Squeaky dryer caused me to start researching solutions. Husband wanted me to buy a new dryer. No way, I love my current model Speed Queen. Found this very helpful detailed video. When he says be very careful of the door switch wires, trust me BE CAREFUL. Yep, we weren't careful and the switch fell apart. Even though my husband is an electrician, there was no way to put it back together. Bought new switch and this kit. Very easy installation and solved the issue.

I bought one of the repair kits and followed the video for my 2017 speed queen dryer. Followed the video and it was really easy to replace both rollers and the idler pulley.
I used 3 in 1 oil to lube the roller axles- 1 drop.
Also what he doesn’t show is the amount of lint in the dryer- I used a wet dry vac with dust bag to clean out the interior and I spent probably 30 min getting all the lint off the parts and motor.
Great video- no surprises and dryer went back together smoothly.
Total time to repair was around 2 1/2 hours. The original roller must have been going bad for a while because dryer is super quiet now.

Fixed mine today after watching this video and ordering the parts from this store. Had to wait for delivery as I'm not in the Cleveland area, but my brother is and I'll be recommending them based off the video alone! Took about an hour total, but I spent a lot of time cleaning as well. As far as the tool to get the bracket off from the video, I used very small needle nose pliers. Probably would have been easier with the tool he recommends, but the pliers worked fine.

Great video/tutorial, kit, and detail. The only thing I would add is for folks to be aware of the sharp edge around the bulkhead. When removing the wires from the lamp, I slipped and ran my hand across the edge and found out that it is quite sharp. Otherwise, great info, and I had great results. Thanks for putting the kit together!

Perfect tutorial! Just successfully replaced the guide wheels, tensioner wheel, shafts, belt, and front guide pads with Loraine Furniture kit. Absolutely no problems. If not for the extended time thoroughly cleaning the inside, this would be literally a 30min project. Thank you for posting this video!

Thank you for the very helpful video and for your outstanding service. I ordered a SQ rebuild kit from you and my dryer is working better than new roughly 72 hours after ordering on a Saturday afternoon. Used full synthetic oil on the roller axles and the idler pulley shaft (just a smear on my finger's worth). It is quieter than new now. When the machine was new it needed two separate roller replacements within six months. It has been a great dryer and has gone ten trouble free years until recently it started squealing again. The axles were shot so I think anything like oil might help with axle wear. The belt still looked like new as did the drum guides in front, but I agree the kit is worth the money as I don't want to get inside the machine for at least another ten years.

Followed your instructions to the wire. Everything worked great! One of the rollers didn't have the front washer. So it may have led to premature failure. But for 9 years of operation, I'm not too mad about it. Replaced everything since I had the dryer torn down. Run's smooth a silk tonight. Thanks A million.

Excellent tutorial! I purchased the kit from Lorain Furniture, it came super quick. Bonus points for picking up the phone to answer a quick question about shipping.
Even though I quickly located the issue with a bad roller, I decided it would be best to replace all worn parts that were included in the kit. Definitely buy the retaining ring pliers. You could probably get by without it, but it makes life easier.
The most difficult parts of the fix was getting the belt on (had to have my wife lift the drum), and also putting it back together. Some parts got misaligned, and had to play with it a bit. Overall not too bad.
10/10 video. Dryer is running SMOOTH.

You’re a lifesaver, Thank You! I just gave my dryer a few more years of service thanks to the instructions and link on this video. At first I thought that the parts were a little pricey but in reality the price is for original quality on the parts, all of them fits and works nice and smooth. Having all the parts needed in one package helps a lot to save time and money, otherwise you’d have to find one by one of the parts and probably when you get ready to work on the dryer you’d realize that you forgot some little washer or the belt won’t fit, save your self some headache.

Convenient timing. We have a late nineties Amana dryer that was a Speed Queen rebranded for them when Raytheon owned both companies, before spinning off the division to Alliance. It just started squeaking yesterday and it's getting worse, will have to pull the front panel off and see if going back that far the parts are still the same or not, but I would be frankly astounded if they weren't.

Make sure you reuse or replace wavey washer on the rear of the rollers (between roller and support) to reduce play/noise. Suggest ordering three wavey washers when ordering parts as these are hard to find in field, two for the two drum rollers and one for the belt tensioner. Great instructions!

Thanks! This was so helpful! The replacement spindles have a deeper screwdriver slot, which is helpful. I had to use piece of flat stock to get the stock spindles off as my screwdriver kept slipping. Also mounting the belt to the idler and motor is easy if you reach in on either side of the motor with your left and right hands.

