    These intermediate videos are designed for players who have some experience. The songs will use full barre chords or complex rhythms. I try to present the chord shapes as they were played on the original recording. Information is provided on screen for both right and left-handed players!
    Space Oddity is a classic song that many people want to learn to play, and then get put off when they realise how many awkward chords it has. I often had trouble wrapping my head around the way this song works due to the seemingly random chords, but in the process of working on this video and watching live performances of the song, I believe I worked out the actual chord shapes David Bowie uses and the song seemed to fit into place much easier.
    Notably, the unusual (but comfortable to play) Em7 shape really works with the song. This shape is then utilised further during the guitar solos as it gets moved up the neck to create some very pretty sounds. Also, the very peculiar shape used in the G-E7 change towards the end of the song was something of a 'eureka!' moment.
    I've not found another transcription that uses these shapes (I'd love it if somebody knows of one that does). Working them out really brought the song to life for me

      It is perfect understandable!! Im right handed and got a little difficulty on that Fm chord, how do you make this double chord with the finger 1? Thank you

    • @LeftHandedGuitarist
      @LeftHandedGuitarist  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      F minor can be a tricky one. How much experience do you have with barre chords? I tried to copy the way that David Bowie played the chord, but traditionally you would lay your first finger completely across fret 1. You need to build up strength in the finger, and press your thumb against the back of the neck for extra support.
      Barre chords like, F, B, Bm and Fm are really important to learn, but people often quit when they first come across them because they seem crazy difficult. It's worth exploring and practising them.

      LeftHandedGuitarist I'm a begginer, but already know how to play a few songs, also I've been practising the bar like F and Bm, and slowly getting some result.
      I was looking for the version of how David plays the chords, because it seemed easier, and then I found your video, which was really helpful.
      I'll keep practising these bar chords, but about that Fm chord, do you simply lay the first joint of the finger 1 and press those 2 strings? Thanks

    • @LeftHandedGuitarist
      @LeftHandedGuitarist  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, in this case I have my index finger laying across the first 3 strings, but I've bent it so that it's not pressing down on string 1. You can see that sometimes I also have the finger there during the F major chord so that it's ready for when I need it.
      Don't get too frustrated with it, it will just take a bit of time :)

    Why is Fmaj7/E same shape as F? Shouldn’t you leave out the 3th finger

    • @LeftHandedGuitarist
      @LeftHandedGuitarist  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The two chords aren't the same. The open E strings are what create the new sound.
      F is 1-3-3-2-1-1
      Fmaj7/E is 0-3-3-2-1-0

    • @MRRandom975
      @MRRandom975 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LeftHandedGuitarist Oh I see, strings 1 and 6 are muted in the f chord shape you show and open in Fmaj7/E. Thanks!
