My dad used to fall asleep while playing his mandolin. He would play it until he couldn't any longer. He passed away 3 years back and I inherited his mandoline. I couldn't strum or play a tune to save my life and we have always been a music inclined family. Cut a long story short after 3 years I decided to pick it up and gave it a go and after finding your channel I am actually beginning to improve. Love the way u teach and love the fact that I can contribute a little to someone that cares and has a love for others to learn. Be blessed this Easter.
My name is Aaron. My wife and I saved up and I was able to order a very inexpensive mandolin which arrived two days ago, to start learning on. It's an Epiphone, which is the best I could afford. One of my daughters and I started by trying this lesson. At first I doubted I would be able to play this, but your instructions were very clear and easy to follow. Now, I can play it thanks to you. I even posted a video of myself playing it. Thank you for your lessons, and for making them available for free for those of us who are not able to afford lessons otherwise.
Comin' in from 2024 and I just want to say thank you for all the work you have put into Mandolessons and how much joy you bring to others with your education. Been watching you since 2014 and I'll keep on doin' so
Has it ? I just started mandolin from guitar and have been worried the different tuning will make me forget guitar automatism and miss notes on the guitar.
Hats off to you my friend! I have been stuck in one of the hardest hit areas for the COVID-19 virus and in lockdown for two months. Your videos have not only helped me learn a new instrument but lifted me up during these stressful times. Thank you again and stay safe.
I am a by ear player and have found your videos indispensable. I’ve always loved banish misfortune and have listened to various Irish bands play it wishing I could also. Voila what seemed out of reach previously is actually flowing out of mandolin after one hour. Most likely because the tune is already firmly imbedded in my head and most certainly because of the way you break up the parts into bite sized bits. Thanks Baron. All the best from Canada 🇨🇦 I love this channel
So happy that you post videos like this! I am 16 and it's really hard to find videos that aren't twelve million years old :) Thanks so much! Your vids really help me learn. Keep it up!!!
Really good videos chap. Thank you. Picked up my mando this week after 5 years (house move), I had some muscle memory but had lost a lot. All coming back quickly now thanks to your vids. Your teaching style is really clear too (I'm a teacher in UK), really well done. Thanks again.
If a tune would catch my fancy, I typically try to play along phrase by phrase, write the fingered notes down on a tab sheet for future reference. Then I would look for other versions, possibly a bit more advanced, or maybe not. I could now practice these tunes for hours. Now and then I would take a few tunes out to the streets or to the farmer market for a busking session. So, to make story short, I have gathered a fair number of fine old fiddle tunes from your teachings. I could also slow down other recordings by other folks to learn other tunes this way. I thank you, Baron. Gratefully, Bob
I am a violin and viola player and started to practice Mandolin, and your lessons are so excellent that I picked the song at once,i just donate to you.Great
I just learned my first song on Mandolin thanks to you, & even added in a few blues licks to make it sound funky. You seem a bit fast at some intervals (for beginners) & it's tough seeing your finger placement sometimes, but overall I'm hooked on your lessons. So glad you're doing this for everyone! Keep on truckin'!
It is really helpful the way you break the tune up into sections for learning. It would make it even easier for me to play along with you if at the start of each section you reminded me which finger and which string we start on.
Another fine tutorial. I have watched a lot of different folks on here, but you my friend make it really easy for me. I appreciate you taking the time and breaking it down piece by piece. I'm glad I found your channel. Excellent keep it up!!
Wow, I love your style of teaching! The speed of teaching is great and the tab helps tremendously! I have been trying to learn this song from an in person mando teacher and he left me in the dust with his constant, look at me! picking. Needless to say I quit those lessons. THANK YOU!
Fascinating play, I was always taught to play Dudu and here you are playing the jig Ddudd. It sounds different to my ear, more brilliant sound. Am I interpreting this right? What dictates the moves dudu or ddud? Great playing, I am planning to join your teachings. Many thanks, Andre
i wish there was a game (like guitar hero) for the mandolin i get a bit overwhelmed with trying to keep up with even the slooowist playing how can i put the notes down so i can keep up with the slow playing? thanks for sharing your talent
Definitely! It has to be in the public domain (not copyrighted), but if you have suggestions I would love to hear them. You can email me through my website. Thanks for watching!
Hi I'm really trying to learn spootiskerry on mando but finding it very hard. I'm wondering if you no this tune and if so please can you post it as I find your lessons are great and it's easier to follow the notes. Many thanks.
I, like the others, enjoy your mandolessons. Can you begin posting some traditional Bluegrass tunes. Maybe some leads from different songs in various keys.
Hello mando man - can you demonstrate how you hold the pick I hold it pointing at the strings in a triangle kind of way - yours looks well different. Thanks From the Highlands in Scotland.
Every tab sheet I see for this does not call for the use of the seventh fret on the A string yet everyone I see play it plays that note that is not called for on the tabs.
Hi I watched your video with real interest. I've been considering buying a Madoline for sometime. I enjoyed the sound of the madoline please can you tell the make. I am an experienced musician up to level 4 but reading tabs will be new to me but I'm looking forward to it. I play piano accordion and read music score to L4. I'm looking forward to your reply. Best wishes Norman
+Clownhall My mandolin was built by Tom Ellis in Austin, Texas. I have a page on my website talking about what mandolin I recommend as a quality first instrument. Thanks! Baron
MandoLessons Hi! I was wondering where you found the music for the first version? I do better reading sheet music and the one I’d previously found only uses the E string once, and I love how it sounds with it
Tell me , Why just one string sounds and not the 2 same strings? I listen you since longtime but i've never heard or rarely the 2 same strings on a musical piece ??..
how about cutting the tab by bar to show what notes you'll play? not so simple to see what you're doing, for folks who don't know what they're doing (me!) thanks for the tips
thanks for posting the lessons but your old method of teaching worked better for me. it takes much longer to follow along with the open notes. your old method is what drew me to your lessons.
kshillbilly1967 I'd love to know more! Do you mean by the way it is taught or by the way it is filmed, or something else? I'm always looking to make the experience better. Reply here or shoot me an email from my website! I appreciate the input. Thanks,Baron
MandoLessons the filming is great but the first lessons i viewed were easier to follow. you would go through the sections and give the notes in your breakdowns. i could follow along without even looking at the video. your previous format helped get each note instead of having to watch to try to get each one. sometimes it is hard to tell which string is being played. the method usedbefore made it so easy to follow along especially with so many different notes being played.

