My personal favourite jazz album is a bit of an odd choice. It's We Want Miles by Miles Davis.
It's a live album from the early 80s that just blows me away. If you haven't listened to it I absolutely recommend Jean Pierre (make sure it's the full 10 minute version not the 3 minute one).
Some of my other favourites stem more into jazz fusion but.
In A Silent Way - Miles Davis
    Bitches Brew - Miles Davis
From Nothingness To Eternity - Mahavishnu Orchestra
And here's two that I don't know if they count.
Mingus - Joni Mitchell (it's mostly comprised of her singing over music given to her by Mingus himself)
The Next Twentieth Century - Father John Misty (it's like 20's big band jazz with vocals, except the last song, which is my favourite as it's most like his normal material, but it is a very good album)

My favorite jazz transcends jazz, the spiritual stuff Trane epitomizes, Albert Ayler is SUPER slept on 😴
I find myself having a different opinion
THIS list is so MUSICAL, you have a MUSICAL sense of jazz
But what I love in jazz is the transcendence of Trane, Ayler, Pharoah, Ornette Coleman, Mingus, Dolphy, Collier, even funnily Sun Ra
But I love the sheer musicianship of thelonius and Marc Ribot, Miles, Jaco, Bill Evans, Parker, Wes

People who dont play an instrument aren’t going to like Coltrane let’s be real or “bebop” for that matter. They’ll listen to swing. But listening to abunch dudes just fill it up isn’t that attractive for listeners. You might like it as a musical exercise. But that’s about it.

@@MrSteviethegreat I like Metheny, but the only out stuff I can think of from Pat is Zero Tolerance, and his participation on Sign of Four with Derek Bailey. Song X… maybe. That’s probably less than 10% of Pat’s output.
Have to be honest, I don’t think Zero Tolerance is a very good album. A bit indulgent. I like free improv but this is disappointing. It always struck me as being like when classical musicians decide to ‘learn/play some jazz’. Pat playing with Derek Bailey didn’t really work. (Personal Opinion).
He is a great artist though. I like a lot of his music. I feel if he wrote a memoir (not an autobiography) about his life as a guitarist/musician it would be fascinating. It would also be long.
I’ve read some terrible bios/memoirs - by jazz artists - but I think his would be fascinating.
