    I'm sure someone has suggested this before, but I would 100% follow a second channel covering what you learn from nutritional research for the food nerds who crossover with the skincare nerds. Health and beauty are already so intertwined naturally, I think it could be a great side project!

    This was a great discussion of how we react to studies and integrate them into the practice of dermatology. Important stuff for all of us to keep in mind - and it makes me relieved I'm not the person who has to interpret these and give patients the best advice while we wait for replication studies! Thank you, again, for giving us the science insight with the skin care. We appreciate you!

    I'm not a scientist but I work with scientists, and I really appreciate your discussion about how science moves forward. I think it was in Adam Grant's book "Think Again" that he talks about scientists who like being proven wrong so they learned something new.
    Your sweater comment and image made me laugh so hard!! 😂😂

    • @AliceintheRabbitHole
      @AliceintheRabbitHole  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes haha! Scientists don’t really care about being “wrong”, it’s more important to figure out how things work (even if adjustments in that perspective must be made). Tbh it’s amazing to think about how much and how quickly science has progressed!

    • @ashcraft555
      @ashcraft555 ปีที่แล้ว

      Love that, Connie! I enjoy being "wrong" in a lot of things because then I can do things better or faster or in some way improve myself and my work. I've been told throughout my life that this is a neurodivergent thing but it has served me so well in life!

    Appreciate the talk about dermatologist having differing opinions especially based on what their practice focus is because I've watched all those channels and then some and seen some of the differing opinions. And that doesn't even include the chemists like Lab Muffin and toxicologists like Mo Skin Lab and the cosmetic chemist/formulators like April Basi, Glow by Ramon, kindofstephen, Esther Olu and let's not forget the estheticians! As for the pea-size retinoid, dr alexis stephens did a demo of that with an actual pea for comparison but then there's, is it a small pea or a large pea, lol?

    • @AliceintheRabbitHole
      @AliceintheRabbitHole  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes! I’ve seen people stressing over it in the comments. Opinions will differ, and it’s not an inherently bad thing. Haha yes, I’m always surprised by how big the fruit/veggies are at Costco. Not only giant bags, but big ol’ veggies lol!

  • @monicaduncan7109
    @monicaduncan7109 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yes I agree with you Alice, dermatologists always differ in options which can make it confusing for us, however another 2 dermatologists (doctorly) that adding an occlusive layer like Vaseline or Aquaphor after a retinoid MAY cause irritation and to do what works for you! I for example I have very sensitive and dry skin ( eczema) and would NOT be able to use a retinoid without an occlusive layer afterwards, I’ve tried without and I almost gave up on retinoids altogether, I’ve even been in debates with people online tell me how wrong I am …lol 🤷‍♀️will definitely check out the Torriden line 😍

    • @AliceintheRabbitHole
      @AliceintheRabbitHole  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really do appreciate that Doctorly is good with their wording. It’s easy to fall into “opinion as belief” and to forget that there are exceptions to every rule (especially with skincare!) They’re great at verbally expressing that there are exceptions!

    Did I miss it, but what was your first impression of that Innisfree makeup remover? It looked fine and removed your eye and lip makeup really quick but how did you feel about it? Did it leave your skin fine and not oily or slippery? Did your eyes feel fine after using it? I'm so nosey because I too love to use separate eye and lip makeup remover and have been looking for a good k-beauty option for that task 😆😁. I just hate how some products are too oily and leave an oily layer onto your skin. And leave your eyesight a little blurry no matter how much you try to wash it off with a second cleanser 😒. Ugh 😒.

    I feel it would be helpful if you continued using the mizon bifida serum because it takes longer to see maximum results. Then you can tell us how long it took before you felt you maxed out on results. Then the effect it makes when you stop using it would be more obvious. (as far as i could tell you used it for one month? But it takes two months to see maximum benefits) i am wondering how well it helps the skin barrier.
    Small sidenote about bartier products: a ranking of best barrier products at some point would be epic maybe also a breakdown of how they work, how fast and your experience with that. :D (what you would use when introducing a new active, in an emergency vs regularly etc)

    • @AliceintheRabbitHole

      @AliceintheRabbitHole  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@juliemitzel383 gah! I’m so sorry, this might have been when I just bought that. I admit that is VERY good, but different as it’s pressed vs loose
      So basically: the Uoma (loose) is great for locking in makeup and actually giving a bit of additional coverage without being too drying. The Zeesea is a pressed powder, so it’s even faster to use for a quick application. On my skin, the Zeesea is best applied lightly while I can theoretically go a bit more ham on the Uoma

      Maybe try avoidding octocrylene (it's not allowed in products labeled for people with allergies where i live because allergy to that filter is somewhat common)
      Also newer filter tend to be gentler :) tinosorb m is also a new filter but i find it can be a bit drying depending on formulation (it is kinda similar to mineral sunscreen in some aspect which is also why it can leave a cast). Also other than filters some ingredients are frequently used in suncreens but rarely in creams and such (this last part i find the most unlikely to be the problem but honestly you can be sensitive to anything... So i just named all the possible suspects i could think of specifically with regards to suncreen sensitivity).
      Also don't forget to moisturize like a crazy person (if you aren't already) because moisturized skin tends to be more ressilient. If you havent tried going with richer products i would give ot a shot unless of course you have a skin condition where you should not.

