      It’s one of the weirdest things I’ve ever seen because of the age of it cuz really think about it’s what 99 years old look at what they are wearing and how they have horses instead of cars and the houses and furniture looks all weird not to mention everybody in this movie are all dead witch adds on to the weirdness witch is why it’s so scary in my opinion

      @@unbidmuffin To me there is only one remake, the 1979 one.
      The 2000 movie wasn't much of a remake, more like a tribute.
      Also Vampire in Venice isn't what I'd call a remake.
      And as for now there is a new remake of the original planned, let's see what that's all about.

    This film is so otherworldly... The altered character names really makes it seem like its from another world, and Max Shreck's performance is haunting. It was so convincing that people actually rumoured him to be a real vampire. Also the Orava caslte, location where they filmed the first half of the movie, is said to be haunted. Those details added with the fact that almost all of the copies of the movie were destroyed because of copyrights, makes this masterpiece seem like an evil entity, refusing to cease even if it's objectors wanted It to... Like a vampire.

    Someone can find this film boring, but *"Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror"* 1922 is a classic of horror films and German expressionism, which at one time was able to make a strong impression on the audience, from which the blood ran cold. This was the cinema. There is no color, no sound, only black and white tones, accompanied by a grim and melancholic melody, which gives the film its charm, and also enhances atmosphere of mysticism, fear and evil in silent forests of Transylvania. But the highlight of this film is Count Orlok himself. Max Schrek performance is very far from Bram Stoker's Dracula. Despite connection with the original source, Nosferatu is rather a reinterpretation of Dracula, which makes you think about the nature of vampirism. This is not a majestic commander, not a prince of darkness from novel. Nosferatu more means disease and here Count Orlok is represented as a host of an unknown and dangerous plague, doomed to eternal life and loneliness. The curse has disfigured his human side, turning him into a bloodthirsty creature. It is also worth noting the image of Orlok and he is very unique. His look causes horror and disgust: unnaturally long fingers ending with sharp claws, bared sharp teeth like a bat, gnarled nose, splayed ears, empty and lifeless eyes. Considering how Murnau competently handles shadow in the film, not only the vampire scares, but also his silhouette. Nosferatu deserves attention as one of the most frightening vampires of cinema!

    • @gunterangel
      @gunterangel ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This movie had a ridiculously small budget and film crew.
      Max Schreck, the actor playing Count Orlok, actually had provided his own make-up design for the movie.
      He was a prolific stage actor, known particularly for his portrayals of somehow eerie characters and social outsiders.
      At that time most theatres in Germany hadn't professional costume or make-up designers yet.
      These were still things stage- and movie actors would do all by themselves.
      Only around the thirties of the last century doing make-ups became a profession on its own in the theatre and movie world.
      There is a little docu clip from 1930 here on YT, where famous British character actor, Charles Laughton, gives a little demonstration in front of a theatre mirror, how he transforms himself in an Italian mafiosi, doing all the make-up by himself.
      Only a few years later, this would become already old-fashioned for actors, because then there were already professional make-up artists around, who at that first pioneering time quite often had an acting background themselves.
      So really all the credit for this movie character and his iconic apperarance goes to Max Schreck himself and no other possible make-up artist or costume designer. 6:51

    To me this is the scariest movie I've ever seen. The movie works as a terrific gothic movie and has inspired not just vampire movies but all types of horror. The movie feels like a long dream that at first is nice but turns into a nightmare and doesn't let up. I watched it when I was 12 and its stuck with me ever since.
    If anyone want to see anything "newish" for Nosferatu there is a 1979 remake and Shadow of the Vampire which tells a fictionalized story about if F.W. Murnau hired a real vampire for the role of Count Orlok/Nosferatu which was released in 2000. I recommend both if you enjoyed the 1922 movie.

  • @LOL_Garrus
    @LOL_Garrus 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Horror movies today tend to favor jump-scares and gore over atmosphere and creepiness. A lot of modern horror movies just don't have that subtlety, a combination of atmosphere, creepiness, and musical score that create a lasting impression. Nosferatu, especially Max Schreck, captures all three brilliantly.
    Count Orlok won't jump out and scare you. His brand of horror is unnerving, unnatural. Something that will stick by and haunt you. As if the environment around you is dead.
    A lack of movement indicates death. And Count Orlok's subtle movement invokes that feeling among the person watching.

      Most frightening Movie scene is for me Resident Evil 1 (2002) Laser Scene.
      I literally watched every Horror Movie and that Laser scene fucked me most up at night.

    It's crazy to consider there could be an alternate reality where this film is considered fully lost and the holy grail of lost media, because the copies were supposed to be destroyed.
    And yet, here we are watching it on TH-cam.

    Fun fact, because his performance was so perfect and him having "terror" in his name, people thought that Max Shreck was a vampire in real life!

  • @ColonelMarcellus

    This is the most realistic vampire film I've ever seen. Even though the film emulsion wasn't perfect, the arc lighting was a little inconsistent, and the facial expressions were exaggerated (because there was no audible dialog), it's still the best one ever made. The fact that I got a crush on Greta Schroeder has, of course, nothing to do with my liking and respect for this great work.

    I will never believe that Max Schreck was just an actor, I truly believe he was a real vampire. There's no way he could have played it so well. When I first saw this movie I was very young and I was scared to death watching this, I had nightmares ever since because of this movie. Nosferatu is the scariest vampire ever!
