The taillights are from 08+ and are a nice upgrade on the earlier model years. They’re not imported or “special”, just a tasteful upgrade most of us do. Love that you got another Saab on the channel. I’m a Saab nerd so this is right up my alley!
Came here to say the Same lol
Needs some KONI SHOCKS NEW TORES
Yep
2007 right? atleast here in sweden
You know your stuff...
That V6 was made here in Melbourne Australia by Holden
I have the tx, great engine ❤
Another Saab is rescued. You are amazing!
The night panel shuts off the speedo past 90 and then turns back on once you hit 85, but you have to enable it in the menu on the SiD (the little screen on the dash)
Make sure you JB weld the bottom of those washer fluid sprayers because they like to come apart and leak the fluid everywhere.
There's a 3rd company that makes tuning stuff specifically for saabs, they're called maptun and operate straight out of Sweden.
Make sure you take off that trim piece with the trunk button on it and check for rust/corrosion. they're not very well sealed.
That headlight switch is a dummy switch. saab did this because its an EU regulation that you must have you headlights on at all times and they didn't remove it in the cars destined for America.
It doesn't have factory Bluetooth but you can buy a little Bluetooth module that takes the space of the aux cable on Saab plus for 80 euros. shipping takes a long time because its from Norway.
That 6 cd changer sucks. it never works and its more complicated than a Rolex.
The radio and SiD might not be lighting up because this car has a 3 (factory) amp system and all 3 of them must work for those to turn on. the under under the drivers seat usually gets exposed to the elements and breaks.
Can I bring the thumb drive in from Norway with ,y friends and put it in my computer bag?
SAAAAAAAAB story time....ive been seriously considering a 93
After 30 minutes with this car I’d recommend it 💯
@@WatchJRGo I’ve got 3… they’re honestly very fun and quirky cars. Highly underrated
Saab 9-3 or 9-5. They're both great cars! I'm getting ready to yank my motor and trans out of my 9-5 to service the clutch and timing chains. My car had 265k miles and still runs and drives great (minus a slipping clutch)! I'd love to tune it so there's boost in first gear.
I've had 4 of em...so cool ...plane like technology ...lost two of em to bad reservoir tank...and watch for ECU goes bad on top of the motor.....one of em got at 40 mpg..on the highway at 55..fun cars
Sans are awesome looking cars. I’ve had 3 of them.
Seen this car around Wichita and now you got it! Can’t wait to see this car back on the road.
Fantastic. Content
We drove Saab 9000 Aeros and then 9-5s when I was a police officer in Vail. We would race the state troopers that had the Camaro B4Cs. The 9000 aero was my favorite. It kept up with the Camaros at altitude.
9000 aero is considered one of the best Saabs ever made definitely better than the 9-3 in this video
I'm sure this is an Urban legend but we always heard that Saab donated cars to police in Colorado so when people at the dealership asked "Is it good in the snow"?, the salesman could reply "Police in Colorado drive them"! 🙂
@@tsgorman the Town of Vail leased each one for around $200 per month during my time. It was a large discount for TOV and free marketing for Saab. The deal was the TOV could not cut anything out or remove any parts. They had to make custom brackets for the radios, lights, and MP5 mount. Yes we carried MP5s instead of shotguns. The crazy part was the suspects had to ride in the front passenger seat in handcuffs as we did not have a cage. They would be sitting right next to the MP5 mount. Great officer safety. I used to play jokes on the drunk people and turn on the heated seat. They would get quiet because they thought they pissed themselves when the seat warmed up. Nobody ever thought a police car had heated seats. Unfortunately some actually did urinate and shat themselves.
