When Nelli Kim was competing in her hey day she was so beautiful. She didn't need any make up or anything. I think it was her exotic genetic mix - her Dad was Korean and her mother a Tatar. Great gymnast too and (as others have observed here) it's insulting that the hosts introduce her to the watching TV audience as 'a rival of Nadia Comaneci' - as though this was her big claim to fame. I had only a passing interest in gymnastics as a young girl growing up in the 70's in England - and even I remember Nelli Kim!

@Simba85 it show that the soviet coaches taught their gymnasts manners. they had the highest eq i have ever seen from athletes. their answers were always precise and concise, and smart, not to mention about their discipline and behaviour.

I agree with Svetlana, the judging for the 1991 Women championships were definitely bias towards the Americans. I saw it live. Not only did Kim get scores high but so did the other Americans who performed poorly.

What kind of hosts would ask these kind of questions?! Wow! Must the guests be insulted?

Those interviewers were terrible! Clearly asking questions nobody would want to answer.
Everything they said about Nellie had a Nadia reference tacked on and the basically just kept asking Bogi what went wrong. Help.

righty......the Americans love their gymnasts according to SB...thats a bit of a lame argument when you think of how the soviets used to love their gymnasts in home competitions (Moscow 1980 for eg) and still do in their seperate countries such as Ukraine, Russia etc....

Retire? Not so fast...these French guys are such jerks. But at least Nelli and Bogi are trying to take it well, if it wasn't anybody else they would have cleaned their clocks.

I always thought Nellie to be arrogant and rude. She was powerful yes, but to me, Elena Mukhina in 77 and 78 was FAR more great to watch than Nellie ever was. Not only was Nadia way better IMO but I think Ungureanu was as well...

These are very bad interview questions. Is this how sexist it was in the early 90's?
