  • Sears tractors that were made in the '60's and '70' were built very rugged and many have lasted over 30 years! Sears can not provide parts for the tractors any more, so people like Don hand fabricate and substitute parts from other tractors or auto parts. I have such an appreciation for rugged machines like this and the people who have a passion for restoring them.

Those tractors were built by Roper. I have a 79 Roper and a 79 Sears. Identical tractors both with Onan 18 hp engines. I've been using the Roper here in Michigan since 1986 for mowing and plowing snow. Still runs great. Bought the Sears a few years ago and just bought a rear rototiller last year.

That's awesome, good to hear there's people out there with these tractors still running and running good. A well made rugged machine and an owner like you, who takes care of their machine, is a testament to how long a machine or tool can last. Thanks for watch'n and keep up the hard work.

I've always wanted a restored GT18 or SS16. They're nice looking tractors. I have several Sears tractors, one restored. Maybe someday I'll get one of those lol

Hello. Pretty neat video. I have a 78 I think it is, GT 19.9 I bought a few years ago. It has the set up for the electric rear lift, though it is missing the cylinder part. It ran when I got it, but it has been sitting. I think there was a charging issue with it, and I know the tube from the air filter housing to the carb has a tear in it, and I didn't want to run dirt through it by running it.
In your video you said that gentleman restores these tractors.... I am wondering if he would be interested in restoring this one for me? I of course have money, or we could work out a trade for other tractors I have. I have several Bolens tractors and Some more Sears tractors, but nothing as large as the one I would like to get restored.
Please let me know. Thank you, Wade.

Hi Wade, the guy who restores no longer can due to health reasons unfortunately.. charging issue can be the rectifier or even a bad ignition switch in my case!
