Hi Larry, Watched you drive at Keystone Raceway. Your technique was to blip the engine in time with the staging lights and when the last yellow came on you were at full revs and took off like a rocket. You are one hell of a driver!
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Grump's small blocks ruled the seventies,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,then nhra changes the rules.........................................
When Larry beat the Gapp & Roush Maverick at Englishtown he holeshotted Wayne Gapp and won despite Wayne running 2 tenths quicker! The driver overcame the Cleveland advantage that time.
Laurie Lombardo and I grew up together in Berkshire Heights over in Wyomissing Reese to take a little Joe Junior 55 black and white around Reading. Of course Larry always had his white Corvette or it was a great guy.
Great video Larry. Say, do you remember running at a NHRA divisional points race at Niagara on the Lake dragway in upper NY state back in 1971? I think you were driving a red Nova in Super Stock, and there was a controversy about a red light. My memory is a bit fuzzy, but I was also there running a car in Comp eliminator, and I seem to remember the run you were involved in.
Wow Larry, I remember visiting with you at Brainerd Raceway in MN. Many moons ago. We were just young men then. How things have changed! I was asking you about the new single ring pistons.
Yep, yep! They would build a spare short block in a Indy hotel room and park the Vega in the parking lot with the rest of the crew sleeping with the car outside I remember those days way back when
Call me crazy but it would appear Ole Larry doesn't get along with Ole Bill Grumpy Jenkins ... He hasn't even mentioned him by name once it's all about Larry Larry Larry ....
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Yes,,,,,,,,,Read the book ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Grumpy's toys...........Larry had a big ego,,,,,a big drive,,,,,,,He was alot younger than Bill......................
Maybe you could get to agree of making a clone of Grumpys Toy and race 🏁 the Clone and put the original Toy on display for the fans would be a cool 😎 idea 💡
Where are used to do 50 burnouts at his dad’s gas station down in Mount Penn. He would put the four barrel on that Corvette but he would take it off and put the two fours on offer G stock 50 burn out today.
J.J.M. ....................Bill and Larry can both thank Wally Parks for all those weight breaks they got ???? good seeing Double L !!!.............this should stirrer some comments ????
Let's talk about some things that the Chrysler camp conveniently doesn't want to talk about . They've been bitchng about weight since 1966, here are the facts ; Jenkins tried to get a Chrysler deal in both 1965 and '66 and they turned him down, said they had enough drivers, so Jenkins got out the rule book and studied it . The rules stated that all cars had to meet the minimum shipping weight as stated by the factory .A '66 Nova with a 327 weighs 2985 lbs., A Hemi Belvidere weighs 3800 lbs. Both combinations ran in A/ S class. It's hard to overcome a 800 lb. handicap, but nobody held a gun to Mama Mopar's head and said they HAD to race a full size car . Why do you think they brought out the Hemi Darts and Cudas in '68 , maybe because they learned a lesson ? As for Pro Stock ; a Hemi weighs 300 lbs. more than a 327 Chevy , I don't know how much a Cuda outweighs a Vega but where and how would Chrysler have lost the weight? They couldn't without sacrificing safety and the NHRA wouldn't allow that ,so they have been bitchng ever since . I don't remember which team it was anymore, but I did see it in Car Craft Magazine, someone tried to build a Hemi Colt , the front frame and suspension collapsed under the weight of the Hemi, because they undersized the tubing to save weight , which is exactly what the NHRA was afraid of . BTW, Bob Glidden put a 340 in an Arrow and beat everyone, he didn't Need a Hemi , did he ?
@@bobbrinkerhoff3592 small chevy owns the record dude Chrysler hugg these rutts get it ??? lol 😆 I always say being a Chevy guy we love the Dodge and Chrysler people it gives us somebody to Faithfully be constantly thanks Dodge and Mopar fans I've always beat a Mopar with my 327 and my 72 Nova even the 440 I smoked have a good day
@@billfioretti3013 better check your dates, the first two events of 1970 went to Jenkins big block Camaro , after that it was Sox and Martin with the Hemi Cuda , and if Ronnie Sox didn't win , his teammate Herb McCandless did . When the '72 season started Jenkins unleashed that little white Vega with the 327 and cleaned house , then switched to the Monza . It was late '76 into '77 before the Cleveland started doing it's thing .
I don't think Larry cared about blipping the revs in sequence with the tree . The vacuum system in the car at that time was pulling from the plenum, and if you quickly got off the throttle you got s quick increase in vacuum, and the one way check valve in the system held that for a little while when you went to full throttle during the run .
*I ''got rid off'' a hundred customers now*........i cant help listening to him talk that he's just a bit arrogant. But thats ok, so was Bill.....you need a little of that i spose.

Would have loved to had Bob Glidden in this video to talk a little old school pro stock with Larry for a couple minutes.

Yes you are correct! Very few people know how to pronounce my last name.
