Love watching you drive, Mountain Man! I listen to your teachings and keep them in mind when I drive. And you always drive through the most Beautiful Country. Thank You for showing us the Awesomeness of this country. We may have a lot of political mess going on but the nature part of the United States makes me glad to be here and wouldn't want to live anywhere else in the world!

Thank you for being on youtube. I enjoy riding shotgun. My dad and uncles and late husband drove truck, I went along sometimes. My daughters grew up and moved out and we were supposed to go on the road but he passed away before we could fulfill that dream. So I will just ride along with you. Be safe! Love Utah, a story I always tell was the time I broke through heavy fog on top of Soldier Summit at 2am.
It was so clear and bright from the Full moon overhead that the snow was literally glowing and sparkling.
    It was surreal.

Mike I enjoy your videos so much you get to see what truck drivers do every day in all kinds of different weather, my name is Steven I’m a retired truck driver of 45 years I drove tri axle dump trucks all year round I was local I’m from south west Pennsylvania so I drove in snow ice conditions, I learned to drive with patience in nasty weather cut back 5 to 10 miles per hour in snow I always felt a loaded truck was better than a empty truck. Just wanted to share that with you. Keep up with the good videos. Be safe and God Bless you and your family.

Nice to see you posting new vids again man! Even though this was taken back on Dec 30, 2022. As always stay calm & safe control anywhere on the US roadways, so we could see move new vids from you. Hopefully something more recent like yesterday or a week ago. Yeah I missed driving the Interstate highways and junctions into the back country roads as some would call it middle of nowhere. Which is the perfect place to drive on with cruise control On non-stop!

Can't tell you how many times I drove Hwy 6 when I lived off Hwy 10. Soldier Summit can be a beautiful drive but it can also be nasty in winter. Then at one time I would drive from work in SLC and drive to teach a class in Price, then back up Soldier Summit and take the road down to Duchesne for the weekend in Roosevelt. It was fun actually. On Sunday I'd drive home on Hwy 40 back to Magna. Work all week and do it all again the next weekend. I loved the drive.

Great video man! Awesome attention to the FEEL of the road and the unit! Most times I’m crushing the speed limit too… once you feel that little nudge here or there ease off let the truck correct itself.. and ALWAYS approach any curve a little softer with the plan that a slide is possible, ESPECIALLY curves with dropoffs! Safe travels bro!!!!!🚀

Neat video. I gave a really long winded rundown in your old Siskiyou Summit video but I just drove up Soldier Summit northbound on 9/5/23, excellent weather. What impressed me most was the railroad and how it seemed to keep up with the road in that little canyon for so long - it’s well known as a VERY difficult climb in railroading and has been for more than a century. Indeed, that’s where Helper gets its name - from the helper engines used to shove trains up and over the summit.
Another neat quirk is how the camera ‘flattens’ the view goin downhill - it sure felt steep going up. The RR grade is 2.4% for 15 miles, not sure about the highway but I’d guess 5-6%. At any rate you start several hundred feet below the RR then eventually exit the canyon several hundred feet above the RR.
As you said, staying calm and driving smooth is key in snow - I’ve driven in the Ozark Mountains in as much as 2 feet of snow in a wretched VW wabbit of all things, and even ridden my Kawasaki ZRX1100 to and from work in several inches of snow - it’s hairy AF but it can be done.

36:40 You can see seams of black coal in the cut. On the left side approaching, down in the valley, until somewhat recently existed coal mines and just after this cut, on the left, was a large coal-fired electrical power generating plant. That's all been removed and scarcely a trace. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_Power_Plant

Standard pallet, depending on nails, and type of wood used, go between 22.5 and 25.5 lb. Chep pallets, same disclaimer, 30.5 to 35.
Usually if im loaded with them front to back, and to the roof, it usually rings in at 27,500, give or take the above parameters.

Here it is June 2023, and we get to watch a new snow driving video, from Dec. 2022. A great video.
I have 77 hours of flying time. I completed all my flying requirements and tests. All I needed was to take the written tests. At that point, I lost my great paying job, which meant flying wasn't affordable. So I didn't take the written test.
I flew Piper Cherokees and Dakota 2 aircraft. From 1978 thru 1981. My flying time was limited, as I traveled 6 states. All driving.
So, I know a few things about flying. But, all the rules have been added to and updated. I flew VFR. Visual Flight Rules. Nothing above the clouds. Ground references were used. I miss it. Thanks for mentioning flying.

I work at a lumber yard.... pallets are hardly ever the same weight when they come through here. There are some that are super light at less than 15lbs.... and others that way upwards of 30.... I'd say on average ours usually weigh about 20-25. How they are constructed plays a big role in their weight as well... the ones designed to support more weight (ie: palleted concrete shipments) they will have more reinforced slats/supports, and those will weigh 30+....
