    Thank you for the video.😊
I bought a desoldering station from Amazon, & within a couple of days use, I'm experiencing similar symptoms you've described in your video, but I have to wait for it to cool down & follow your method.
For what videos I've watched about other people buying desoldering stations, not one informed that you first have to suck out the solder from the hole in brand new tips before use, but I noticed that you mentioned it so thank you 😊

Hi paranoidgenius: I keep a 1.0mm drill bit in a pin vise handle on the work bench to make clearing clogs easier. I have also retrained myself to hold the trigger on longer to make sure all of the molten solder makes its way through the heater tube - Chris

      @@northsideservicecompany3567 thanks for replying.
I can see no solder collection in the collector vial, all the solder comes out of the barrel when using the metal pipe cleaner tool.
I've resorted to placing the tip on the joints & pulling off the components when the solder liquifies.
It doesn't work as good as I'd hoped it would & I wonder if the old way was better with looping insulated wire through the components legs, touching the joints with a normal soldering iron for the solder to liquify & I can pull out the components, then using copper braiding & iron to clean up the excess solder.

@@paranoidgenius9164 It's regretful that your desolding tool doesn't work well, maybe it's defective. You method of "pulling" components off the boards is probably fine for single-sided boards with through-hole parts, however it seems risky for doubled-sided boards that have plated via's - It seems that you might be risking pulling the via from the board when you pull the component off. I think that using desoldering braid is safer. Also, I don't see how well pulling components off the board would work with DIP IC's - Chris

I have one Hakko 808 and one FR-301 my every day desoldering gun is the 808.
I don't know what happen with the FR-301 clogged every time that I use, anyway I have spare parts for my 808 for many years.
I bought a ZD-985 chinese desoldering station and works very well without any problem, barely use.
    Best Regars.

Hi Ricardo: The Hakko 808 is truly a great desoldering tool. I keep mine as a trusty backup and I've taken it out on service calls many times for on-the-spot repairs. The FR-301 broke to many times for it to be considered reliable. Most of the problems were related to the heater assembly. I believe Hakko has resolved these problems with the current FR-310-03 model - Chris

Hi, I have F400 now showing sensor error and no more heating?

Hi Jabir: Here's a link to the Hakko Manual for your FR400 - chrome-extension://oemmndcbldboiebfnladdacbdfmadadm/hakkousa.com/amfile/file/download/file/2948/product/11070/
It probably has a Heater or Sensor problem (or both) - Chris

I wonder why desoldering tips always have such poor lifetime compared to regular old soldering iron tips. Over 10 years I've never really had a soldering iron tip erode to a noticeable degree while I've gone through a dozen desoldering tips or so.

Hi molasses: I also have had soldering tips last for a very long time, even with the 5-6 hours a d ay I use them. I think the reason the desoldering tips clog and wear out is because the metal inside the tip is not coated with anything. This allows the rosin in the solder to eat away at the surface of the metal tip - making it a rough surface - that catches the melted solder as it's sucked-up. Simply put, the quality of the tips should be better - Chris

@@northsideservicecompany3567 One possibly reason is oxygen. It is a powerful oxidant and you are throwing a lot with the pump. Any news about about the answer to you email from Hakko? Another idea that come to my mind is maybe if you have a friend with a CNC precision lathe that can machine the inside of the old piece. Sorry for my poor english. Thanks a lot for your video. Greetings from Argentina.

@@pubdigitalix Wow, Argentina - The response from Hakko was underwhelming - They were sorry that my experience was less then great - blah - blah - blah. They did send me 3 replacement tips at No Charge and a box full of Hakko swag - I think they're a good company and make good products - having some things be a little better would be good - Chris

I have the cheap knockoff version of this (the YIHUA 948). The end of the tube where it enters the cooling filter is clogged. What do you recommend I do?

    • @northsideservicecompany3567
      @northsideservicecompany3567  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hi Kennys Boat: If it's just clogged with solder - you could try heating it up where it's clogged and suck the solder out. If it's clogged with more than just solder - you might have to drill it out - Chris

6mm is .236", are you sure you're drilling it out to that?

I'm done with Hakko. Their parts support has proven to be poor. For what most Hakko units cost, one can buy a number of new Chinese knock-offs and insure you have parts. By contrast, we bought AirVac desoldering stations in the early 1980's and can still get every single part and reasonably. The only reason we tried Hakko was for field work. Our AirVac units require a compressor which convert 80psi to 30 inches of vacuum and work VERY well.