Where is Vail
@@MostGenericUser I much prefer the saabs with real saab engines over the ng 9-3s and ng 9-5s. Unforchinately the dame 9-5s are ugly and have very gm-ified interiors which feels a lot cheaper than the ogs. I guess on the bright side, the ng 9-3s still have saab gearboxes and drivetrains, but the engines just aren't the same, and the interior feels very mid 2000s GM.
check the optic fiber loop. all audio goes by optical fiber. if its broken someewhere, there will be no audio. if amp under seat or phone module in trunk id missing, the fiber must be looped
With all that aftermarket junk in the trunk, it's a fair bet that the optical loop has been damaged or just pulled apart from a connector somewhere.
@@tonyfisk8081
Correct.
Probably they had an aftermarket radio in the cdplayer location, and now a rat nest behind all that...
@@sergiobisonte No just looks tapped into the oem amp. Probably bad amp 1
@@GabrielGomez-p3n my saab has a dead underseat amp (its for doors and center speaker), but the rest of the system is working... the connector conected to the amp does the loop no matter if the amp is working or not
I am so pumped up now! Another Saab AND the special one. I have 2004 95 2.0t manual wagon with a tune (225 hp & 250 ft lb) so not fast as the Aero, but enough for me. Third gear pull is the thing for sure. I can't wait to see more. Greetings from Finland.
Saab turbo team made this 2.8T combo so good that it's still used today in modern Opel Insignia (in Europe). Some models even come at 325 bhp straight from the factory.
Sorry but it's not been used in the Insignia since 7 ½ years when they stopped making the A generation
this will sound crazy, but check the amp under the driver's seat. also check the fiber optics in the back of the CD changer/stereo/HVAC control and the fiber optics on the back side of the parcel shelf.
the world needs more saabs
Saabs are really special - owning a defunct brand is always challenging, but the community is passionate and parts are still readily available
The Front aero lip is missing and replaced with a standard 2.0T or Arc lip. You should get a correct one as makes it way better
Very nice JR. I have a 2006 Aero Lazer Red with 171,000 and love it. The 9-3 Saab just looks good.
If you wanna have a SAAB meet up, let me know. I can bring my 97 down.
Nice trade up 4cyl turbo auto for a v6 turbo manual can’t beat that
The V6 loves to get hot. Timing chain is an engine out job. Other than keeping it cool, and changing the oil often with good 0w40 and filters they are reliable. Owned way too many over the years.
You can do chains in the car I’ve done it 5+ times
@@a.b.e6458 Good for you. Faster to drop the engine with the sub frame vs the horrendous struggle of doing it in the vehicle.
@@a.b.e6458 please do a video !
I just went and looked at an 06 aero sportcombi (wagon) with the 2.8T 6 speed manual. I’m most likely going to purchase as a new daily and I’ll be posting videos on my channel of course
@@GTsGarageTech an aero sport combi is the last on my list of 9-3s I really want to get. I’ll tune in to see what ya get!
@@kevinrazlog5789the exterior is a bit beat, but the car only has 116k on it. We’ll see what happens!!
@@GTsGarageTech awesome, low miles! Paint can be fixed so that’s a huge plus! Looking forward to seeing it on your channel
@@kevinrazlog5789I’ve made a few reels on it so far. Might be a bit before I get a full video on it
I like to think of my Saab as the most desirable spec.
I have a 2006 Saab 9-3 Aero with the 2.8 v6 and a 6spd manual.
The exterior color is jet-black (paint code 298), with the same exact interior as this one.
I love Saab.
I watched the movie, If, where the Grandmother drives a Saab 900, (which is shown once)!
You're happy? I'm saabing 😢
Also, these cars do not like aftermarket coil packs. They have to be ac delco or Bosch otherwise it’ll miss and run like crap. The best plugs are NGK for this car (I don’t remember the model number)
*Unless it’s blue streak coils, all 2.8 tuning companies say to run the blue streaks
Nice to see a Saab on the channel again.
A 74 Porsche 911 turbo does 70 in first gear but it's only a 4 speed. Crazy 0 to 60 times though.
In a lot of these, all of the ones I have driven here in Norway, that passenger grab handle is actually an ice scraper. If I remember correctly you could also buy other stuff for it from Saab.
