I remember reading many years ago that Bob Fripp wanted to learn an extremely difficult guitar track from another artist. He finally mastered it, only to find out that the original track had been recorded slowly and speeded up for the final recording. He is truly one of the greatest guitar technicians the world has ever known.
This is my favorite album of all time, and it is the album that got me into progressive rock, but I will probably not get this expanded edition because I mostly use streaming. Thankfully, Fripp has FINALLY allowed King Crimson's music to be on some streaming services. Steven Wilson is great too! I love his stereo mix and remaster of Aqualung by Jethro Tull as well as his solo work and work with Porcupine Tree.
Michael Giles even though he's not as good as bruford is still my favorite Crimson drummer (from the old times, cuz the three guys that got now are crazy good). There's a live video of them with this lineup, and Michael Giles is playing pots and pans and forks and kitchenware hanging from little strings in the video. It's just so cool

I’m glad I held off on buying the other 25 reissues/iterations of this album they’ve done so far. Love the album, but this has to be the end if the reissues on this one doesn’t it ? 😂
No. There's another box set of this album coming out later this year, it's getting ridiculous. I've got all the big box sets, including the first one for this album, can't be bothered anymore, enough is enough.
I may pick his version up but I’ve not succumbed to the “3 extra newly found outtakes” BS to this point so yeah enough is enough. Fripp must have bought a new castle somewhere or something ...
I have the original release (Canadian press) vinyl with the cool textured cover, Had it since 1974 after my uncle had bought it when new. One of my most cherished albums of my large size record collection.
This is off-topic, but I have been meaning to ask you about something. It is obvious that you love prog (wise choice), but I never hear you talk about one of the best musicians within prog: Mike Oldfield. Have you not listened to him very much? I'm sure you heard his debut at some point. Anyways, I would love a video ranking his albums / top 10 songs / etc... If you have not heard enough, listen to it! It's incredible! Also, great video. Does the 40th anniversary edition have the equipment list for the musicians? Just asking because I thought that I ordered the 50th anniversary edition of Court from Amazon, but it turned out to be the 40th.
MBonfire1 I first heard this album shortly after it’s release and I loved it but, similarly, thought the ‘moonchild’ instrumental was just filler. Years later, though, I love it, it’s genius- effectively inventing ambient jazz almost as an afterthought.

Ouch, hope it got sold to a passionate record collector. Makes me wanna put my copy's cover in a frame on the wall, oh hey I can switch out this one that has Amon Duul II's Wolf City
I'm glad they put this out. No one is making you buy it. It does sound better than the 40th ann. version, which sounded very good. Bottom line, it's one of my top 25 albums, and I want the best copy I can get. This beats any other master on CD or SACD or vinyl. This is the poster child for how good a CD can be.

If there ever was a true prog rock classic this is it. One of the most amazing and important albums to ever be released in history. They have released many very unique albums over their history. Some Great, some verygood and some not so good in my opinion. But this album will stand alone as a genuine classic of theirs. An incredible masterpiece of Prog rock.🙂

Mogul Thrash, King Crimson, Family, Roxy Music, Uriah Heep, UK, Wishbone Ash, Asia as well as a solo career too. Wetton was in many groups also special guest on a lot of artists albums. He was the Jack of all Trades of prog.
I love the album as I call it their best album besides Larks and Islands. They've made so many strong and brilliant albums but I regard this one of the top best albums of all time. King Crimson are one of my very high favourite prog bands.
Oh surely they have one or two more reissues in em for the first album heh heh. Alternate versions would be reasonably exciting but the definitive form of the iconic cover is of course the record sleeve

A terrific album, but getting a little tired of these remixes. No reason to pick this up on vinyl though, since its cut from 96/24 digital, whereas the 2009 version was analog.

Wait for the big box that's coming out later this year that'll probably have all this and the live stuff. Got all the big box sets, including the first one of this album. Enough is enough, just money grabbing, personally I have everything and cannot be bothered anymore.
Was a new remix necessary? The main reason I don't buy physical music is how the industry and artists themselves try to milk the last drop of money from every fan. 😑
I find King Crimson a hard band to like but this album (in one form or another) is a genuine prog classic. I just wish there wasn't excessive noodling on Moonchild.

I'm an old fashion vinyl person. The original vinyl sounds OK, but not overly dynamic I wonder how much they can extrapolate from the original masters? I have a version in the car too which sounds OK. Interesting enough to hear how this one sounds all the same time, but there's so many different masters coming out these days, to me it looks like more a cash grab with almost constant reissues.
