Thanks for watching!
Kevin, thank you very much for what you are doing/sharing. I'm 76 and since my recent retirement, I made it my goal to learn as much about the guitar and playing guitar as I am able. You are wise beyond your years, and really have a great and understandable way of explaining things. I also appreciate your honesty/understanding, and when you caution that some things will take years if not a lifetime to master. I've been practicing the pentatonic scale and really did not understand its significance until just now. When I was a teenager I bought a cheap (almost unplayable) folk guitar and learned to bang out cowboy chords, but never progressed past that. In retirement I decided to take the time and learn more about the instrument. By chance I found your channel, and you have opened doors for me. Thank you so much!
I’m glad you’re getting value out of the videos!
You are right....I am 55yrs old and I also want to learn guitar from now and after retirement...
Good luck for ur guitar learning..
Take care
By the end the of all Level Series. Hands Down This channel would be the BEST Channel to learn Guitar from for any level Guitarist. Only request is keep uploading 🙏
Thank you! Working on new videos right now!
YO WHAT A COINCIDENCE I WAS JUST WATCHING LESSON 2ND ONCE AGAIN HOPING FOR THE 3RD ONE AND YOU UPLOADED IT RIGHT AWAY! Man honestly love your work please keep these lessons up :)
Sameeee lmaooooo well 4 hours later but sameeee lmaooooo 😂😂
hadn't touched my guitar in years but these videos have got me practicing every day!! thank you so much I have no idea where I'd be right now without this series
Finally, a musician who can explain simply
This series has been so helpful so far, I can't wait till the next one comes out!
Thanks! I appreciate it!
So I already know everything you have taught, but you do it so well I watch your videos like a favorite movie. This is all done very well.
I've been doing a 30 day intro course and shamelessly watching other videos as well. I'm on day 20-something, have been watching guitar videos every day, and this is the first time I am hearing that the notes repeat after/on the 12th fret. Looking at the notes, I can see it, but nobody actually stated that one simple fact, it was just left as something for me to discover
Bro you deserve at least a million subscribers here!!!!
I really wanna thank you! ❤
Wow, thanks!
Love your videos man - too many online tutors go from 0 to 1 to 2 to 78 in one video. "So, that's called a NOTE, and you can play more than one note to make a CHORD. See? Strum these together and you've made your first chord! Now, once you know your first chord, you're ready to take that and use it in an ionised conducive quadrant to suspend your interior clavicular modem. * proceeds to shred *. Guitar for beginners!"
This made me lol. Thanks man, this is really kind and I appreciate that what I'm going for is translating well. If you're cool with it I might use this joke at some point in a video, it was seriously good.
@@kevinnickens by all means - let it be my contribution to the world of music 😂
I take private lessons and this is exactly where I'm at now. Learning the pentatonic scale and Alternate picking. Plus some power cords. Always look forward to you videos.
Back at it again with another killer video! Kevin is leading an army of future rockstars
You’re really nice
Clear, concise and funny. GREAT JOB!
following these as you release them is really motivating tbh, trying to push myself and see actual improvement since the last was released is a great feeling
Been playing for 2 years and this video just now showed me how to figure the notes out on the neck. Well done and kudos on the great lesson.
I'm so thankful to you for making these videos; can't wait for number 4!
Thanks!
I’ll be a rockstar in no time!
Hey Kevin, I just want to tell you that you explain playing the guitar quite clearly and simply without all the hype that others are doing. I appreciate your teachings very much.
Hello Kevin, I recently started learning guitar and I found your videos most useful and to the point. I have a small request, could you please create different playlists of all different levels so that it is easy to go back and follow the videos sequentially while we practice.
Thanks.
Hell yeah man this helps me so much, time to apply it.
I knew about the minor pentatonic scale in general but you explained it brilliantly and a few things clicked for me. Thanks man
I sincerely think this channel is underrated. I'm a big fan of free content, since I also love free and open source software. This channel is the first guitar channel to my knowledge that provides a roadmap in such a way that it can easily be picked up instead of a paywall. Thank you, Kevin for not only making music more accessible, but also for your content because I think it's quite entertaining also!
This series is amazing and I've been waiting for level 3, you have helped me progress really well. I have been forgetting my sunglasses though
Enjoying your videos man very educative and entertaining
I still cant fucking digest that how is this guy so underrated after so much like he might be the best in this stuff cuz other youtubers jus presume a lot of stuff he just teaches everything like from the scratch and i really love that part he definitely my goat
I think this is the best series to learn guitar! It would be helpful if you could talk about what to practice with each level and what to do once, we've got it down. Again, thank you for doing this! Love the work!
Thanks for sharing before learning any minor pentatonic scales, you need to know the 3 pillars of guitar playing starting with melody that leads to harmony and rhythm.
You should also make a video on how to hold the pick and the different ways to hold and use the pick.
