This was one of the most wholesome videos I've seen all year so far. It's one thing to go and experience something like that but it's a whole different level to experience it with people who are so into it and excitable and happy. That's the aspect that truly hit me. I strive to see a society that's more like that.
I love seeing people enjoy my backyard as much as they do, I kind of take it for granted that I see emus & Roos almost weekly, I live on the river Murray only an hour upstream from Renmark just over the boarder in the Victorian rural city called Mildura. So proud to have you visit our country.
It’s always fantastic to meet people with unique and different interests. The bird watchers’ energy and excitement rubs off on you and can’t help but feel happy.
I came to DownieLive for the train trips. I see a video like this in my notifications and I'm like "a river safari in Australia? not really interested". And then I watch it and I'm ALWAYS like "wow, that was really cool". Never disappointed when a Downie video shows up. Thanks.
Awesome video!! Its so nice to see you exploring and appreciating our beautiful home. The Mighty Murray is awesome, not just for its scenery but for the part the river played in settling the interior of the eastern side of the country, and one of my favourite ways to explore it is by houseboat. Cant recommend this sort of experience highly enough, its such a peaceful way to see incredible stretches of Australia, whether its in the largest and most important river in the country.......or just slowly drifting down the much smaller rivers and estuarys of WA's south west. Cant wait to see what you get up to next week. I hope Nicole travels with you again, its always lovely to see her.
Its annoying TH-cam doesn't recommend your videos. I've watched ever single one for the past few years yet I still have to search for it everytime. Loving your videos Mike
This looks like so much fun. I'd lover to go there. My nephew was somewhere in Australia working and just returned home. I haven't seen or talked to him yet. I how he took lots of pictures. Thank you for taking us along.❤❤❤
After grad McGill in 1986, I treated myself to a long roadtrip! Having drove a Bongo van across the Nullarbor (no golf back then), I was surprised you didn’t see any roos until about Norseman? I couldn’t get AWAY from the buggers! Driving from Adelaide to Penong, sleeping in the van each night, the flies that surround a mob of greys would suddenly fill the van as a curious joey, or an angry boomer would actually KNOCK on the side! Of course this wicked alarm clock action took place just before sunrise… which explains why you didn’t see ‘em, mate! Fair dinkum 🇨🇦 🇦🇺
Mike! I don't know how you find these places, but it was a fantastic excursion that Nicole & yourself pulled off! I really enjoyed your part 2 of your vacation in Australia. It was very neat to see that Australian wildlife! Looking forward to watching your part 3!
Wouldn't call Renmark the Outback Mike. That's more north of South Australia but never the less a safari was great. Reminding me of the times we would go camping on the river during the holidays. So by your reply and being in S.A. you and Nicole going on the Ghan to Darwin. Now that's the outback and your crocs.🇦🇺🪃🦘. Might just wait for Sunday!!
Ah, Anthony, if you watch the most recent video, you'll notice we are not in the same area, and not on the Ghan. We're on a slightly different adventure ;)
Loved this one, too! Glad to see Nicole got to enjoy it. The older I get, the more I enjoy birdwatching. They present a challenge quite different from the bigger animals, and you can enjoy it everywhere - even in your own backyard!
When I was in Australia, I was in Canberra, and the kangaroos would just hop down the street (it did help I stayed with YWAM and they were down the street from a preserve). And the magpies were great to listen to, especially in the mornings and evenings
I love this, I'm from Adelaide, and most tourists from overseas head to the eastern states, so seeing someone who I have followed for a while on here explore apart of my hometown backyard makes me very happy
I’m disappointed that you went right past our place and didn’t drop in for a good old Aussie BBQ. 😔🤣❤️ We have kangas, goannas, emus complete with daddy daycare, etc on the farm. Next time you come to SA you will have to come visit.
My husband and I were in Australia in November and already want to return... and now there's yet another area to explore. Jealous that you saw a koala in the wild. Held one 3 times and petted them 2 other times but never saw one in the wild. Love your videos!
I love Australia me and my wife did a Couple of contikis for 50 days all over the place :) i fell in love forever. But what you're showing here and with the energy you're presenting it makes me wanna go back and try a river safari. I've been in a pretty crappy mood past few weeks seeing this vid really made me feel a bit more optimistic, Thank you!
Seeing you in Aus is brilliant. I did have a chuckle every time you said “river Murray” I hope you make it to the NT to see some crocs in the river! So many amazing things to see in Aus. I loved seeing how excited you all were by things we just ‘see’ all the time…:
I went on a river tour like that one, but it was in the Danube delta, in Romania. We got on a hotel boat, towed by a tug, slept and ate in it, moored in different places each day. Then we went out each day on a smaller boat through the channels between the reeds, seing birds, frogs and floating islands. We even went to a wood that had grown up on a sandbank from seeds dropped by birds. It was a local company, Ibis Tours, so most the passengers were Romanian, but the guide explained in both Romanian and English.
I'm so glad you got a chance to visit our beautiful country. My wife and I have been watching your travels for years and inspired us to one day travel to North America and cross the continent by rail!
What a cool tour! I can kind of identify with Lawrence's enthusiasm about lifers even if I'm not a hardcore birder. Every time I see a bird I've never seen before in my garden, I get really excited! And the starry night and the moon really impressed me too. I know there's a dark-sky park in the far north of my densely populated country, I should try to stay the night there when there's a good chance of clear skies!
The mighty Murray. You were lucky seeing a Goanna and very lucky if you didn't spot a Joe Blake (snake). The term never never I haven't heard in years. Thank you so much Mike for sharing a part of Australia that most people don't get to see.
The term "never-never" to me refers to the Northern Territory due the autobiographical novel by Jennie Gunn "We of the Never Never" based on Elsey Station at Mataranka. Also the NT Tourism used the term in their advertising back in the '80s " you'll never never know if you never never go", not sure if they still use it.
I'm so happy you are shoosing some things to do in Australia that may not be the first thing people think of when they come here. It showcases just how bit and diverse Australia is, no different to Canada or the USA in that regard. You've seen a lot of emus to! I see a lot of eastern grey kangaroos, often from my kitchen window and a few species of cockatoo probably every day, but thet red Kangaroo was amazing!
Appreciate your travels, downie! Me and the wife want to experience Australia one day. Were going to on our 10th anniversary and didn't get to but we will here soon. Thank you for exploring and inspiring
Great video, thank you for sharing your adventures with us, leaves me longing to travel again. Great to see Nicole was able to join you, I was curious how she's been. Glad you both had an amazing time, looking forward to your next video 😊.
