I think you should live in the house you own! Put money up and invest! One day you will be rich and not have to worry anymore. Don't keep buying more, one day it may not be the bomb like it is today and you'll be happy you saved!

How do you know I haven't been saving? I have a house and a shop worth $120K paid off. All my credit cards are paid off. If things ever aren't "the bomb" I have a dealership, house, land, shop, tools, and cars all paid for in cash. I'm doing very very well.

Actually a lot of people prefer to have a manual top with those cars because the automatic convertible tops can become very problematic on German cars! I believe it was optional on that generation. A & M is a manual tip tronco mode. If you put it in M you can shift it manually with gears 1-3. A is for automatic

The tires you got are good. OHTSU tires are not Chinese tires made out of discarded plastic bottles. They are the low line tires made by the giant Japanese tire company Sumitomo group (that makes Falken), and is sold through discount vendors like Walmart.

Btw Randy, if you have any specific BMW questions here’s a couple of very good resources for you. The first one is Erjon Karaj, who I’m sure you know from Hoovie’s garage as Jonny the car ninja of German Motorworks. He actually just recently started his own TH-cam channel and it’s called Car Ninja in case you didn’t already know that. Another good BMW resource is Sreten and he also has a TH-cam channel called M539 restorations which you may have also seen or heard of. He’s actually Serbian but he currently lives in Frankfurt Germany and he is an absolute riot to watch every time. He has a wide variety fleet of BMWs that he has resurrected and it’s getting bigger and bigger each time, and he knows a lot an those cars as well. So definitely reach out to them if you have any BMW or Mini Cooper related questions. I think there were a couple Rolls-Royce and Land Rovers that were also BMW products. I forget which ones specifically but they can probably tell you that as well if you’re ever in the market for any one of those. Hope that helps!

I had a 99 3-series sedan custom ordered NEW back in the days. Totally trimmed out, manual, RWD, adaptive headlights even back than. Car made it to the states and then the dealer came back demanding my Audi as a trade, PLUS 5K not disclosed when I put down my deposit. Upside, they loaned me another sedan for a month 'just because' and I sure *enjoyed* that during a MN winter.. HECK of a fun platform. I'd keep it around if it weren't for Winter coming soon.

I have spent 40 odd years trash talking BMW's, but just bought a 94 325ci for a little fun car to keep at the cabin in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Most fun driving car I've had in years. Perfect for taking in the aspen before I left it behind for the winter and came back to Texas. Easy to work on, I put an all aluminum radiator in mine as the cooling system is their Achilles heel. Paid $3,000 more. Well done, sir. It looks like it has had repair to the front end. Night side views look as if the wheel liners are missing and the area around the wheels are illuminated. Could explain the air not working if the evaporator was damaged and not fixed, as well as the radiator being worked on. Enjoy it. I am thinking about getting another one. Have to sell the 05 VW Phaeton 4 seater first.

Let me know how you make out on the windshield. Mine is not cracked, but pitted after 185,000 miles. Around $500 to replace, and I am worried about the surround rubber molding leaking afterwards if not also replaced. The plan was to get an inexpensive toy.

I just bought a 2004 325 ci convert. same color combination and it needed a cooling fan, radiator. tranny cooler , fan shroud and two tires . Ive done the detail and the service , put 5k miles on it an d have $1200 in it done. Interior is perfect, top works fine . Drive it Randy!

Randy, you are the channel, not the cars. Its reality TV. If it were about the cars Doug DeMuro would be the only car guy on TH-cam. I am also self employed, and a few years ago when I bought the house I'd been renting for five years from the landlord, I had to go through hell. People have no idea how hard it is for the self employed to get a mortgage. They don't know that we pay 150% the taxes of everyone else, while only our net income is considered income by the bank. They don't understand that even if we've never paid a bill late, it's hard to get our credit score over 600. The Hellcat and the bike may not have been the best choices, but they were your choices and this is your channel. You do you brother, I'll keep watching.

Per BMW repair shop system issues (regular): rough idle caused by dirty idle controller, bad cam cover gasket causes oil to leak down and smoke. Radiator leaks. Hey each owner drives harder. If it's a 4cyl and being driven hard like it was a high speed sports car... But in general rates... Well sorta well.

In the e36 on the autos on the a and m switch, a means automatic so it shifts like a regular auto. M means manual and that's where you use 3 2 1 down from drive. Then you manually shift it but it actually acts as a manual, so if you left it in 2 on accident it will actually start in 2nd.

  • @dodgydruid

Over here in the UK the Ci is what we in the industry would call a "hairdresser special" lol Saying that, the 4 pot is desirable because they tend not to blow the head gaskets like the 6 pots and perform well enough for size, trouble with the six pot is when the HG goes its eye wateringly expensive but most able mechanics can tackle the 4 pot with less issue. The only Beemer I would own these days is the 750iL, the big daddy V12 that if you bolted on some bespoke Alpina parts gives you a 200mph monster and the good thing with the V12 is the parts are sourced from the six cylinder 525e engine which is cheap as chips if you blow a rod. I would def recommend a remap and limiter delete, maybe some bigger 'jectors and some cold inductionery to give it more freedom to rev and power. The A and M is auto mode and manual mode for those times when towing a trailer or caravan and you want to engine brake down a steep hill.

I think you should hold on to the BMW for awhile. Fix the radiator, replace battery, update speakers, make it look good, and drive and enjoy it.

I think if you continue to hold the top button down (
One that dropped all windows) the top will go down automatically

The old school 318's are actually one of the more reliable BMW engines from that era. Not as sexy or as powerful as the 6's of course, but no VANOS to cause grief....

I think the best thing about the BMW over the Hellcat is that if something happens to it then oh well. You have less then $1000 in it right now so if a tree falls on it when it is parked with nobody inside it, no great loss. If the Hellcat gets damaged then there will be a lot of issues. It should have a power top but it probably does not work. For under $1000 it is a good deal. It would have probably fetched more from auction at the end of spring or early summer (prime convertible weather) then it would now.

Crushed to hear you are selling the Plymouth but I understand. If I had the cash I’d more than Willing give you the 15k for her. 57-58 Plymouth is definitely a dream car of mine. Looking forward to more great content :)

E36 BMW is a great car! I've had my 93 325is for over 20 years. The only problem with a 318 and an auto trans is it's slow AF

Radio may need a security code reset. Dead battery causes that. I have a 1995 318 ti Sport with 256,000 miles. Runs like a top.

Those wheels are factory Alpina lookalikes, that is a nice option. You also have the DOHC 1.8 engine which is rare, they are excellent much better than the SOHC engine.

My 1999 M3 Convertible, which is also an E36, had a totally automatic top. I guess they got a lot of complaints and made it standard in later years (at least in the US).
