    The Krulghast Cruciator is fun with Rieknor. He can hurt himself with a candle snuff to be power 2 and ignore that hurt cause of the KC.

    Getting big units within 6" of a Black Coach will be tricky mind you... That model is 50% overhang on both ends of the base and getting my NH models to rank up is nightmare in and off itself! :D
    Despite that litte nitpick, this is an amazing battlepack. Really strong with both hexwraiths and bladegheists. And even grimghast reapers are pretty decent with a cairn wraith.

    Nagash is back, went 3-1-1 at a GT with him and my loss was me making a huge mistake based on not knowing my opponents army. Spreading around a 5+ ward 90% of the time and putting a whole unit back is massive.

      @@NightHauntDragon wasn’t as good as my other list with 60 bladegheists. I was slightly more tanky but I think we are tanky enough we need units with hitting power.

    My favorite trick with harrows is to take a reinforced unit of four, face them sideways for maximum coverage, and run them up to just outside of 3" of the enemy line. Now the enemy unit can't move forward at all on their turn, they have to try to shuffle around the side... but then, before they get to charge, you teleport away. The enemy can counter this tactic with counter-charge, but that burns a ton of CP and if you're also fielding a tomb banshee or kurdoss they might not even be able to do that.

      @@Morrslieb1 would actually be more effective with 2 units of 2. It's more versatile and you can screen wider. I think the strat has value as long as you also use the harrows for other things like capturing points

    I think the combat Relics and Traits have more merit to them than you’re suggesting. Specifically because the Nighthaunt heroes want to be charging to put Strike Last out there.

    Needs a point adjustment and slight rules adjustment. It’s not oppressive, just very good. Dreadblade harrows scored my opponent 4/5 battle tactics, and they’re impossible to catch

    I’m not sure about playing AOS, but I’m going to give Spearhead a try first. But I do like the spooky bois and have some in my pile of potential.

    Gotten in 7 low points games (600 points to learn rules). The army (at that level) can feel oppressive. Stacked debuffs, no Rend, very swingy. But I think at higher points level it will level out.

    My first test game with nighthaunt I got to counter charge, zip through the unit that just charged me and chop up the buff hero standing behind them that just used their buffs on the now out of combat unit that charged.
    Nighthaunts are no joke.

    Question: So if you bring back half a unit, is that unit capped at that half number or could you cast Spectral Lure to bring back D6 more to get it back up to the original number?

      24.2 Replacement Units.
      As it is not the same unit but an identical one with its size altered, no you can not increase its size beyond what it was set up with.

    Cool army, but how many models are going to be in a typical nighthaunt force and how many times are you going to have to pick up and move each model? retreat and charge with 80 infantry every turn? :D

      As a Nighthaunt main, it's really not that bad. But movement trays help a lot if the movement bothers you.

      Retreating and charging is worse than staying in combat and charging. With the Retreat you could fail the charge and end up not being able to fight at all. Useful if you need to move quite a distance across the battlefield, but otherwise not necessary to move them and just leave them where they are.

      I like using magic interference to summon it on the opponents turn. They usually used all their spells so can't unbind it, and if I go next they don't get a chance to banish it before it takes a turn

    I don't like the coach. Evocation sounds cool, but you have to jump through so many hoops to make it happen. You have to be running a non-unique nighthaunt hero, that hero has to have already been destroyed, and then you have to destroy an enemy unit with your coach - and the coach does not have 'unit destroying' combat power. This is the sort of weird techy 'maybe it matters once ever 10 games' type ability that is really cool on a low cost infantry hero or undersized utility support unit, the kind of thing that's low cost to buy and low effort to assemble & paint & bring to games, so you can just try it for fun without investing too much into it. The Black coach is a massive centerpiece model that costs us$150 (god help you if you're in australia or new zealand), and is an absolute nightmare to assemble, paint, and transport to games. Fielding a Black Coach is an amount of effort on the players part equivalent to if not greater than fielding Nagash. It should be good in similarly blunt, obvious, and reliable ways, either hitting like a train or massively enhancing your army as a buff wagon.
    Even the battle formation really doesn't help. 5++ is a nice bonus, but it's not ~all that~ much better than the 6++ the army already has, AND it's available more easily from other sources AND wholly within 6" is just an obnoxiously small bubble to try and play within, just an unfun experience, and if you want to cover a decent number of units to justify burning your battle formation on it you'll really need at least /two/ black coaches, and now we're doubling down on over the top investment into a centerpiece model that doesn't even look as good you have the chorus line effect factored in.
    This is just entirely not the way this unit should have been designed.

    Dearest Rob, if I were to return a hero with the coach and it had a light shard and/or ruler of the spectral hosts, does the replacement also have these things? If so, if is used before, can I then use it again like it’s a new item?

    Only one complaint Lady O isn't 2 damage on her Staff of Midnight and lost her healing. But ehhh o think the battlepack is good. Mortis is still a meme.

    It took me a while to warm up to this faction pack, due to several changes I wanted to see that didn't happen (olynder as an ott faction leader on par with the other mortarchs, black coach either hitting like a train or being an amazing buff wagon or both as befits its massive size and shocking us$150 price tag, chainrasps base unit size 20 to fit their chaff role and distinguish them from combat units, big 3 combat units - revenants, harridans, and reapers - distinct enough to play meaningfully differently on the table, stalkers as an actually worthwhile unit). That's a long wishlist to suffer a zero percent hit rate.
    But once I had time to look at this faction pack for what it actually is and not what I wanted it to be, I have to admit that its actually really good. A couple dud units sure, maybe a bit too much redundancy & overlap, but even so several really good units and a bunch of truly excellent heroes, really solid faction rules and lores, tons of speed and maneuverability, hard hitting melee, lots of great buffs and debuffs. Just really good overall. I expect nighthaunt is going to be putting up a really strong showing out of the gate in 4e, easily the strongest they've been since their introduction in 2e.