    This isn’t related to this video but I really appreciate how reproduce you are & I’ve asked this on several other peoples videos and I don’t get an answer , isn’t limonene a fragrence ingredient?? I’ve seen several people say a product is fragrence free but there’s limonene ! It’s very confusing

    • @AliceintheRabbitHole
      @AliceintheRabbitHole  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Limonene is a constituent of some essential oils. Often, when you see it listed out in the ingredients, it’s not signifying that a brand added Limonene into the formula, but rather that they used an essential oil which contains it. I can’t remember exactly when regulations changed, but it’s a requirement in the U.S. to list it out *because* it’s a known allergen. So for example, you could have an ingredients list that does not list the word “fragrance” but rather an essential oil that contains it. Or you could have a brand list “fragrance” and the Limonene ingredient clues you in to that fragrance having essential oils vs synthetic fragrance (or a blend)
      Hopefully that helps, as for why it would be in a “fragrance free” product, it’s either because the reviewer didn’t catch the essential oils or because the brand thinks essential oils don’t count as fragrance. Which is funny, as US regulations call Limonene a fragrance allergen
      Sorry for the long answer 😅

    Here’s another reason why dermatologists (and other docs) don’t agree: they’re not up to date on the current scientific findings. The process that gets physicians educated on scientific consensus takes years. First the scientific body has to have some level of consensus. Then the organizations and education bodies that get the info to the working docs take their own time. Then docs have make time to attend their trainings and conferences. Yes, I’m sure some docs read the primary literature in some cases but I’d say that’s rare. So while there may be plenty of research into a particular topic, the implementation of that info into patient care is years in the making. If it even makes it at all.
    I’ll give you a specific example from personal experience. Iron deficiency anemia. One common therapy is taking an iron supplement. Talk to most docs and they’ll look in their clinical software to see it’s recommended as one 325mg tablet per day. Talk to the clinical research group that tested the difference between once daily and once every other day and they’ll tell you the anemia resolved faster when people took it every other day. This is because of the body’s response to iron, it makes total sense. But how many years will it be until guidelines change? And maybe there isn’t “enough need” for them to be updated anyway. Iron supplements are cheap and maybe remembering to take something every day is easier for patients, and those reasons to keep the guidelines as is outweigh the downside of increased time for the anemia to resolve. As patients, we want the best answers. But it’s not always as black and white as social media makes it.
    Alice, I would be your neighbor. But I melt at 75 degrees. 🤓🤗

    • @das_ein
      @das_ein ปีที่แล้ว

      And this is why I’m such a terrible patient. I look through the latest research before any appointment and walk away afterward with: 🙄 or 🤨 or 🤔 or 🤦🏻‍♀️. And why I get so frustrated that getting a second opinion is oftentimes too costly or time-consuming.
      I’m on a roll tonight. I was gonna continue with another comment about the cons of social media derms! 😆

      You don’t? I looove adapalene haha! And the interesting part is that I saw results starting off with just once a week use. It’s potent stuff!

    Did I hear you correctly? Do you have your Ph.D. in Nutrition? I ask because I only know two people with such degrees, and I’m related to them.

    I'm so confused Danessa Myricks has launched yummy skin serum skin tint, yummy skin serum foundation, yummy skin serum glow and idk what's what, the one you have is not on the UK retailers idk pls brands can yall be clear

      I got ya!
      The skin tint has a lower amount of pigment to it, essentially just adding a bit of color to your skin (vs “coverage”). The foundation has higher pigment so it will coat your skin (higher coverage). The serum glow is a primer-like product that adds shimmer before applying your makeup. Hope that helps!

    Hallo Alice. You got me lol... I wasn't going to try the DM yummy thingy but now I am. I was thinking will you be my neighbor then your addressed it lol... I was laughing because I have a red sweater just like it. Oh yes people tease. By the way one of my favorite powders os Moira tricolour ones pressed and loose. My dry areas were yes you are not making the areas worse unlike the Haus Labs one. 🫤. Lots of fun to watch thank you so much
