He soffer from dementia because he acted in real life...he never was himself i can see it right here. He put on this shield to seems thought but he is a gentle and sensible soul. Reaching a certain age that acting didnt work anymore with himself because he didnt express what he really was...soo he lost control gradually....he became mad. This is my opinion.
