- A completely loaded Ford Focus and an Infiniti that's just a Maxima underneath? That's what I just bought for $800... but neither are in great shape and one only wants to drive in reverse.

Holy smokes an I35! I had one back in the day. It was a 2004; blue outside but the same tan interior you have on this one. I put 160k miles on mine before moving on, but it was an absolutely wonderful car. It really was a Maxima in a tux (for its time anyway), and it made both daily drives and cross country road trips effortless. And even at well over 100k miles, that Nissan VQ v6 would still throw you back if you floored it.
One tip though: Be wary of the in-dash 6disc changer. It was notorious for glitching out and just permanently skipping no matter what you put in there. Back in the day Nissan was warranty-ing them like crazy after a few years, and ofc the hardware vendor who built them was like "oops our bad".
I almost bought one a couple years ago... im in the rust belt so when i found one with little to no rust i was so excited. Black over tan interior.. i wish i had picked it up! always liked the style of these fancy maxima's
It might have been a good thing where my dad's maxima had an aftermarket clarion one.

The stopper for the brake switch has probably come loose.
Also, my old QX4 had the brake light issue. It's the little plastic piece in the pedal that hits the switch - once it's fallen out, the lights are always on. Another annoying side effect of this is the cruise control is tied into that switch - basically if the light is on, cruise control thinks you are breaking and turns itself off.

The gas door locks if the key is out of the ignition and also that's the same color as my Infiniti G35 inside and out. You'll never guess what they call the colors so I'll tell you. Exterior Diamond Graphite interior Willow.

My mechanic lent me an old Maxima while I was getting an oil change/tire rotation this morning. It's hilarious how little they changed for the infinity. This was a loaded model, so the same sound system, HVAC controls, pretty much everything. It had 290k on it, still ran great, first gear was a bit rough if you accelerated hard from a stop, but shifted through all of the gears.
That Infiniti looks just like the Maxima sold in Europe.
Probably because they are one in the same. Also Europe's Honda Accord is the Acura TSX in the United States.
Our Australian A33 was very similar too. 👍👍
It was also called the Nissan Cefiro in Japan. It shares a lot with the Maxima in top GLE trim
A lot of nissans have a little plastic puck to hit the brake switch. I've replaced a couple with the cheap white plastic sliders for chairs.
I literally almost bought and Infinity I35 for my son's 1st car today lol. It was in pristine condition too. I had a Maxima back int the day and I loved both of them. Also if I am not mistaken the I35 has and LSD too...
That Focus looks pretty well optioned honestly.
Another previous I-35 owner. I bought it 3 years old with 10K miles, sold 6 years later with 220K on it. The only things that broke are the radiator and a taillight bulb. One of the better cars I owned for a long commute.
Yep had a 2000 Nissan Maxima GLE back in the day and the best things about it were the comfort, smooth quiet engine (VQ30) and freezing cold AC.
Like that movie "DC Cab". Theres a scene where one of the driver's cab is stuck in reverse and someone yells at him and he says "I'm 'bringing' it to the shop" as opposed to "taking it". Since he was going backwards. lol
I had one of those first generation Focus 4 door hatchback. Great little car that i got rid of because the body was falling apart but the engine was still going strong.
The brake lights stuck on is super easy to fix. The brake switch tip breaks easily and then it's on by default (it's above and the pedal being up contacts it). Probably what killed your battery too. I fixed ours with a trim clip from another car that I jammed into the switch to give it a new "pin" and the brake pedal hit it.
That I35 is stought 0-60! love those!
Hey, sometimes that gen of maxima loses the sunroof memory, if you press the other button that operates the tilt, itll actually move back a little bit each time you press it till its full open. Then when you move the slider back to closed itll close. Mine and my brother's car have the same sunroof memory trouble lol.
I had an issue with my old Tacoma where the brakes would only lock in reverse. Turns out a caliper bolt worked itself loose (no idea how, never seen this before) and was missing, When you put it in reverse, it would pull the caliper up and engage the rotor. Moving forward, it would push it down and disengage. Weird but easily fixable, at least.
These pre-CVT Maximas and I3x's were popular "beaters" in Chicagoland in 2010's, til rust got them. Same with Quest vans, pre-2004.

I had the 2002 Maxima SE version of that I35. that 4speed auto killed it. Had a buddy with the 6sp manual Maxima... it was sexy 6.5s 0 to 60... a poor man's Bimmer until the G35s took over.

The I stands for it is under the ds armrest. The only time I recall knowing something vaguely useful whilst watching the frugalmeisters at it again.

I always recommended the I30/35 to people looking for a cheap car in the 2010s since they're almost as good as a Camry/Accord but way better and just as cheap as an Altima.
on the Infiniti, hit the lock 4 times on the fob... some had a factory remote start.
and also try hit unlock and hold for 10sec... should roll down all 4 windows.

Lol people think parting out cars is easy. Less than 10% of people that message you actually show up, and not that many people are actually out there fixing cars to begin with. I was going to part out a car once, sold 2 parts for like $40, then I ended up giving the car away

Hmu if you need a transmission for the I35. I have one from an 02 Maxima.
The rear brakes on these models would always lock up because of the calipers. Probably just needs rear calipers pads and rotors. Be good as new. I had 2000 maxima, loved that car until some highschool teenager tboned it one morning when they were rushing to school.
those bags that dessicate after a year or two are biodegradable and supposed to do that, but those fragments are pretty much for life
I have a collapsible 4 way that came with an old truck I used to have. It’s a lot easier to stow it than a regular 4 way.

I had a friend in highschool with a clean (one owner parents car) low mile infiniti i30. The plastic fan broke inside so it would heat up. Instead of just fixing the fan he sent it to the junkyard... Not the sharpest tool in the shed.

Reset the sunroof takes 2 secson the Infiniti and I have a 02 Maxima with a mint cloth interior and a lsd 6 speed transmission and a trashed engine I will let you have for $250 in Cincinnati. If you’re interested I will email you pics and videos.

We didn't get this as the infiniti in Australia, but our A33 Maxima was very similar. (Not the ugli-fied version that America got, sorry guys.) I drove one for 8 years and I cannot speak any higher of it! Just an allround excellent car and no mistake 👌👌
