A decade ago, they raised the old Santa Fe Railway station 5 feet (after the last series of Mississippi River floods), seen at 6:00 in this video. Money ($$) has been reason for multiple delays (contractors bidding DOUBLE engineering estimates). Work on Water Drainage, under the future platform, started Autumn 2020. The Final step of building passenger platform, long enough for the Southwest Chief, began in Spring 2021. September 8, 2021 is announced date for Amtrak service to return to the historic Ft. Madison Santa Fe station.
