My boyfriend was in a car accident a month ago, and he had his Ps4 in his book bag and surprisingly it still works ! It's just that now it can't read games or movies. . . Which is a bummer for him , now he's playing on his ps3😭 this helps alot and I repair was charging me $230 just for the whole disc reader 💀 now all I need to do is buy the right screws and laser reader. I watched your other vids and I replaced my laser as I have the same symptoms as many other people, my PS4 still will not read any of my game discs, and it will play a brand new dvd but very choppy with playback as if is scratched. It will play one of ny games but that is only if i turn the PS4 upside down. Your thoughts...? I might just mail it to you you to see what wrong with it.

Don't know if you will see this comment but it is worth a shot. My power went out the other day for a bit while i was playing and when the power came back on my PS4 would not read game disks or blue rays but would still read dvds. Have you heard of this before and is there a fix? Thanks!!

It uses another laser for your dvds and bluray movies. If your ps4 pro doesnt read your ps4 games even after trying vertically stand and all other methods. Then it's safe to say your ps4 game read laser is dead. It doesn't mean that the dvd/bluray read laser is dead tho, that one can still work very well. You can test it easily by inserting different dvds and bluray movies
I have a different unit. But my motor that spins the disk is not turning at all when a disk is inserted. Is that why it’s not recognizing the inserted disk? It started to act up after inserting a new blu ray. And now none of my disks I have seem to work. Cleaning the laser lenses did not seem to help at all. The disk motor sputtered at one point. Now it just does nothing.
Was trying to put together the disc drive after fully disassembling it for cleaning. Didn't get back to putting it together for while so I was confused til a few pauses & glances helped guide me back. Once again, appreciate the help Steve even though it wasn't your true intention 😂👌🏾💯👏🏾

If you have a ps4 slim yours can have the Kem 490AAA or Kem 496AA. The 490 have a metal deck and single eye (theres another laser that has a similar metal deck but its a double eye) while the 496 have a black plastic deck and a single eye. Mine have 490 CUH 2006a
My PS4 Pro is having a super hard time installing some disc games. I hear the disc revving up and down in a loop and the install speed slows to a crawl or will just give up saying an error occurred. I just now replaced the laser (using your fantastic guide) and it didn't have an effect. Any ideas what it could be? I'm almost ready to buy a new one or go download only...
That's usually because the laser is knocked off course causing the lens to rub up against the disc and scratch it. At least that's what always happened with my PS2 slim
I know I'm late to the party, I have a ps4 here that will take the disc, and as i watch the laser, it will flash blue then red and lift the disc drop it back down and then flash again. Finally at the end it will say unrecognizable disc. Is this a bad laser? I've tried another drive, not sure if its a working one, swapped drive boards and i still get the same result. I'm all out of ideas. Any advice for a n00b?
I have took my ps4 apart and checked the rollers that seem in working order took them out and put them back in to be sure got rid of all the dust and it still wont read the disc. I dont understand that, I done as you said in your disc drive video and it still ain't reading.
I just randomly decided to take my PS4 Pro apart out of the blue, never taking anything of this sort apart before, and hoped for the best. Can tell you that it's so, sooooooo damn easy to take apart and reassemble so long as you have that weird shaped screwdriver.

So my PS4 Pro makes a clicking sound, tries twice to read the disc and then gives me an unrecognised disc error. However if I tap on the top 2-3 times as its starting to spin up it successfully reads the disc. I sent it in for repair at a reputable console repair place and they apparently tied multiple disc drives and lasers. It was fixed for a time but has now returned. I have no idea what's going on.

So I have a PS4, that I bought used. Have found that we can only play downloaded games on, which isn’t good, cause I’m not buying my boys their games again for the ones they have disks for. Well found that a dime had been shoved in the optical drive, and it knocked the rollers off. We fixed those and it will now take discks but we get unrecognized disk. I replaced the laser lens and we’re still getting that message, only now it won’t even eject the disk. Any other suggestions as to what this could be? Could the dime that was shoved into it have messed up the whole drive?
I get that message when i am in the game menu or when im in a game but it says look if the disk is damaged or dirty but the disc is new do you maybey know what the problen is?
Is anyone having a problem with the disc not even wanting to go in? Like it makes no noise you practically have to force it in and when it goes in it won't get read and won't eject
I had this problem literally what you need to do is shake the ps4 for a few minutes personally I had my ps4 in the car and all the bumps on the road knocked something back in place and it started working again when I got home.
My PS4 PRO can play dvds, and blu ray movies, but not PS4 disc games. Itll make an abnormal disc drive noise when it tries to read the discs. And Ill have an unsupported disc error icon on my screen. I've rebuilt the data base, and reinstalled the firmware, itll solve my problem but temporarily. Although, there's a another temporary solution, I gotta tap above the disc drive when I insert the disc for it to work.... very strange. What could be the problem? It plays movies but not disc games (I can play downloaded games perfectly fine). Thank you for reading :)
glad that i buy digital and physical copies for all my games i tryed to play the last of us disc version it didnt work so i used the digital version it works fine
Dang this sucks, I wasted a whole day booting up my PS4 with my disk drive trying to solve this problem, I rebuilt the database, updated the PlayStation and I unfortunately can’t afford one of these right now
Great video. I recently bought a used ps4 pro and it will accept and return the disc without any weird noises but when the disc starts spinning it makes a clicking noise and won't read the disc. Any suggestions?
@@eduardomuniz5836 had a new drive put in and the noise stops but still is not working. Going to take it to another place , was told now it maybe a software issue now.
@@RedLightJhunkie my ps4 pro, takes the disc and tries to read it, like 3 times, it makes a noise as if it was going to take it out but it does not, it tries to read it, it is heard that it spins for 2 seconds and stops and shows me an unrecognized disc, that same Lens I put it in a ps4 slim and it works, so the problem is in the pro console, it may be the flex cable, or a fuse on the board that does not allow to read it, I already reinstalled the software and it was not solved.