In the us it was a cd holder, but you could buy optional accessories including the ice scraper
I am glad I was wrong this is actually far more interesting.
The SID & radio display aren't lighting for some reason. I remember hearing that the audio system uses fiber optics, may be related considering the PO hacked into it for those amps.
You are 100% correct. Doing after market stereo in these used to be a big no-no and would cause you to loose turn signals or something.
its fiber optic and is controlled by the unit under the drivers seat that may be the issue
I hope this is not a saab story. Sorry to sound like a broken aero😆
Na, the silly b#@ch that runs GM fixed that for us….
“3rd gear is a monster!” True. It has overboost protection in 1 & 2nd gear and you only get full boost starting in 3rd gear.
The green interior lighting came from the aerospace industry SAAB was known for. Soft green light allows for dark adaptation of your eyeballs (the rod cells in your eyes build up a chemical called rhodopsin, which allows the human eye to see better in the dark). Curiously, the US Air Force uses red lighting to the same affect.
BMW uses red backlighting
Swedes land there fighter jets on highways and have bunkers MAINTAIN AND FUEL. To services them in case of EMERGENCY
Not Chevy Malibu,it is GM Opel Vectra/Cadillac CLS
Nope not CLS. It’s BLS.
How do you not have a chainsaw? You have a wooded lot now and you have every other tool. You even have tools for tools. You even have a commercial mower for a lawn with very little grass.
It's at the lake house 🍻
Nice one JR :) Looking forward to you fixing it up!
I now pronounce you hooptie king since the previous king is under trial of buying an actual nice car, turning it into a hooptie, then destroying it.
I loved these! The ignition switch placement was unlike anything else and the aero model was just soo clean!
Drove a Saab sonnett and HAD. SWITCH IN CONSOLE
It was put there because back in the day peoples knees would get impaled by the keys in the dash in an accident… move the key and no more issues.
Oh it was so awesome to see this video! I LOVED my Saab, they were the best cars out there. I had the 2005 - 95 SportCombi Wagon. It handled so well on the road, and such a comfortable ride. Sadly my husband rolled in the car (he got T-boned), but honestly the car is what saved his life. We still talk about that car, too bad they aren't made anymore.
I had a 1996 Saab 95 wagon V6 turbo and used to smoke my friends Mustang Lx v8. Pixie dust is in those Saab v6 turbos.❤
Weird, the 9-5 wasn’t released until 1998…
@@netmanswe so sorry it was a 99. Thanks.
I miss running my Saab 9-3s!
Working hood strut means it's a keeper.
Great trade. This is epic. I always wanted one of these but they were never to be found here lol ❤
More excited about this than any car you have now. Def detail it and re wrap roof and wrap the trunk. Those tails are verrrrrrrry rare and beautiful 😍
Nice! The Saab 9-5 was how I found your channel some years ago :)
Greetings from Sweden!
Yess!! Been waiting for you to do a Saab again. I had a 9-3 Aero like this for 7 years and I loved it!
Awww, lame....more AUdi stuff for ....a Sob. Well, ok...that Audi was a generic pos a4....this Saab is much more fun.
Hey, do you want a turbo 5cyl awd wagon for $600? It needs a head gasket. In ohio
Nah, sounds like a deal but way too far away 🍻
My second car was a new 9-3 Aero. It shut off randomly and I returned it the same year 😂. Nice car though!
The radio doesnt turn on because you have a bad amp 1 (under the drivers seat) replace it and youll be good to go
I bet they had an after market radio and just stuck the original in without plugging it up.
I bet there is cut sapaguetti behind the cd changer
The radios use a fiber optic bus and you can't really change them out for aftermarket.
