  • A severe drought in southern Africa has endangered the lives of millions, and also led to prolonged electricity outages. Zambia is no different, with power cuts in the capital Lusaka leaving businesses and livelihoods in the dark.

Thank you. Its hard to see that in 2024 many parts of great Africa are still have to go through this.

MORE THAN 20 hours per day now.Sometimes we go days without power from Zesco. Inverters, gensets, are the necessity today. Too expensive for most.

The problem here is lack of infrastructure. Africans must now focus on becoming architects, engineers, town planners and private police officers like the "hawks" to crack down on corruption and allocate the funds in appropriate departments. We need to build Africa on our own it is clear that the Europeans won't build Africa for us we are Bantu people whether we like it or not.
The drought in Zambia is due to poor infrastructure the Zambian government must encourage Zambians to become architects and engineers otherwise nothing will change. Zambians cannot remain the same in 2025 Zambia must innovate at least to a South African level otherwise it is bye bye Zambia.

There are young people in Zambia who have studied architecture and engineering. The problem is they go abroad for opportunities. Incentives should be put in place to encourage and support them to stay

@@britjj5126 The Zambian government must operate like the South African government. The South African government offers grants and funding to architecture and engineering firms and every other business that exists in South Africa but in order for that industry to be given those grants the business owner needs to be a South African citizen so Zambia should do the same for their citizens.

It not about schooling , they are enough people trained in those careers but no opportunities, I know plenty who studied in china others SouthAfrica and even Israel , guess what they all went back to the countries they studied in and they are now living comfortably. Personally it's all comes down to poor leadership, leaders who don't listen to their pipo or technocrats, they were busy exporting to neighbors and still are yet the economy is on life support.

That's how critical electricity is! Ethiopian Dam will have a huge impact on changing the country trajectory towards development.... without affecting Egypt's reliability on the river!

Our current president while in opposition had solutions but when he became a president he trivialised early signs of disaster and now poor planning and contingency has exposed his leadership as head of government. He gave practical examples of countries such UAE and yet today after three years it's just politics as usual.

The very low levels at the Kariba dam caused by a severe drought has caused this. It is not an HH crisis. It is crisis caused by not investing in alternative sources of energy for a very long time.

@everingtonmbuyisa8189 Exactly, low water levels caused by a drought means ZESCO can't produce at full capacity, this has nothing to do with the presidency. If anything, we should be on our knees praying for rain and setting up coal power plants to utilize the coal that is out natural resource.
