She does have some sort of experience in stand up. During her teen years, she would go do stand up where Jo Brand and Frank Skinner used to go but she quickly gave it up cause her parents wanted her to go to university instead.
I'm not sure where to call it on that one. Stand up comics need to be able to write sets and set up call backs; which panel show comics don't really have to. But as you say, both have to have great comic timing and quick wits. Either way I'd much rather watch VCM on a panel show than most stand-up comics.

Both of them are academically gifted and hence they would enjoy each others company. Furthermore, David Mitchell is one of the most interesting and funniest people alive. While, he could gain to lose a few pounds he is not ugly but instead has a distinguished look. So in my opinion both are lucky.
