Funny, I felt like doing a mercenary run yesterday and opted for Urbino, for a change. Not nearly as good as Switzerland, but still fun with some good mercenary ideas, and they're a monarchy.
@@CoolBonobo i saw some video from thestudent about it. But he didnt show the way to do it ;) marines could have 10% discipline but got no idea if its achievable..
While I was playing switzerland I was like "How can I be strong with a nation like this which starts with bad economy, mountains everwhere so it is harder to develop, and it is next to France and Austria which are really strong" oooh boy I was clueless. after 40-50 years a 20 country coalition declared on me and it was like 40k vs 120k troops. I used my money on mercenaries and WOW, my mercs stackwiped everything. I felt like a spacemarine or something hahah. Switzerlands makes you feel like you are invincible man I recommend everyone to play it.
Unlike Discipline, Mercenary Discipline isn't a multiplicator for military tactics. This makes both mercenary dìscipline and the mercenary idea group essentially useless unfortunately. Still swiss ideas and missions are nice and mercs are a near unlimited manpower pool, howeveer the swiss and prussian militarizations are not even remotely comparable for those reasons.
@@kmonsen Oh thanks, I read up on it, yup. Was changed in 1.36. Gonna do some playtesting now with custom nations to see how it scales. If it's multiplicative with normal disc. then this would be beyond busted.
That's a bit of clickbait, but not far fetched. I don't know how Merc maintenance is calculated, but it's not just 250 - 100. I tested it, and mercenaries are more than 4 times cheaper than the same amount of regular units
Merc maintenance and the maintenance increase compared to regulars are calculated differently. Having 100% reduction doesn’t mean 250%-100%, it means that “250%” gets removed. If it is capped at 90% maintenance reduction, than the merc cost would be 25%, which is only 1/4 of regular troops maintenance
It works the same as with advisor cost reduction. Advisors get more expensive as time goes on, but advisor cost reduction is applied to the total cost not the base cost
25:17 I audibly exclaimed "what the fuck" as a 142/67 army forcelimit was costing only 35 ducats per month wtf, is this the gameplay intended by Paradox?
The mercenary manpower is the most powerful modifier, since money is plentiful by the mid-game. Infinite manpower is what makes a viable strategy of what would otherwise be a trick to use once or twice in a deathwar
We must ensure the safety of our Swiss children.
Billions must Swissanize
What about starting as Venice, finish the mercenary mission and then forming Switzerland?

Bonobo waiting for you to do a buffed marines run ;) portugal- netherlands-great britain? Or norway japan oman in consideration ;)
Reading minds, I literally have idea about using sailors as manpower replacement written down

That was an absolutely hilarious war you fought at the end.

@@xXdnerstxleXx and did you test it ?
i believe merc mainentence -100% shouldnt make the cost 0 because mercs are listed at 250%
