Art Blakey - Drums Walter Davis Jr. - Piano Reggie Workman - Bass Johnny Griffin - Tenor Saxophone Freddie Hubbard - Trumpet Curtis Fuller - Trombone Bop THAT !
Watch this video carefully, you will realise that after a solo by Walter Davis jnr, Freddie,Johny & Curtis wanted to play & Art changed the beat of drums & thats when they stopped & allowed Reggie Workmen to play his solo. This is what I call the art of music.
I can't help but sit here thinking Art Blakey probably played this song a million times, yet the smile at the end feels so authentic that you know he loved playing for people. There are other recordings of this song with less errors, but none with as much heart as this one has.
I Absolutely love this smooth jazz groove Moanin' what an epic, timeless classic! I can listen to it any day of the week by Art Blakey! Each horn player gets 2 minutes to shine! but my favorite. horn is that slide/trombone the 1 with swiss cheese cut though..nicety.👍👍✌
I began enjoying jazz after I watched the DVD of Blue note artists. It was my late father`s (May his soul rest in peace) DVD. Tenor Sax-Johny Griffin,Trumpet-Freddie Hubbard,Trombone-Curtis Fuller,Piano -Walter Davis jnr,Bass-Reggie Workman & on drums is my here, Art Blakey.
To randomperson 12o. That was not a mistake. It was very intentional. Griffin and many others use this in their solos. Hubbard's facial expression was one of approval.Like "yeah" baby!
He always did. Right up till hi death bed. A genuine hero of mine. Music that turns you on. Right up till the end with Joe Pass and Oscar Peterson. Still blowing his ass off. Once in a generation comes a man like Freddie. So glad to have met him musically.
Curtis is using a type of Soft Mute. It's a kind of bag with holes in to absorb some of the overtones and sharp edges of the sound. Also he almost drops his Trombone at @7:00 . Funny face :p
Wonderful video! Great version of a classic tune. Walter Davis looks like the happiest guy on the planet. Actually, all of the players are smiling throughout. Why not?
Art Blakey - Drums
Walter Davis Jr. - Piano
Reggie Workman - Bass
Johnny Griffin - Tenor Saxophone
Freddie Hubbard - Trumpet
Curtis Fuller - Trombone
Bop THAT !

Man, that Walter Davis Jr. Is always smiling, thats awesome
nicer than those metal drummers and so-called guitar heroes looking like they were tortured or condemned to hard labour.
Quién oiga esto y no se entere ! No se entera, pero se puede enterar!
Oh, my spirit is in the clouds, no, I'm not dead, it's this jazz taking me high! 🎷🥁🎺

I love when Freddie looks at Griffin funny when he plays that low note at 4:38 LoL Great stuff
Too much Moanin' is never enough. Top jazz, peak joy.

3:07 the timing around the top of the last section here is fascinating, 5:05 very behind the beat feel.
Love how Freddie moves his head around so much and it doesn't change his sound at all.
hahah cant stop laughing at @4:38 Freddie Hubbard's face is the best reaction to a note i've seen in a while
Matias B. Hahaha that’s awesome
Priceless. The entire song is priceless, but yeah, Hubbard’s reaction is infinitely moreso.
Indeed, hilarious! Might have thought it was a fart :)
2:50 What about his gulping for air?
This is the pure form of jazz.OMG!!!!
It's a beret with holes cut into it. Curtis told me himself.
The classic old days,oh i love those times, those girls & the music.

Simply spectacular and enthralling rhythm section supporting all brass and piano solos!
At 5:13 Curtis quotes Work Song.
1:47 love the displaced triplet polyrhythm in the piano comping.

8:50. Did the horn section forget Reggie Workman had a solo?
This is a masterpiece.
Pure octane for the soul!

Otto Link Super Tone Master on Griffin´s horn

Curtis is using a type of Soft Mute. It's a kind of bag with holes in to absorb some of the overtones and sharp edges of the sound.

WOW THIS IS GOOD
Awesome
Whenever freddie plays and is really diggin into what he's playing, it looks like he is eating a really good sandwhich.
spettacolare! straordinario ! .. no more comments
Props to Curtis Fuller for playing through that accident in the Swiss cheese shop earlier in the day.
Its that a otto link stm right????
Wonderful video! Great version of a classic tune. Walter Davis looks like the happiest guy on the planet. Actually, all of the players are smiling throughout. Why not?
Was that a "hit the road, jack" quote on trombone? :-D
At 2:55 Art Blakely has made it somewhere most of us will never go....
The original playing is the best one. I have it.
R.I.P. Curtis Fuller...
👏🏾👏🏾
Why do they sound a bit out of tune at the beginning? Is that how trumpets normally sound live?
The thing on the trombone muffles the sound slightly so it sounds better.
Anji Knutsen no its so to not bang @ the microphone
@@FCntertainr ...False!
Big thanks love it.
Wow..... To think I'm listening to Jazz after watching a anime show called " Kids on the Slope," which is a really good anime that recommend :D

Me too
What´s that thing on the trombone bell?
Exactly why not :-)
Wow...listen to the short raw entrance of the Johnny Griffin solo. I would really be the one who did it on stage..........
Walter Davis Jr. is the happiest piano player alive.

Walter Davis, shades of the monk?
But really, what is that thing on Curtis's trombone?
Kids on the slope..... uh yeah.... Sentaro!!
all of these guys have the fattest smiles on their faces
Its called a mute...it is supposed to mute the tone!
Not a weak link in this whole "freakin" chain. Oops, there it is.
Hur bra som helst
I don't think Walter Davis Jr. has a sad face.
@Finkldorkin ROFL you are so right but that is to hilarious
Thanks, I should know that. my little sister used to play the trombone. I tried it - once.
Cool a f
An old shower curtain he cut up and placed over his bell. LOL!!!
On the solo parts the guys almost forgot to give Reggie his turn..lol.
it looks like blakey is giving god the "check this shit out" face
But Hubbard found a way to make it fresh....
it's a rubber for an elephant!
