Two incredible women who are role models for all Canadians. Fluently trilingual, inordinately talented, highly articulate, beautifully poised...Canadian treasures!
I can’t believe how well they spoke in different languages at the press conference especially Bianca who was the first time doing it. It reflected they were raised and educated by a humble family with lots of love. They can be the Ambassador for Tennis Canada.
Huge respect for these two amazingly talented and articulate young women. Role models for young tennis players and proud ambassadors for Canadian sports 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Hats off to sisters Leylah and Bianca for speaking 3 languages but it's "not unreal" because both were born in Montreal which is French speaking and English is a second language. The father is Ecuadorian and must have taught them to speak Spanish at home and in the Spanish speaking community of Montreal.
Jóvenes inteligentes, cultas, talentosas. Grandes seres humanas y atletas. Felicitaciones a quienes han intervenido en su desarrollo, especialmente su familia!
Wow! The future for Tennis Canada is so bright. Would have been awesome if the whole interview was in Spanish and French! 😆 And if the press threw in a question in Tagalog that would have been SO GOOD! 😃
Unfortunately, both sisters don't speak Tagalog as they identify more of Spanish speaking family due to their Ecuadorian father. I remember Diane Castillejo (ANC) approaching the mother in one of the matches during last year's U.S. Open, and Diane simply received a cold reception from the mother who is, of course, Canadian of Filipino heritage. Leylah's recollection of her Filipino heritage is simply the food her grandparents cooked like adobo and pansit! Tbh, both sisters look very Ilocano or Waray as one grandparent, I believe, is from Ilocos and the other is from Leyte.
Is this a post-match conference or test of proficiency in 3 languages? Proves it’s possible to be articulate in all. Now add Filipino to complete your 4 “sweep”.😍
reply in 3 languages so fluently both of them. huge respect.. such a great percentage of people today cannot speak so fluently in mother language plus other two including me, that fluent i can get at max two
8:45 The best question of the interview: What is the best quality each of you possesses as a doubles partner and as a sister as well, away from the tennis court? Their answers told and showed us so much about them and their sibling relationship with one another.
That's so Amazing they can speak three language , I hope they can speak Tagalo as well since its their mother tongue ? so they can speak four languages fluently
Wow, fluent in 3 languages! And a possible 4th one, though I could not really guess for sure which since I do not know which part of the islands one of the parents came from. Could thus be Pilipino or tagalog, or bisayan, or Ilokano? Or any of a 100 dialects?
Talented sisters with great up bringing from parents. Like to welcome Bianca to WTA and hope baby sis matures to be a contender in professional tennis. Viva!
insane they could speak english spanish and french all three languages fluently... if they retire or don't wanna play tennis they could easily find other ways for living
Bianca is ranked 888 in the world rankings. She better show a lot of progress in the next year or she will be irrelevant in the tennis world. That would be a shame because both her and her sister are so impressive as people.
If only being able to speak multiple languages could help do something like.....win tennis matches. Let them learn the most complex language on the planet, Chinese. I know of a superior tennis player who speaks it fluently. And ever since she spoke it in front of a crowd, Leylah here has been like "hEy We KnOw LaNgUaGeS tOo!".

Just 2 incredible human beings. A big big credit to both of their parents!!! You’ve raised 2 incredible role models for young Canadians!!!

No tagalog unfortunately. French and Spanish are their mother tongues as they grew up in Montreal.