Lol my name is also Aaron and I too picked up an Epiphone as my first!
Thats fantastic. Both of you. Good luck and stick too it. And most importantly have fun!!

I have found that since I started playing mandolin, my guitar playing has become much more precise...thanks for the Video :) Subscribed!
Thanks! Happy picking!
I will be coming back to your site often for tips and such :)
Same here. Timing as well.

I’m beginning on the Irish bouzouki tuned GDAD and your video is very helpful - thank you
Thank you so much for teaching these lessons. I wouldn't have gotten serious about playing if it wasn't for them.
I'm glad to hear it! Music is the best!

Excellent lesson. This is a great old tune. Your teaching technique is perfect. It makes it easy to learn by ear.

Big respect for your journey, friend. And thank you.

Looks and sounds awesome.
Toujours le meilleur pour l'apprentissage de cette diabolique mandoline irlandaise! Bravo !
It is really helpful the way you break the tune up into sections for learning. It would make it even easier for me to play along with you if at the start of each section you reminded me which finger and which string we start on.
Without these excellent lessons I think my mando playing would have ground to a halt.Cheers from an old guitar picker from the City of Liverpool UK.
Thanks for the helpful lesson!
Great job!
Another fine tutorial. I have watched a lot of different folks on here, but you my friend make it really easy for me. I appreciate you taking the time and breaking it down piece by piece. I'm glad I found your channel. Excellent keep it up!!

Thanks, I will keep that in mind! I appreciate the feedback.
the lessons are still great please keep up the good work.
Really sorry but for begginers you teach too fast! You need to slow down.
There are no tabs unless I just don’t see them. You shouldn’t add that there are tabs when you have to pay for them
search mandolessons.com for Irish Washerwoman and click the button below the video for a PDF. Everything is free.
