It amazes me the number of dislikes and negative comments on fishing videos. If you don’t post a video that is exactly what someone else does then it must be wrong! Bullshit ego. Thank you for the video! I’m one of the “likes” just out of respect for the time it takes to make this videos. 😊🐟🐟🐟
Hey thank you for taking time to watch and comment...One of the great things about fishing is that there are a lot of different ways to be successful. I've always thought that folks that have their entire ego and self worth tied to their fishing success don't have much depth...Fishing is suppose to be fun!
Enjoy reading all comments and replies. My comment is. These youtube guys show rigging and setups but they don't show that they are catching fish. I know this method does work and this guy is informative. Just show others that these methods do work with the end result of each and every cast.
I like this video. I fished when I was a kid with my dad but that was like 15 years ago and I'm just starting to get back into it with friends a few times this summer. And looking on youtube for basic tips there are so many fishing type guys who are over the top about this. They have like 50 poles and go into too much specifics that I just don't care about.
Or the whole video is just then catching fish, maybe telling you what bait they used, without ever showing how they rigged it. Presentation is more important than bait selection a lot of the time.
I just got a 7’6” ultra light Shakespeare micro light and love it can’t wait to get some pan fish, trout maybe even a medium to large largemouth bass I love light tackle fishing for bass so this will be a blast.
Yes!!!!.....I have a story...So when I was a teenager I went out on a charter boat for salmon...Things were slow and there were some big smelt that would follow your bait up to the top...Well I had brought a salmon rod and a trout spinning rod loaded with 4 pound line....I figured that since the salmon were not biting I'd try to catch a smelt...I put a white crappie jig on the trout rod and pinned a small anchovy fillet to the hook...I dropped it down and a few minutes later hooked a 17 pound king salmon by accident....What a fight on that 4 pound line....It took over 30 minutes but I landed that king!....There is a picture of it and a much younger me on the wall behind me right now....LOL
When people tell me their story of the one that got away I think how could you of done it differently. But when I hear about the one that was huge I think, I bet I can catch that on 10lb braid and 6 or 4 lb mono or fluoride leader or straight 4 to 6 lb mono or fluoride main line. The number of bass that I’ve caught on 4 lb line and 6 lb that the fish was 5-6lb bass when they run they could easily snap your line like a twitch but if done right you can even catch a bass on ultra light line and tackle.
@@FHSTackle how do you set the hooks on soft beads? I went to a spot with 14 inch wild trout near highway 44 in redding on the sacramento river and was getting bites but failed to set the hook. my soft bead was 2 inches above the hook. Do I set it hard or just pull it like an octopus hook?
Just want to say thanks for your video! Just getting into it and I came across your video early on, and after further research, everything you recommend is being verified by other videos and websites.
Finally someone who answered a question I have always wondered about. I always thought that if Fluorocarbon is invisible why couldn't you use a stronger pound test for leader? Now I am definitely going up in leader strength when I fish.
This is an instructional video....Here's a video of me catching a beautiful rainbow (link below)....I'm in this to help people catch fish, not to show video of me reeling in fish after fish...That gets sorta boring...Thanks for the view and the comment though.... th-cam.com/video/gaHVNfb1j6o/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for the Vid! I’d suggest using Carolina Stoppers, it’ll save you the trouble in having to tie swivels and you can easily adjust the leader length this way. Just thought I’d throw it out there.
I fell like I have the worst luck fishing 😡I rigged up like this went to Collins lake for 3 days couldn’t catch anything. Tried different color Powerbaits , worms, marshmallows, mice tails, flies, kastmaster, j hooks , treble hooks , everything I could think of, but the guys next to me caught 8 big trout , looked like they were rigged up the same way , I was frustrated to say the least , it makes no sense to me , I must be doing something wrong so do you do bank fishing lessons Cal ? because I don’t own a boat , so any techniques I learn on your fishing guide service probably isn’t going to benefit me later when I’m bank fishing, also would bank fishing lessons be any cheaper since there is no boat involved ?
8 or 10 hook. My dad uses 6. Some people like to throw a bunch of powerbait around the hook, I use pieces of worm or one yellow and one orange powerbait egg with powerbait trout goop. Put the yellow egg on the hook first, I limit every time I go out. To catch larger fish you will want to use a worm blower and float the worm, this is because the larger older fish will quit hitting powerbait.
@@trevorsinclair9967 There are a lot of factors...Are you tying the clinch knot with the line doubled? Are you applying super glue to the knot? Are you using a jam knot on the tag? How short are you cutting the tag? How much pressure are you putting on the line? This is an extreme example, but if you are tying a clinch knot in 65 pound braid and using it for bluegill fishing, the knot is certainly not going to slip.....So terms like most often, very often or always are inaccurate....In your experience they may slip....In my experience they don't slip as often as some people think....
@@FHSTackle I totally understand where you are coming from, but I don't think there is a need for all these factors. It can be as simple as tying the polimar knot which will not slip period. It's probably the easiest knot to tie in fishing history, and is non slip. I only don't use the polimar knot if I'm using monofilament ( I use the clinch/fishermen's). There is no need for super glue or anything like that when using the polimar, so the question is: why NOT use the polimar?
You bet...I've been fishing with that same basic rig for 30 plus years...I grew up fishing urban lakes in the San Francisco Bay Area...The trout fishing is good there, but the trout can be finicky....Early on all we used was worms, cheese and salmon eggs.....When PowerBait hit the market it changed everything! That rig isn't sexy but it's deadly! LOL
You can use the same set up for fishing off the bottom....You can also toss lures or float baits under bobbers...but that bottom fishing rig I show is the basic rig to use most of the time....