This looks like the best wildlife or bird watching tour I've ever seen outside of Africa, and I've seen a LOT of travel videos over the years! Thanks for sharing.
I traveled to Australia in 2004 and explored Sydney up through Queensland all the way to Cooktown by motorcoach including 4 days on a small ship in the Barrier Islands. So I really am enjoying your exploring around Adelaide. Really enjoyed this safari on the river. BTW this 82 year old Tennessean is coming to Vancouver for 4 days first of May. Why? to eat a the Old Spaghetti Factory in Gastown.
I have to say I love your video's and the latest, I live in Adelaide South Australia, but down the southern of SA, if you ever come south like to McLaren Vale winery area, would love to say hello, this Vvlog starts in Renmark lovely place, I am just about to watch it.Wow great Vvlog guys, But you haven't seen a Wombat, please make sure you see one before you leave australian soil, and a Tasmanian Devil..... see you next week.
Been to AU many times, but it's always Sydney (where you can see many of the wildlife pictured here at the zoo) or visit my friends on the Sunshine Coast. I retired a bit earlier than expected, so I'll never be able to afford such a trip as this! But who knows how long we'll live and it's better to have more adventures than pricy tours. I just hope I don't live into my 90's and regret the early retirement! LOL Was great seeing Australians enjoying their own country! Great video.
Thank you for your great video! We are city folk & really need to get out more into the ‘local’ natural surroundings. We travelled to Antartica just last year but still have not explored the outback. Thank you for the inspiration & cheers from Melbourne 🍷!
went camping at blanchetown on the murray river and went kayaking there, most properties were pretty wrecked because of the floods, but it was peaceful.
Enjoyed this so much!😊 Spent a couple of weeks in Sydney and up in the rainforest in Queensland around Cairns in 2003 and loved every minute! Haven't been back since and am enjoying seeing a different part of this amazing country. Thanks so much for another great tour!! Can't wait for the next one! High five from California.
Wow was not expecting an outback adventure at all this was so awesome! Great video! Top notch production as always.. Finally seeing that kangaroo sprinting at full speed truly was a glorious sight. lol Was cool to learn about these people and their hobby, I really admire their respect and love for nature. Thanks for bringing us along, always a pleasure bro. Can’t wait for the next episode!❤
I literally teared up when the kangaroos made their appearance. I was so happy for you. This video contentwas one of your bests!! And it was lovely to have Nicole in this one.
Thanks for sharing some of Australia's amazing countryside that many of us will never get to see in person. It looks like you got to be a good twicher. It looks like you guys had a great time.
This is the kind of content TH-cam needs more of - humble, kind, interesting people enjoying the best our planet has to offer together. Excellent vlog.
It looked like you and Nicole had a great time cruising some of South Australia and some of Victoria on the River Murray. It's the only decent river that exists in Australia. I'm glad you guys had a great group and it looked like you really enjoyed yourselves. Thanks for choosing to do some interesting things in Australia. I love your channel Mike. You saw a native Coockoo???? A parasite bird???!!! I'd read they existed but - wow!!!!! The birdwatchers would have totally lost their minds and lost their shit seeing one of those.
Cockatoo is the proper name, of once large family of Australian parrots, there are lots through Murraylands, Rosella's are a common Parrot too, and Australia has many, I would say Millions, of both native and pet bred budgerigars too. I hop you loved it and I am looking forward to your Aussie Trains. Still hoping for a travels by trains season in Australia. Paused at 2:15 makes you look like you just swallowed a fly, a normal summer time Australian tradition. Also so Wish I knew you were coming but so glad, as an South Australian resident, that SA was one of the first places you and Nicole got to visit here.
Hello Mike & Nicolle. Hope you have a great trip. I’m from S Wales UK. I’ve made a few trips to Australia, but I haven’t been on a river break. One great trip I did was to take the Indian Pacific from Perth to Adelaide, then the Ghan to Alice Springs. From there we flew to Cairns and took the Kurunda line. After a few days we took the train from Cairns to Brisbane. Great sleeper trains but expensive. I was on a Package holiday that took 3 weeks. Mike, there was an advert on UK TV for a beer on a river bank like you were by. One Ozzie said, are there any crocodiles in there mate? The reply was no, the sharks eat them.
Wow, thank you for sharing this adventure with us. It's amazing to see those animals and birds in their natural habitat. Thank you, this is an awesome video. 👍❤👍❤
Love this excursion we got to join you on.... Birders go birding, there is no 'watch' involved lol, glad to see you starting to get hooked on the hobby. Great content. As usual
Mike and the DownieLive channel is in the land DOWN UNDER where the land and people are beautiful, rugged, extreme and almost every thing that walks, crawls and swims is out to get you! lol!
Another good one, Mike! As an avid birdwatcher I really enjoyed watching this video. I am going to be in Sydney in April, wish I had time for this river tour. If you ever get the urge to birdwatch I can bring you out to the wildlife sanctuary in Ladner.😊
What a magnificent cruise. In case the kookaburra looked familiar, it's a cousin of the kingfishers that are native to British Columbia. The delightful music from birds at one point may have been (or not) the song of the Australian Magpie -which is not a relative of the magpie found in North America or Europe. Common names are confusing,
Oh man! This is awesome - what a cool safari! I love Australia, but most of my time there was as a kid, and on the east coast - all this outback stuff is great!
Next you need to go to New Zealand! I'm a New Zealand citizen by birth but I've never been but my wife and I are thinking of moving there when I retire. It looks like BC but more beautiful!
I too came to Downie live for the train travel but have enjoyed all the other activities . Bird watching not for me but loved this video and the enthusiasm from the professional bird watchers😊
This was one of the most wholesome videos I've seen all year so far. It's one thing to go and experience something like that but it's a whole different level to experience it with people who are so into it and excitable and happy. That's the aspect that truly hit me. So proud to have you visit our country.
Nice! I'm from Echuca!!
Man I wouldn't want to live in Mildura after the death of Channel 10 over there (best channel in Australia objectively)
It’s always fantastic to meet people with unique and different interests. The bird watchers’ energy and excitement rubs off on you and can’t help but feel happy.
Couldn't agree more!
I enjoy seeing you and Nicole enjoying traveling together
We travelled Australia in 2017, beautiful country. This safari looks wonderful , thanks for sharing. ❤🇨🇦
I came to DownieLive for the train trips. I see a video like this in my notifications and I'm like "a river safari in Australia? not really interested". And then I watch it and I'm ALWAYS like "wow, that was really cool". Never disappointed when a Downie video shows up. Thanks.