@@michaelwalden5222 you can leave the stock radio, remove the cd player and put aftermarket radio there.. run the aftermarket radio with new wiring and leave oem stuff unchanged
In Europe some people think the 9-3 is just a rebadged Opel Vectra (or Vauxhall Vectra in the UK). But the truth is that’s a Vectra in tuxedo. I’ve driven the facelifted 2009 9-3 Wagon in Sweden 12 years ago and I liked that car very much.
Hey
Yo Ryan! 🍻
Hiphonics is still around. I have three Brutus mono block amps in my Yukon.
For saabs, they have always been a beast in 3rd and 4th gears. Even the NG 900 that we own and is modified, is a beast in 3rd and 4th gear.
You've got to do less talking and less of you on the camera. More shots of the car and the work, like 90% of the car and 10% of you and you talking.
SAAB was awesome before GM bought it. Everything GM touches dies 😞
If you have any questions on the v6 or 2.0T platform I got you I’ve taken lots apart one thing to note if you ever get a p0089 code it’s most likely the fuel pump you’re lucky that it isn’t an xwd v6 Manual 6 speed cause I had to look so hard for an oem pump because anything aftermarket did not work stay away from pro parts Sweden for anything Saab besides intake hoses lol
This is a sweet car I dig it
Who owns Maxxsonics?
Found in 2001 by Alden Stiefel and a handful of consumer electronics and automotive security veterans, Maxxsonics is headquartered in Libertyville, IL, in the northern suburbs of Chicago
9000 Aero is best Aero... This V6 is pretty cool, even though Saabs should have turbo 2.3 i4s.
Love SAAB's!!! I own 2 SAAB's... 2000 93 Cabrio (Maptun lowered, Mitsibushi Turbo upgrade, 17 inch 3 spoke wheels, etc) and a 2007 SAAB 95 Aero, super modified but a daily driver, Fucking fast car in second and third gear!!!!
Is it just me or does it look like it's in really really poor condition for the mileage? Mine is sitting at 286k km and it is no comparison to this. Is the pre-facelift just this much worse quality? Anyway, great to see this beauty being saved, seems like it's gonna get the love it deserves from you 🥰
I have a 2005 9-3 aero convertible. Black with a two toned parchment interior. It’s seriously the most fun car I’ve ever owned
Had a 1985 900 Turbo SPG lift back and when I cracked that up, a 1987 9000 Turbo after the 3 from the production line driven for 100k ad, then a 1993 9000 Turbo Aero, then a 2002 9-3 Viggen. I’d still be driving a SAAB if GM didn’t destroy them and make them American sh*tboxes. Such a shame.
damn I miss my 2007 9-3 SS Aero. One of my favorite cars and bulletproof like my 2002 9-5.
The taillights are stock in the US after 2008, a great tasteful mod on the older body style. They’re called Iceblocks within the community. Love my 08 9-3 aero with the 6spd!!
Geez, I do hundred mph on 3rd with my 911, I might consider trading!!
I’ve had two 9-3s and I bought both for under $400 and had so much fun with both of them and then flipped them after
because of SAAB, I subscribed and will expect more SAAB videos.
If the EFILIVE is from Vermont Tuning, then you may have the Stage 0 flashed. It takes the 255hp V6 to about 320hp. If you want to really turn the Aero into a rocket then get the Stage 2+.. With that tune add the Do88 intercooler and K&N filter you're close to 500hp. That's my setup on a 2007 Aero Vert. Tip: You can use Tamiya Semi gloss black to touch up the peeling buttons.
I LOVED my 1995 Saab 900 SE. Even after 200K miles. I regret getting rid of it.
Son still drives his 2001 9-3 turbo manual with 160k miles. It’s been mostly trouble a free good looking car.
Also I'd you plan on keeping it for a little while, better get a tech II
Wayne Kady from General Motors said Saab is , stupid cars for stupid people. Hahahahaha😅
This particular car looks rough in ways I would avoid. These Saab's are temperamental and this one looks scary! But I loved the 06 Aero I had.