    I feel Hexwraith Hoves and Teeth attacks are wrong. Why are the 3 and not 2. Most other similar sized Horse based units I have looked at are 2 attacks. Even the Black Coach is 8 attacks for 4 horses.
    Also from my one game with them Hexwraiths feel under pointed right now. Very strong. Or Ogors are very weak.

    I disagree with all his choices lol. I took the damage subfaction and the reaction item that does d3 mortals when fighting near him, and I was popping heroes left and right. It was awesome

    It physically pains me that the Chainghasts' shooting attacks don't critically auto wound like literally every other weapon in the army.
    I also feel like Spirit Torment is not worthwhile, even with them, but I don't think that the Torment is necessary for Gasts to be useful

    And compare those army buffa and no escape to soulblaight gravelords where half of traits are not usable or very situational, fighting nighhound is the most unfun experience, they do whatever the fck they want and dont give a damn what you do, being very survivale and spreading debuffa all around nerfing every unit to the ground, hate them.

    One thing though. The wave of terror can only be used once in your charge phase, right? So, not every unit can charge. Just one. It's a once per turn (army) ability. Quote from the core rules:
    "Some abilities that are used by units say Once Per Phase (Army), Once
    Per Turn (Army) or Once Per Battle (Army). These abilities can be used
    a maximum of one time in that phase, turn or battle regardless of the
    number of units in the army that can use the ability."

      It's "friendly Nighthaunt units" so each unit can do it once per turn.
      If it wasn't worded like this, Nighthaunt units could
      A: use Wave of Terror with counter-charging in the opponent's phase and
      B: charge several times in their own charge phase. Imagine Bladegheists charging a screen and then immediately charging again to hop over the screen to the next unit and so on until they're behind the furthest enemy unit back in their deployment zone.

      @@MuchoBe I disagree. Because the quote above is from the core rulebook and it explicitly says that once per turn (army) can be used one time in that phase total and not by each unit. Here is the complete quote:
      "28.2 ‘ONCE PER’ TIMINGS
      The timing part of some abilities says Once Per Phase, Once Per Turn or
      Once Per Battle. If the ability is used by a unit, it can be used a maximum
      of one time in that phase, turn or battle by each unit that can use the
      ability. If the ability is used by a player, it can be used a maximum of one
      time in that timing window by that player.
      Some abilities that are used by units say Once Per Phase (Army), Once
      Per Turn (Army) or Once Per Battle (Army). These abilities can be used
      a maximum of one time in that phase, turn or battle regardless of the
      number of units in the army that can use the ability"
      So if it is like you say, the ability would be Once per turn and not Once per turn (army). The nighthaunt ability is once per turn (army), so it's not each unit.

    Crossboos are great for chipping off a body or two to drop your opponent below the size of your charging unit so your infantry can Wave of Terror

    So if a NH unit is in combat with just 1 enemy unit. Can they roll a charge (minimum of 3), and then essentially not move but still veg the effects of aura of dread?

      Yes as you would charge the unit you're in combat with. Might as well use the charge move to fly over the unit and position yourself better even before piling in

    Hilarious that the Coach is finally REALLY solid, and yet the regiment system encourages you to bring 2 regs with 1 coach each. So now i need _another_ coach? Uggghhh. Just gonna double down on bladegheists or reapers i suppose.

    I think you're underestimating hunters of the accursed a bit. the best nighthaunt heroes have aura buffs or debuffs that will inevitably put them near the front lines, and the same is true for most other factions. Enemy heroes are going to be in range for the effect, and the extra pressure will be very helpful.
    Still not as good as death stalkers, mind. But a decent alternative for contrarian players who don't like to play the obvious best options everyone else is running.

      Disagree. Even just taking 3 NH heroes in a list is a disadvantage right out of the gate, then trying to keep them alive, which means not always charging in to apply strike-last, just for a chance at 2 or 3 mortals? Absolute garbage subfaction, especially compared to the old Emerald Curse.

    it's so silly to me that nighthaunt get army wide run and charge from a battle formation but slaanesh has to give the enemy free destiny dice. make it make sense.....

      NH has only one facet - charging. Slaanesh has far more depth in the roster, as we've even seen full-shooting lists be popular in the past. NH always needed this to feel like a complete army. Slaanesh didn't deserve the nerfs, but they have more areas they excel in as well.

    I really wish Nighthaunt didn't play like 40k daemons. Having an army wide rule that's just "Turn off this mechanic" is kinda lame, IMO.

    The army wide 4++ is terrible game design. It invalidates everyone else’s unit choices. It’s 1 game having fun whereas 15 other don’t get to play with their toy’s properly. I hate it so much, I elect not play against that army.
    Edit: most of their units are undercosted by about 50%. The way they are right now you could play them with a blank warscroll, just the raw stats, and still dominate.

      2+ saves want a word or mortal damage spam. The game is rock paper scissors and not everyone has a chance against every army

      Think you should look at the whole game and not get sad about 1 rule. There are a ton of units with 3+ save that can be buffed by a further +1 to save, 90% of the games rend stat is only 1, point being you can make units really tanky (yes these require casts, prayers, commands, but sometimes it only takes 1 buffed unit to push to swing a game) many armies have mortal wound spam, there are different tools in each army for different play, if your upset about 4+ un-rendable, just take mortal wound spam, or a few blocks of chaff that have 0 rend to tie them up. With AoS 4 it seems mobility > mortal wounds > survivability > damage output, so don't sweat it, just play smarter and not fixate.