I have a really old Speed Queen. A BE20 model.
Do you know if the blower housing bushing needs lubricant. It was ceased up but a little Kleen-flo 661 PTEE lubricant cleaned the shaft and bushing up. Now I want to put it back together and am wondering if I need high temp lube, no lube or if the 661 will work.
I have to form a seal for the blower housing to the bulkhead and was going to use window weatherstripping but was wondering about the high temp thing again.

My newer SQ dryer top comes off differently. The control panel stays on, and the rest of the top panel is secured by two screws in the back. Then push the top panel towards the back and it will come off. The drum can barely be removed by lifting the back slightly and pulling out the front, under the control panel. I had ordered the kit and all the parts look good and like they would work, but it turned out I just needed to clean the lint out of the fan. The fan was completely full and probably off balance. The outlet duct also had a lot of lint. I am holding on to the kit for when it is eventually needed.

I followed the directions and I did find one wheel that barely turned.
I think its going to work better but I still have a cranky start up noise.
    Maybe the motor bearings???
This is for a commercial dryer my tenants say the cranky sound has been there for years
but recently it stopped handling full loads cause of the burnt roller wheels.
I am missing one wavy washer for one of the wheels but i dont think that would cause the cranky grindy startup noise
    whatd you think?

we moved our dryer up stairs - unfortunaltey the guy carrying the dryer dropped it on the end of the stair and the bottom right hand side is cripmed a little bit - I replaced all the rollers and guts - everything works fine - except the door is now no longer touching the switch when you shut the door.
When it's powered on, I can press the door switch with my hand and it will run fine, but I was wondering is there was any way to safely just shim the corner part of the door - it's pressing the switch, the switch function fine, but it's not pressing the switch in all the way when the door is shut, I don't really know I can get it closer messing around with the pannels due to the dryer being dropped.
If it was anything other than the dryer I'd just glue or tape something on the door so it makes deeper contact with the switch, my only concern was if that would ever fall off it could melt into clothes or possibly catch fire - I suppose something like a small dot of JB weld would work fine, any suggestions here would be greatly appreciated.
Again the switch is fully funtional, properly wired and working, but the door isn't making full contact with it because the dryer frame is slightly bent.

  • @lynn_temperxx7124
    @lynn_temperxx7124 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

Here is a way to get extralong life out of your rollers and belt deflector. Before installing new ones, I suggest soaking the bearing material in oil for a day. I've done this by taping over one side of the bearing and laying it flat on that side. Then I pour oil (not wd40, but a thicker oil than wd40) into to opening and let it sit for a day. Some bearings believe it or not, actually absorb oil. I am not an expert, so I do not know for sure that these bearings are of the sintered type. Before using this routine, my rollers would wear out very fast. I don't exactly remember how many months I got out of a set, but I do remember that the first set was replaced under warranty on my unit that was purchased in 2011. I think it was 3 years for the original and then 3 years for the first replacement installed without using this oil technique. I know the last time I installed new rollers was in 2017 (this being January 2024). They are still working fine. However, I took them out yesterday and the shafts were starting to wear so this dryer was just about to start squeaking. So I would say you can get 5 to 6 years when oiled well at installation time. I am thinking that in 5 years I should try to just oil these bearings and see if they would last indefinitely. However, getting oil back to those bearings (including the belt deflector) still on the dryer is not going to be easy.

Although this is a very good, clear video, folks need to be aware of significant differences in construction among SQ dryers. On my 40-yr-old SQ HG4509 dryer, the mounting brackets for the two drum drive pulleys are welded to the rear bulkhead -- they can't be removed. You therefore cannot remove the shaft unless you find a way to squeeze a box-end behind the bracket and struggle to work it loose. The pulleys themselves do not have the wavy washer on them: instead, they have thicker, gasket-like pad washers -- it's not clear to me that the replacements are spaced correctly for this model, but they did fit. Second, in many cases the noise you hear is unrelated to the parts in this kit -- when the drum felt seals front and/or rear give out, the thing will scrape very, very loudly. The kit doesn't include the felt seals, which actually can be difficult to find for older models. Finally, the drum glides on my model are not removable felt pads -- the front bulkhead panel has two permanent mounts that have brake-pad-gasket quality pads clamped in-between screwed-down holding clamps. The kit's pads and clamps are not compatible with this model.