I wonder if someone didn't have an aftermarket radio in it. And when they took it out and put the stock one in, they didn't hook it back up all the way?
6 or 8 yrs ago I had a chance to buy an 01 9-3 Viggan convertible from a buy-here, pay-here lot in KC. Guy wanted $1900 for it, but it had needs. Drove from OMA to look at it and there were a few more issues than he told me over the phone. I wanted to buy it so bad but my head said no, too many issues for a quick flip, sev of which were out of my Wheeler Dealer wheelhouse. After I said no, I asked the guy if he knew what he had. He said yes, he knew it was rare. Then he offered it to me for $1500. Sadly I still had to say no.
Maybe it's just me but $700 seems like a good price for a working thumb.
It’s based off the Malibu but literally everything is different. Theres very few interchangeable parts
If the previous owner had it rigged with a different stereo, then I would check all the fibre optics. You can’t simply swap out the stereo on a pre-facelift NG 93 with the older dash design, because of the way the fibre optic system works, so there’s every chance they’ve unplugged something or damaged it.
I had my first Saab when i served in Germany 1987 Saab 9000 turbo mods by Janspeed sat on the Autobahn 160 mph no problem what a car
I also just got another 9-3 today 😉
It must be 9-3 day! 🍻
I have a 9-3 2.0T biopower vectort that's very similar but not quite as powerful. I commented because I think you have an ice scraper in the saab smart slot as a cool extra equipment 😉
Saab Aero? Meh..... JR- want to see you get a Monte Carlo SS Aero! There... I said it...... Step ya game up!
Wow, still miss Saab....they just could not help themselves, had to make the best car they could and they are awesome.
What happened to the 9-5 aero? I love that you make saab content occasionally. Not many TH-camrs with a decent sized audience like you ever touch a saab.
I have been told on good authority that Saab were the favourite choice of the more affluent lefties in Europe in the 80's 90s and naughties. Any comments?
Radio (ICM) does not work if the most (optic dataline) is cut or some of its modules are broken. Probably problem is those noob sub install (factory sub amp cut wires or optic line) or front amplifier under driver seat is broken.
HECK YEAH!! Always so happy to see other people doing Saab content on here
Dude. Do not place our flag on your garage floor. A mistake I’m sure, but correct it John Ross.
you bought a car, which in order to make to order need to spend year two maybe :DDD enjoy constant sex. mine drives 5000km per year - other time tweaks and repairs to conditions. while you do main repairs, other come to :D oh and camasutra manual dont forget, no space nowhere :D
If the radio and upper display is not lighting up or working, it could be the fiber optic going to the amp underneath the drivers seat. They sell a bypass to hook the fiber optics together and it bypasses the amp (which is unnecessary). 5 min job. Same exact thing happened with both of mine and this solved it.
That model was made after GM ruined Saab, I'm sorry to say. More GM, than Saab. 😢
I’ve always been intrigued by Saab ever since I saw a 73 or 74 sonnet 3 on another channel with that tiny Ford engine. What year is yours? And what all is wrong with it? How many miles are on the clock?
A full detail video would be so satisfying for this car. Its.. dirty..
I have a spare engine cover battery cover and icm 3 radio. I'm getting rid of my 06 aero if you have any questions about the car I'm very familiar, I also have euro spec bumper running light delete panels
The radio system consists of the info display(sid) radio control panel(icm) the radio itself(ehu) and that sits between the ac panel and cd player. Probably the icm or ehu is dead so the whole system is down.
Night Panel on speedometer is 2-section selectable in the menus, 55 mi or full length. Your cars just had different options set.
Chainsaw and tree cleanup video coming up next.....
Where do you keep finding all these Swedish meatballs?
I’m a huge Volvo/Saab fan! Great to see a Swede on the channel again!
I miss my 2000 saab 9-5 aero wagon, but also at the same time I'm glad its gone. I've been tempted a couple times to get a viggen, but never went through with it.
