arvid Schneider, or Anyone, please advice. Does Arnold have a bump shader similar to Vray's bump shader? I am blending (mixing) 2 shaders together. And I am looking for way to apply bump to the mask the separate the 2 different shaders. (in Vray. I would use a bump shader to achieve that) Anyone know to do it in ARNOLD? Please please.
The bump nodes are acting weird these days. AiBump2d sometimes gives me strange artefacts when I piped together too many procedurals, while (legacy?) maya bump works a lot better.
LOL crash at 18:51 . We all feel the pain Arvid! Thanks for the great tutorial!! :D

Hi, Arvid. Great tutorial. btw would u like to make a video for Substance Painter to Arnold 5?
thx
yes

Thank you for your job Arvid. How do you get the Arnold RenderView window always on top?
Arvid, thank you very much from Russia!
Arvid, thanks a lot for your all Arnold tutus :)

Hi Arvid, any chance of doing a mesh light tutorial for Arnold 5??
Great stuff, any tips about making snow shader in Arnold ?
Question: How do you take the "copper" noise map, and plug it into the bump map, so that the copper appears to "lift off" the other shader?
are there any advantages to using a mix shader vs layer shader in A5?
Hm I dont think so..but a very good question!
just got confirmation from Peter Horvath, no speed difference in mix vs layer.
Cool, I thought so. Because internally shaders just output closures which can be blended together as pleased. But thanks for clarifying.
Arvid Schneider Arnold 5 rules 🤘

i love every sigle of your video ! thank you
cool, And the displacement, how merge ?
hey there! thanks for the tutorial! how would you go about making water stains/pools on the floor or a cloth?
you could try changing diffuse, specular ior and bump, wherever it is wet
hi Avid, thank you for your tutorials, you are great! Did you plannig to do more advanced tutorials? maybe paid ones? thank you.

I personally would never render rgba in deep. Render just a deep alpha pass, and then recolor the beauty pass in nuke for deep compositing.
Hey Arvid, great video! May I ask what servicepack (or updatepack?!) you use for maya and which gives you the most stable experience? cheers!
Always go with the latest available as they fix the bugs. I am on update 3

+vichtify sure you can just animate it.
Best Video, you way of explaning is awesome, Thanks Bro
Thanks appreciated!
is this shader comparable to vray blend material?
Hii, Arvid really helped me I am interested to learn Arnold fully .......where should i start should i see all ur videos on youtube ....
All the principles apply also in previous tutorials. There is a lot of information, so I would recommend to check them out yes

Hi Arvid can you talk about the backligthing in arnold 5 please in the next video
I was just looking for a way to mix 2 different shaders together and your tutorial came out.
It's perfect as usual !
how do mix displacement map?
fantastic tutorial, thanks man!
awesome as usual.
Thank you very much for this!!! I use Layered Shader in Arnold 4, and made a transparent coat!!! (sounds silly,, but for me was WOWW !) But is very very expensive in render time.
Would you like to make one with skin shader with arnold 5?
Is the layer_color workflow gone?
Nevermind I used the combine plus mix to get the same result, as you did here.
Nice tutorial.
Cryptomatte is it available for Arnold 5 ?
not yet.
yeah, support.solidangle.com/display/A5AFMUG/Cryptomatte
hi!
where can i download Mix shader, thanks!
what?!
Ai mix shader is part of Arnold 5, not available in early versions
Awesome! I'm subscribed!
Hi, Arvid .And Thank you for good tutorial
.How i can upgrade the Arnold in Maya 2017 to Arnold 5
just visit solidange.com and download and install the latest
missing a couple items in maya 2018 arnold renderview.. the AOV (?) dropdown and the bottom left 'lock' node... anyone know where i can find this?

this is normal and no problem. decent cooler/heatsink and you are fine.
errrm, thats what a cpu is supposed to do. full utilization.
oh ok. still getting used to learning about PCs and specs just wanted to make sure i wasnt risking breaking something.
what's the mean of mtao ?
Maya to Arnold

+Josep Cid go through the menus, there is a debug shading toolbar.
Arvid Schneider thank you very much :)
Thank you so much🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
lovely
thx for very usefull tut man.

I have the same question :P
wow you have a lot of knowledge in node editor
18:21 its so fun, work with maya 😂
Wowwwwww
Thanks!

hm interesting. It should be working just fine