So many implications and questions of where you begin sniffing the fish. Do you start at the Ass or mouth portion of the fish. Isn't there a law protecting fish sniffers from ever going near a lake, pond, stream or river. If not there should be . OK back to the video. No telling what I might see next.

flouro isn't invisible, it's just not as visible as mono.
I like a thicker line like a 10 even 12 lb when bottom fishing because it doesn't tangle around itself or the sinker as easy.
On a Carolina rig, I like to use a mono leader when fishing w/power bait. Mono floats, floor doesn't.
Try adding a 4ft fluorocarbon leader at the end of your braid for more hook ups. Im enjoying this video series.

Did you tie braid ( main line ) to the swivel or do you have a short top shot of fllouro that is tied to the swivel?
Typical setup is straight braid to the swivel. Use a bead between the weight and the swivel to keep the weight off the knot. ~Wes
What type of bead do you use to protect the knot from the bullet weight?
Well, I just use a generic plastic bead...Probably around 1/8 or 3/16 inch....Color doesn't matter....
size of hook did i miss it?!

You might say, you can take that to the Bank.
learned fluorocarbon less than 6lBS breaks easier than going up to 8 or 10 LBS
even when stream fishing.
Nice background. Good video. Thanks
This Collins lake in Northern California?
Yep...Northern California...
Yes estimate 30 mins out Marysville ca
What size sinker was you using?
Usually I run with 1/4 or 3/8.....Heavier will work...I don't usually go lighter....

So does the bead sit on the swivel and the weight sit on the bead?
Which hole
You don't want to use a fisherman's/ clinch knot for braid! It will slip very often
It depends....

Why is every fishing for beginners video only suitable for someone who has been fishing for twenty years?
I use 2lb monofilament just because it is cheaper

It's a Carolina rig
Kind of.....
It is brother , but try a drop shot rig In faster water or with a power trout worm

My bad mice tail was looking at my bag of power worms
Circle hook it
Nice!
Shouldn't have your line so tight it bends the rod. Over time it stretches out the fibers in it and they will be more likely to break easily.
Your right, but in a high quality ultralight you'll have to put 70% plus strain on it consistently for hundreds of hours to start weakening
A set up for trout that u can catch a 15 to 20 lb. Striped on, not good, no fun whatsoever might just use a crane
