Smart idea! Only I and others don’t hold our yarn like this. So it won’t work for all but that’s my problem lol Still, I could potentially modify it as well so it’s great regardless.

Thank you for your advice! I'm working on a piece of tapestry crochet that's really slow going because of all the color switching but I'm not sure how to do this technique and crochet over my yarn rather than leaving floats but I'll keep playing with it.

Why don’t you crochet over de yarn you are carrying? Now you have a small loop (flood) on the back.