I love when travel leaves you with new interests and with some new friends. Im loving this Australian journey!
"I dont know where im going next, but I know I want you there with me" always my favorite line from you.
Mine as well ❤
Same here ❤
Amazing
LOL @ Nicole “ I don’t know that you’ve seen 5 sunrises”
Awesome video, Mike. Terrific way for everyone to witness Australian wild life.
"Are there any spiders out here?" "Shitloads!"...LOL.
I grew up there nice to see people excited about our wild life we tend to take it for granted great to see you highlight our country
Its annoying TH-cam doesn't recommend your videos. I've watched ever single one for the past few years yet I still have to search for it everytime. Loving your videos Mike
I got lucky! TH-cam recommended me his channel! That's how I discovered him. He's awesome!😊
Subscribe to Mike's channel and you will never ever miss one.
Yeah same here and it's supposed to alert me and today I realized I've missed like a dozen videos.
Another great video glad Nicole got to share this trip with you
Love that guy saw his Regent parrot. Seemed really special for him😊
Awesome video Mike. Stoked your enjoying the beauty of the outback.
Now THAT is how to "leave no trace". Very cool Mike and Nicole!! Until next week...
So glad you have come to Australia guys!

It’s always fun to have Nicole come along ☺️
Part 3 is a similar adventure.
@@DownieLive- Mike, how well has Australia recovered from their massive fires?
Glad you enjoyed your time in my home country Mike. I am sure there will be further episodes to come in the series!
Brilliant example of what my State has to offer. Thanks Mike. PS. Not really “the outback” but beautiful nonetheless.
Wouldn't call Renmark the Outback Mike. That's more north of South Australia but never the less a safari was great. Reminding me of the times we would go camping on the river during the holidays. Mike, I really enjoy your train videos, but ones like this are so cool and interesting. Keep up the good work and maybe you can hop on the Ghan.
When I was in Australia, I was in Canberra, and the kangaroos would just hop down the street (it did help I stayed with YWAM and they were down the street from a preserve). And the magpies were great to listen to, especially in the mornings and evenings

