AMAZING skill!!! I bought your books when they came out years ago. As a retail nursery owner, I helped people dabble in bonsai and encouraged them to buy your books. This was pre-internet. Life got busy with family, work demands and over time I lost you. Now, 20+ years later and retired, I stumble on to your youtube site. Wow, this gentleman is great at bonsai, I kept thinking, after prolonged feasting on your site. Then I saw the video with you and your book! It's him!!! Like meeting up with an old friend! Through the years, it was you that set me on the bonsai path and what a joy it has been and still is. Though I do not strive for ultimate perfection, there is the continuing joy involved in finding a neglected plant and helping it become something of beauty. I haven't found the old books, though they are packed away as treasured for another day...when I retire... But, though they rest....I have found you the 'bringer of joy'. For that I humbly. "Thank you, so very much"!

Hello Mr. Heron & all others reading this post..i am beginner at Bonsai, having on;y Seriously begun 3 years ago..as a small child, i 'sort of' began making them at age 4 and continued them up to my teens..made random rock gardens and had a few stunted trees do very well...only pines would do well in my haphazard moss gardens though....i had nothing that i could use as pots so they had to be done & cared for in the ground, thus the multitude of all shapes of rocks......i am so Grateful for having found your channel, sir.....always felt it should be relatively easy & inexpensive...and you have shown us it is...Thank You & blessings on You & Your Family

Thank you for posting this video. People saying NO is what has always stopped me from trying bonsai. Whenever I would reach for a tree someone would say, "No, you don't want that one. It's no good for bonsai." It convinced I have no eye for bonsai. You've given me courage to try. Thank you so much.

All jokes aside. This is definitely advanced work. And a Masterpiece again. I just return from collecting many excellent future Bonsai Trees from the forest in Michigan that were in the middle, and sides of logging roads . Some getting ran over by vehicles. They were perfect, small , twisted, gracefully curved seedlings, and old stunted, dwarfed trees. I also collected moss, and interesting stones. I made My own Bonsai soil mix, tool kit, rotating stand out of an old office chair, and started My first Bonsai trees. I plan to post My progress on My channel , along with My Koi pond on My channel "Grow 4 Survival " on You tube. I really Love Bonsai Trees, and The Art of creating them. Thank You Peter, You are an Excellent Brother, and Artist. I pray that Your name, and Your art be passed on to My Great Grand Children's Children Forever as a Family tradition , May You be Loved, Respected, and Honored. Blessings to You, and Your Family.......Joshua Seven Thunders///////

I'm sure that this calling my spirit has been getting toward making a bonsai is the right one to act on next. It's not "container farming" per se, and my rheumatoid arthritis might keep getting better if I bonsai a lychee and other plants known for their beneficial health and wellness qualities. I hope the seeds I've been germinating birth a few strong planes, no matter what. I didn't see that coming until you laid it down and then I immediately recognized this method as a surgery of sorts. scaring up the length of the tree is like cutting a fresh and healthy edge of skin to 'sew' it to another side. the roots will become like the stitches that hold the "was" trunk to the ground as the foundation of the forest. Amazing!

I have always been fascinated with bonsai since I was little, I have many plants which may be considered involuntarily bonsai...meaning I have purposely neglected, yet cared for the plants since I was in high school, and I am now 40 years old and still have a few of these plants. Quite a few have been cuttings from other plants which have grown then died at the base, yet still had viable stems. One would be my many Aloe Cilarius - probably not right spelling - which I have had for at least 30 years. Many others are Jade plants, Kalanchoe, Sanseveria, and my latest projects are avocado and lavender. I don't look like someone who would be interested in horticulture, yet I believe it to be in my blood. All I'm saying is this is very satisfying to watch...another person well versed in the interest, care and love of horticulture. An added bonus is the fact that this man is a British Asian, a combination of outstanding intelligence, personality and experience. I just love the accent, it is like butter to the ears.
Thank you sir for this awesome video, and pardon my long-windedness. ;)
