With the upcoming release of Robert Eggers 'Nosferatu' I wanted to make a video discussing what we've seen of Count Orlok so far... #Nosferatu #CountOrlok #BillSkarsgard #RobertEggers
Just got out of the film, it is truly remarkable. A proper Hungarian Hussar look to the creature. I love it. So much symbolism and beauty to this film.
Count Orlok was just about the best part of the film. Everything about their interpretation seemed fresh, scary, and reasonably faithful to the source material. Bill Skarsgaard was impressive, and unrecognizable. (I wish I could say the same for the rest of the cast… whose scenes were often tedious to sit through).
I honestly cannot wait for this movie. The lack of appearance reminds me of Nicholas Cage on the lead up to Longlegs and them choosing to not show him. It is a good marketing strategy, that I hope more directors choose to do.
Totally agree. The biggest mistakes that horror trailers make these days is either show the whole movie in 2 minuets or less, or the monster / creature is revealed. The decision to keep Bill Skarsgård as Count Orlok hidden or remain in the shadows is perfect. All this does is make the viewer eager to see the film even more.
Absolutly...normaly its a crime on movies to watch the trailer and have the suspense...but sometimes im not strong enough. We shoudnt wonder when we found the movie bad after watching. However do u know what i did tonight; there is a 4k quality of the 1922 original of this movie here on TH-cam....are we have a Date?
The late snooker legend , Willie Thorne was used as Count Orlok after Robert Eggers saw Thorne performing trick shots at Butlins in Minehead in 1993. Such was his horror at Thorne's appearance and demeanor that a young Eggers vowed to make a film about his life.
I think Eggers was merely adapting the description of Dracula Stoker relays when Harker first meets him at the castle. Obviously, Nosferatu is Dracula, no way around it. So between the Herzog adaption, and this current one there's stronger attempts to go back to the novel, and create something that feels closest to the novel while also maintaing some of the changes the silent film had made. On the other hand, since all adaptations of Nosferatu are set before the events of Dracula, you can just surmise this is the same demon, changing its name and appearance throughout time. Seemingly being vanquished only to return
You really do have to do something different here. The idea of him just pretending to be alive has always been a part of the appeal of Orlock, but him still trying to maintain his facial hair and clothes is so human
I’m so looking forward to this movie. I was disappointed at the Voyage of the Demeter last year. The reviews have been so over the top with many praising superlatives that I hope it lives up to that.
Robert eggers is by far the greatest director of tgis generation. There isnt a singal bad film. And love his fairy tale kind of look of his films.the wich the northman and lighthouse are all great movies and its refreshing that he dosent kneel to the woke mob and liberal studios. The northman he had to fight with the studio cause there was no gay lgbt people and black people calling it racists calling him a racist biggot. He said back he is recreating the past.there is no black people in ancient vikings.just look at the vikings vallalha show now the king is no joke a black woman who they gave her a real vikings kings name. Its like casting Brad pitt as martin lutheir king.Thisv was a huge blowback by nowegians and sweeds. They said it was a mockery to give an accurate real character as a black lady.ad she wasnt tge only one.nost likely vikings never even seen africans.idk but people sre pissed
Honestly, I like Orlok’s design in this movie, I don’t mind that he has some hair. Judging from one still from the first trailer, the back of his head appears rotten. I also like that he wears a fur cloak, which reminds me of a bat.
I really can't wait to see his appearance. I do really like the idea of finally seeing a vampire who is true to the folklore and who is in a sense a reanimated corpse.
@@jeremiahjohnsen1711 The video was only focusing on Bill Skarsgard as Count Orlok, and what we've seen of him so far. But that being said I'm really excited to see what Willem Dafoe can bring to the film, I'm so glad he's apart of Robert Eggers Nosferatu. I loved his performance as Count Orlok in Shadow Of The Vampire.
@@jeremiahjohnsen1711 I accidentally misread your comment. You're absolutely right. Willem Dafoe as Max Schreck / Count Orlok was amazing in Shadow Of The Vampire. Speaking of that movie, Shadow Of The Vampire is my next film review. 👍
If they decide to make again another movie of Jack the reaper I want Robert eggers to be the director and once again bill skarsagard will don the character
I think, any deviation from the iconic Orlok look, is Always going to be controversial. I really hope he hasn't strayed too far, as Shrek's look was what made the original so memorable. Apparently, this new Orlok has a mustache 😬
historically accurate noble, since Prinicipality of Transylvania was part of Hungarian kingdom in 16th century. Keep in mind Gary Oldman also did in Dracula.
@@dillonrs2631 Orlok didn't. Arguably the creepiest vampire design ever put to film. I don't know, guess we'll see. I mean, Drac has many forms, so it worked with Oldman, but if Orlok is constantly rocking a handlebar, seems a bit weird.
@@heroicjourney2508 Dracula is an old dude with white hair and a mustache in the novel so I’m fine with it. As long as he’s balding/almost completely bald then it’s still nosferatu to me lol.
@@heroicjourney2508 think of it like this… count orlock was meant to resemble a rat signaling his being the bringer of plague and pestilence over the town of Wisborg. rats have whiskers. and this is basically a historically accurate orlock which i find actually really interesting.
@@samspencer582 From what we've seen in the trailer he does seem to. Although he might only have a little hair as he's more frail and "dead" in this version of the film. I seriously can't wait to see the film!
I've heard good things about Bill Skarsgård as Count Orlok and as I said in the video, I'm totally fine with the change because the original has been recreated many times already.
@@markheskin7154 In Bram Stoker's novel Dracula has a thick mustache. That isn't well-known to those who haven't read it, and can only visualize him as Bela Lugosi or Christopher Lee (although the latter did have a mustache in one of his movie portayals).
@@JB-gt5no We can all wonder. The BBC / Netflix Dracula series kinda of touched upon this topic. When we first see Dracula he's an old man who speaks in a Romanian accent. SPOILERS AHEAD! The more blood Dracula consumes from Johnathan Harker not only does the Count become younger but his accent changes too. He begins to talk with a British accent. They also touched up on this in episode 2. When Dracula is aboard The Demeter, he's speaking to a German woman and says "Forgive me. My German is very rusty. Would you excuse me for a moment?" He then kills a crew member of the Demeter and when he returns to have a conversation with the woman he's speaking German. I think this particular series is great, episodes 1&2 are really entertaining but episode 3 had mixed reviews however, but I really enjoyed the series.
@Gromlak-The-Strange show to me any hungarian noblemen that doesn't have a mustache, I'll wait. Mustache is the sign ob nobility back in 16th century, so the Luigi comment is not funny in the slightest way, it makes you look uncultured
@ no I understand entirely why they put the mustache but it still looks dumb as hell. Same with the giant ass forehead. You can understand the reasoning behind a design and still see it makes logical sense yet looks dumb as hell

He looks like Billy Corgan 🤔

Maybe he wears the Hungarian half-shaved hairstyle of the 16-17th Centuries. Only the hair above the forehead was left long.
I'm not gonna lie I'm sad they changed the design of the vampire, he has such an iconic look in the original film. A horrifying look as well.

I would have preferred if the movie showcased the actor. I heard Orlok is used in the movie practically as a prop. Reminds me of the Nun actually.

Completely untrue. There is no prop. Orlok is protested by an actor the entire movie.