Not full dams except up at lake Hume. They are river locks. They can take the barrier out at Mildura when they had floods.
I’m disappointed that you went right past our place and didn’t drop in for a good old Aussie BBQ. 😔🤣❤️ We have kangas, goannas, emus complete with daddy daycare, etc on the farm. Next time you come to SA you will have to come visit.

Fantastic Video!! What nice people the "Twitcher's" are. So glad you got them on video!
And NO FLIES like your Golf Outing!
Oh I loved that one. So cool and such a great group to spend your time with.
I love Lawrence. We must treasure him.
You're in Australia - WOW!
I'm so happy you are shoosing some things to do in Australia that may not be the first thing people think of when they come here. I agree! They are big impressive animals!
Omg, Lawrence is great! 😂 Amazing video as always, Mike!
Appreciate your travels, downie! Me and the wife want to experience Australia one day. Were going to on our 10th anniversary and didn't get to but we will here soon. Thank you for exploring and inspiring
Wonderful video Mike thanks for showing us the different beautiful parts of the world makes me wanna travel a lot more. 🌏🌎🌍

great to see your aussie adventure continue!! My town actually appears on the Murray-Darling Basin map and we have houseboats too!!
Very cool!

What age do you like your spaghetti factories? Old. Definitely old.
Gotta try to catch a Canucks game while you're there the energy is amazing
Great year for Vancouver this year as well they did a restructure and are on fire
Get the brown butter and mizithra cheese pasta as one of your dishes!
That was so cool to watch you guys checking off your lists of what kind of Australian wildlife that you saw.
Love the videos Mike! It's fun to live vicariously through you and your friends.

Wonderful episode !! Bird watching can be contagious lol very cool that the tours are sustainable .. love that !
WOW! Just WOWWWW! I always consider the best half of any trip are the incredible people you meet!
We agree!
Thank you for your great video! We are city folk & really need to get out more into the ‘local’ natural surroundings. We travelled to Antartica just last year but still have not explored the outback. Thank you for the inspiration & cheers from Melbourne 🍷!
Loving your Australian trip. Great choice and what nice people. So nice to see Nicole!! She didn't want to go golfing with you!! Smart girl 🤩
So true!
went camping at blanchetown on the murray river and went kayaking there, most properties were pretty wrecked because of the floods, but it was peaceful.
“Easily the top 5 sunrises I’ve ever seen. That’s because you’ve never seen 5 sunrises”. Story of my life lol 😂
Just what I needed to see. One of my favorite places.
Your video has me hankering for a third trip down under.
Cheers, mate!
Have fun!
This video is amazing loving the Australia series!
Birding is the best! I started during Covid when i couldn’t travel. The more time you spend in nature the more you see.
Totally agree!
Enjoyed this so much!😊 Spent a couple of weeks in Sydney and up in the rainforest in Queensland around Cairns in 2003 and loved every minute! Next you need to go to New Zealand! I'm a New Zealand citizen by birth but I've never been but my wife and I are thinking of moving there when I retire. It looks like BC but more beautiful!
Great video Mike! Glad to see Nicole back in the videos as well.
I too came to Downie live for the train travel but have enjoyed all the other activities . Bird watching not for me but loved this video and the enthusiasm from the professional bird watchers😊
What a cool way to see the outback...looks like you and Nicole had a great time
Well add this to my bucket list. That looked like such a once-in-a-lifetime treat!!!
I love that you visited my city and state! Adelaide is so overlooked
Love the Murray river. granted, I was exploring it in a tinny with a 2hp motor not a luxury apartment, but that's besides the point.
What an awesome adventure. I would love to take that one myself. Always wanted to make it to Australia.
What a lovely group of people to experience the outback with! ❤
I love those river safari . Just got remember today on facebook of the one i did in botswana all the elephant bathing on the side and playing.
