I travelled this road in 1997 with my wife. Loved Ouray, thru to Ridgway and SS West to Placerville, Dolores, Cortez into Mesa Verde to camp. The most amazing scenery we had ever experienced. Love the South West.

AMEN. I am not a trucker, but, I APPRECIATE them. People must remember, give them a break. Pay attention to their turn signals and let them have your lane.....Most of all, DO NOT hit your brakes hard when a trucker is behind you. Trucks CANNOT stop like cars.......I taught all these "rules" to my kids when they were learning to drive.

Thank you for your videos. My dad wanted to go to Colorado especially for this area and he had me drive - I had never driven in the mountains, we live in Oklahoma. Driving this highway was beyond scary. I couldn't have done it if he hadn't been next to me saying you can do it, you can do it,It made him so happy to see this part of Colorado, he was killed on a tractor two years later; I am so happy I was able to do that for him.
Now, thanks to you I finally get to see what I drove through. Even after all these years, I can close my eyes and see those hairpin curves.

Appreciate your service...but on such a beautiful Hwy, I’d hate to see the back of a truck, even if going the speed limit. And I’m from Texas and pull to the shoulder anytime I’m holding up traffic. But sat here watching you drive for several hours. Like the banter, like the tips and hints, like the temps & mph ‘s and the beauty of the road....even though I puckered upon occasion.😊

I live in Colorado and spend time in the San Juan Mountains and Ridgway State Park a couple times a year. This video is a classic, make no mistake, but you need C. W. McCall playing in the cab for a soundtrack. Don't worry about the cars behind you because they are better off for slowing down and taking in the scenery. The traffic runs in clumps all day long. This is where John Wayne filmed True Grit and other movies, so you're not that far from Hollywood.

Thank you for sharing. I remember riding with Dad & Mom in the middle of the winter. Dad worked in Silverton year around for several years. We lived in Fruita, Co. Great Grandpa & Grandpa helped build the Million Dollar Highway. Got the semi stuck in the tunnel once. Had to let air out of the tires to get unstuck. Grandpa used to drive from Grand Junction to White Sands during WWII. He got a special award for helping during WWII.

FINALLY, FINALLY, we have an 'on the road' video that isn't time lapse. This is so refreshing to see. Some on the road videos are sped up so fast you can't see the scenery. You are one heck of a driver/video creator. It is a pleasure to watch this video, I'm really enjoying this experience. I'll definitely check out your other videos.

Your comment is so on point and I agree totally with what you say. It is like we are in the truck with him in the passenger seat. That is the mark of a truly great video creator. I've seen a few good ones in the virtual trucking aspect playing American Truck Simulator, but Riding Shotgun is the best that I've seen of IRL truckers OTR videos..

I have 40 years experience driving canadian rockies, but I would sure love to try those hairpin turns you have! Man you've got my 40 years beat dude. Yes I use to always practise my skills, like where my trailer follows if I'm turning this much, or any skill. Just makes me a better driver, takes practise like a fiddle. Now I'm retired just over 60, I use to read the road and know where my tires get the best traction in the snow. Love how you handle the road, stay safe brother and keep them coming.

Thanks a lot, I can live my dream through your eyes, I love this type of scenery a lot, I so much wanted to become long haul truck driver, then on my 18th birthday 22 yrs ago (yes I turned 40 on june 27), right when I was to begin driving lessons, I've learned that because of my eyes, I would never ever have a driving license for even a basic car, I so much wanted to die when I realized that my biggest dream was crushed and that I would never be in a truck driving seat. I'm far from blind, but I don't see correctly on the sides, I could have a driving license for a scooter or anything that won't go faster than 37mph, but I've decided against it, I wouldn't feel safe on the road. At least, I can drive all the virtual trucks I want in American Truck Simulator and Euro-Truck Simulator 2 on truckersmp.com

While performing tech services during the relining of the Bear Creek Tunnel I was parked on the left side at approximately 26:45 when a semi with flatbed trailers loaded with sod lost his brakes coming down the grade. the driver undid his seat belt and put his rig into the side of the rocks rather then go over the high side. I ran over to the cab and pulled him down and had to force him to lie
Down. He was beat up from bouncing around in the cab and went into shock. The aid vehicle arrived very fast and he was brought
Around quickly. I believe the quick response saved his life. The relining of the tunnel with waterproof shotcrete was done to prevent leaks.

No plows had been out. Took me literally 3:45 minutes to make the pass into ouray. Definitely made my no return list. Btw I was in a 2016 kw t680 10speed. Pulling a 53foot spread axle. Trucking companies are going out of business because of high insurance costs. People that sue trucking companies have been awarded in excess of $10 million. Mike, use your senior position at Quality Logistics to propose that trucking companies get lobbyists to encourage Congress to put a cap of $1 million on any lawsuit against any trucking company. People driving trucks have unintentional accidents and should not have to pay excessive insurance that bankrupts the company.

Mike, thanks for the memories. I lived in Ouray for 30 years until 2008. Of course it's changed a lot since I first got there on my motorcycle. I am now at 83, a very happy old lady with lots of good memories.

I’m glad we are able to ride along with you but some of the crooks and treacherous roads was about scare the crap out of me. Truckers that drive into these areas need top pay! Great video!

Easy to see why it's called Million Dollar Hwy! I hitched along here in the mid-70s and enjoyed every Mile