Bro you're killing it. Great vids. You'll def grow 💪
I practiced pentatonic scales for the entire duration of this video. 😎
was wondering when the next video was coming !
Another 5 slightly more difficult songs to learn video would also be really welcome :P
THANKS KEV!
Yessss!!!! Thank you so much, I needed this so bad haha, thank you so much 🙏
loving the content
Thanks Captain!
love ur teaching style and comedy i think ill be returning to this video alot :)
been thinking about level 3 all week keep the vids up! Hopefully i get my own guitar soon
Thanks daddy kevin!
(I can't find that guy so I'm gonna do the ritual)
Great work scooter
Subbed. Started guitar two months ago. I sound so good now.
WHEN EP 4
This helped me so much, keep up the good work, please
Great content, Kevin. Keep it coming 🤘
Hello Kevin,❤
I am a new subscriber.
Welcome!
How high up the fretboard do you think we should be able to play scales in generell? I really love what u r doing! Your videos have everything i miss from other channels!!!
Just the type of instruction I needed. Thanks Kevin!!
Do you offer a paid course? Sorry if you’ve already mentioned it as I’m new to your channel
No, I don’t have a course. I don’t want you guys to have to pay for the “good” information
thanks papa kevin
I have a question:
It’s been 4 months of electric guitar. I changed my pick, picking grip, and started palm muting 2 months ago.
I started using a jazz 3 and closing my hand into a “fist” as my picking grip. After palm muting and playing a lot of bottom 3 string songs I decided that I like how the hand lays on the strings during palm muting so I just lowered my hand and put it on the bridge, effectively having the same position as when palm muting with my pick now above my lower humbacker.
Now, 1 month later, I started doing alternate picking drills and such and I noticed that I always keep hitting my humbuckers when I pick, especially on the higher strings. I tried different picking grips, different arm positions, loosening my hand, playing slow, everything, and I can’t fix it.
Moreover, when I try to pick the strings as gently as I can, for some reason there’s barely any sound coming out, so I have to attack them more aggressively but then I lose control.
The question I have is: Do I keep my wrist in the same position at all times or do I move it down when I go down the strings? Can you provide a detailed and comprehensive video on hand positioning? I’m lost and this is causing me so much discomfort that I can’t practice at all.
All in a days work bucko
For the picking problem the first thing I would try is to go back to a regular pick from the Jazz 3. Jazz 3’s are great if you already have god levels of control, and you want a bit more, but the downside is they will expose every minor flaw in your right hand technique. I would recommend a thinner pick that has some give and bends a little bit under pressure.
There’s this idea among metal dudes that the ultimate pick is just a quarter because it has absolutely no give and sounds super bright bc it’s metal, and I’m not saying that’s a bad idea, but if you’ve only been playing electric for 4 months I think it might benefit you to get a thinner, regular size pick.
Other than changing your pick, yeah you want to move your wrist a little bit as you play across the strings. Try practicing some Jimi Hendrix/ John Mayer songs like Little Wing or Gravity because they will force you to move your hand position around in the correct way.
The final thing would be to really try focusing on keeping your hand, arm, and shoulder relaxed while you’re playing. I know you mentioned that you’ve tried this, but try putting a bigger focus on this. If playing is causing you any discomfort, that always comes from tension. Discomfort when playing guitar never doesn’t come from tension, so try to be less tense. If you focus on relaxing your shoulder the rest of your arm should follow.
Good luck champ
Well sport, it’s been about a week. How’s it going? Have the changes helped?
@@kevinnickens I learnt about pick slanting and realised that I had a string hopping problem. I am in the process of fixing it and I barely touch the humbuckers anymore. I’m learning how to engage my arm to lower my hand as I move to the higher strings, and I’ve been running scales and similar exercises to improve my synchronisation and speed. I also tried the songs you recommended. Thanks and keep on making content, you’re great help for newbies and your content is welcoming, easy to understand and the guitar level system is great, you leave out the bullshit too lol
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥can't wait for the next one
Pls make another video of this
How do you do the Pentatonic scale on the acoustic guitar? It seems much harder since the frets are further apart than the electric guitar.
How can I know the scale of the song when I only know the chords of the song? And what is the difference between scales and keys in guitars? By the way thanks for your video😄
Where is level 4
what level do you teach me how to shave my beard dad
Yikes! I'm having a hard time conforming my fingers on the frets for chords but especially the pentatonic scale. How do I escape this? I'm sure I don't need to break and reset my fingers. I know - practice. It's a challenge.
Yeah, just practice. Everything seems impossible until you do it!
I’m finally on level 3
when does ep 4 drop?
hi, I'm wondering if you did or are planning to do muting techniques? I'm really struggling with that part
i believe he did some on the newest video after this one and on the 7 chords video
First?
Confirmed 👍
Thank you so much for doing this video, as a suggestion speak less and add practice more