When I took our PS4 gen 1 apart, and pulled out the disc drive, I had a cog with a spring on it fall out. Can you tell me where that goes?

Usually, they just wear out. If you smoke, that can damage them as well.

If it still reads some disks try the update method found in other videos. You start the ps4 in safe mode asked update system software

yeah pcb boar is married to the motherboard, if your disc drive is not working then you need to replace pcb board from old laser to new

However if I tap on the top 2-3 times as its starting to spin up it successfully reads the disc. I sent it in for repair at a reputable console repair place and they apparently tied multiple disc drives and lasers. It was fixed for a time but has now returned. I have no idea what's going on.
my ps4 reads all games but one which Is modern warfare. the disk is cleaner than the others but it keeps on saying unrecognized disk when I insert the disk

I have a question, this might be a dumb but I don’t mess with consoles we’ll I have both the old consoles of the PS4 and Xbox one and my PS4 hasn’t been reading discs and I was wondering what if I use the Xbox one laser disc on the PS4 if that even works but before I do anything that’s why I’m asking I don’t want to mess anything up
No there are three models of lasers of the ps4 if you want to know which one is yours u can look on your laser
Or search the ps4 model you have and buy the 1 compatible with your model

My ps4 does not make a laser sound when I put in siege but every other disc works fine
So I have a PS4, that I bought used. Have found that we can only play downloaded games on, which isn’t good, cause I’m not buying my boys their games again for the ones they have disks for. Well found that a dime had been shoved in the optical drive, and it knocked the rollers off. We fixed those and it will now take discks but we get unrecognized disk. I replaced the laser lens and we’re still getting that message, only now it won’t even eject the disk. Any other suggestions as to what this could be? Could the dime that was shoved into it have messed up the whole drive?
I get that message when i am in the game menu or when im in a game but it says look if the disk is damaged or dirty but the disc is new do you maybey know what the problen is?
My question is why does it stop working In the first place?

Is anyone having a problem with the disc not even wanting to go in? Like it makes no noise you practically have to force it in and when it goes in it won't get read and won't eject
I had this problem literally what you need to do is shake the ps4 for a few minutes personally I had my ps4 in the car and all the bumps on the road knocked something back in place and it started working again when I got home.
My PS4 PRO can play dvds, and blu ray movies, but not PS4 disc games. Itll make an abnormal disc drive noise when it tries to read the discs. And Ill have an unsupported disc error icon on my screen. I've rebuilt the data base, and reinstalled the firmware, itll solve my problem but temporarily. Although, there's a another temporary solution, I gotta tap above the disc drive when I insert the disc for it to work.... very strange. What could be the problem? It plays movies but not disc games (I can play downloaded games perfectly fine). Thank you for reading :)

glad that i buy digital and physical copies for all my games i tryed to play the last of us disc version it didnt work so i used the digital version it works fine
my other games work, i just bought ff7 and its not reading

Dang this sucks, I wasted a whole day booting up my PS4 with my disk drive trying to solve this problem, I rebuilt the database, updated the PlayStation and I unfortunately can’t afford one of these right now

Great video. I recently bought a used ps4 pro and it will accept and return the disc without any weird noises but when the disc starts spinning it makes a clicking noise and won't read the disc. Any suggestions?

@@eduardomuniz5836 had a new drive put in and the noise stops but still is not working. Going to take it to another place , was told now it maybe a software issue now.
@@RedLightJhunkie my ps4 pro, takes the disc and tries to read it, like 3 times, it makes a noise as if it was going to take it out but it does not, it tries to read it, it is heard that it spins for 2 seconds and stops and shows me an unrecognized disc, that same Lens I put it in a ps4 slim and it works, so the problem is in the pro console, it may be the flex cable, or a fuse on the board that does not allow to read it, I already reinstalled the software and it was not solved.

i have reinstalled the games thats its doing it to doesnt fix it nor does the console initialization
