By the way, the noise you get taking off from a dead stop is your drive shaft center support. The bearing and the bushing have gone out and it's letting the drive shaft move up high enough to actually make contact with the underbody and you get that rotating kind of weird noise when you accelerate from a stop, it's pretty easy to fix though!

It's sad how content changed. Remeber times when you were really hard working on cars, and by working I mean something more, than washing, and after 17 miles of driving send it back to auction. There were series on one car and viewers can see how you bring car back to life. Now? Video is out like maybe hour, and first comment is IAA site where are you selling it. When I can learn here something, about repairing, I liked your channel more. No hate, just saying.

Respectfully, I miss the days when you actually rebuilt cars. Now your channel seems to be more about auto auction drives and flips. I understand you are busy, and this process is easier and financially less costly, but I do find it less interesting.
Perhaps you might find someone who has novice mechanical skills who would be willing to perform refurbishment work at no labor cost in return for your help in setting them up with a TH-cam channel. That way you could do more extensive content than walk-arounds, bidding, driving, and flipping these vehicles. This would be similar to what Tyler Hoover did for the folks who run Omega Auto Clinic on the Car Wizard channel, but with regular cars instead of exotics.
I know you did this with Michael on his Santa’s Workshop channel for a while, but it seems he’s likely too busy with his own projects to assist with repairs on your purchases on a regular basis.

I clicked on this video so fast that I didn’t recognize the $900 on the title but when you said $900 I was shocked beyond belief you got it for that. These things run up too $10k in todays market even high mileage and finished interiors. It being a bmw, the z3 is definitely a easier car too work on just like a Miata. You definitely got a steal and just for the maintenance I would recommend getting it on s lift and check for any leaks/broken or rusting spots. If it checks out you have a great and fun little car on your hands!

  • @alanmoore78

idk man I'd spend a few hours at a junkyard and get as many of those broken plastic bits as I could, reinstall that stuff, get a nice clean connection at the battery terminals and posts and tighten it right, check on the transmission mount and rear end get that quieted down, and there's only seven of these on FB marketplace right now, cheapest is $2800 nicest lowest mileage is $11900. I'd think this could easily bring 4-5k after some detailing and attention. That dent on the quarter near the gas door is the most time consuming thing but it can come out and be touched up. You're definitely in it for the right money, if someone gets this from IAA for under 1500 it has potential for enough to be worth the time still.
If I get that garage I want you can bring all this interesting stuff you don't have time for down to me in Lawton, I'll get them sorted on the cheap, do a photoshoot, you can list it and make the big money. Lawton used car prices are stupid high, might work out nicely. I know I can't find cheap stuff here very often so I end up looking in OKC most of the time.

I’m enjoying the super cheap BMWs…particularly the rag tops. Although I would like to see you “restore” them mechanically and cosmetically. Sort them out mechanically…do the basic maintenance stuff…and clean up the interiors/replace the broken plastics. Buying them, getting them home and washing them only to send them back to auction…might provide content but it gets old quick. Personally I liked your older content when you actually did something with the cars…don’t get sucked into paint and bodywork on all of them but do more than just drive and wash them. Perhaps you might be able to revisit your license to allow you to sell them to the public for a profit…or branch off to a sideline revenue stream finding cars for your viewers in addition to the buy, clean, fix, drive TH-cam revenue. I can’t tell you how many vehicles I have seen in your videos that I’d purchase. I’m in the rust belt…you are so lucky to have access to rust free projects. Love the videos and thanks for sharing.

No Randy, she is very wrong. The reason why this channel is so popular and the reason why I watch is because you feature a diverse number of cars, their common problem and their common fixes. That is the strength of this channel. You featured a car I acquired and you popped up on my feed because of that. Your car had almost exactly the same noises, codes and accompanying problem that mine had. Seeing you figure out and work through each problem showed me how to get mine repaired. I've subscribed ever since. If you just wash the cars and send them down the road it will be a huge mistake!!!!

    • @AutoAuctionRebuilds

Actually the opposite is true. I have the data to back it up. The views and money are always the highest on the first video of a new car on the channel. I'm capitalizing on the statistics and the income since has gone through the roof! Also, you don't show as subscribed to my channel.

I hope you make the right choice Randy but if the numbers are showing you that who am I to argue with it. I guess I can only truly speak for myself.
But your episode with the Saab made go out and get one from copart. I enjoyed fixing it so much I went and got another one from IAAI. Purchases that were a direct result from watching your videos fixing the Saab you got. I'm not even a mechanic, I work in IT. And now I'm restoring a car because of seeing you work on the Saab and other cars and then saying to myself, wow, that's not so bad. My father passed away around that time and left me all his tools, I had no cash to buy a brand new car so it all kind of worked out for me.
If I see you work your way through doing a valve cover gasket on a BMW X5 then maybe I can go out and get one for my wife with the same problem and may actually have fun learning how to do a valve cover gasket also.
But maybe I'm not indicative of the viewers of the initial videos, who knows.

Just read a few more of the comments and I probably would have to say that I do agree with a few of the other reviewers about maybe two points:
    1) missing seeing you working on the cars, getting them in a bit more tiptop shape before reselling them… Now here is where I think number two is going to be important though:
    2) NOT sending them back through auction! Conversely, when you had Weird Beard to help you sell these cars, that was a really cool relationship! It was another individual with "quirks and features" (that made for great content for the channel on its own) who would help you get more $$$$ than auctions, kept things more personal and interesting, etc.
It appears you must have had a falling out with him, because I realize I have not seen you selling cars through him for a while now :-(
Of course, another option is for you to resell these... but then that becomes another channel; I think you working and getting them in nice shape and then having some sort of an interesting friend who may also have a channel or what have you who does the actual resales and maybe some other work you can't do.
A "marriage made in heaven" type situation would be a Santa's Workshop also sold cars!
REALLY nice guy, "salt of the earth," seems ethical and on the same page with you etc. (at least it seems that way on camera) and then he does some work that you can't (on bodies etc.) AND if he were also to have that license and could do the reselling (and deal with that hassle) again, it would be a kind of like a marriage made in heaven for your channel.
Maybe you can have a talk with SW and/or TJ and see if either one of them could get a dealer's license (if they're interested) or direct you to somebody who could be your new "Weird Beard. Those are my three cents!

The 2.5 liter and 2.8 liter were deemed too close together by BMW from a marketing standpoint so they badged the cars with a 2.5 liter engine with a 2.3 badge. The interiors don't hold up too well but everything else about these cars is excellent in terms of quality and durable engineering.

Great video, as always! Copart must love making auction fees off you AND the next guy lol... would like to see some more repair videos though. The idea of being able to buy something from Copart, fix it up, and drive it is what drew me to your channel years ago. Really miss seeing that type of content as regularly as I used to.

Yep I'm sure copart I making more than he is. What does he do set the reserve to a few hundred more than he's into it so he makes at least 300 bucks? I would at least sell a few a year privately. The ones that would be most profitable. In Canada where I am, can sell up to 5 vehicles per year without needing a licence. A couple times I was already at my limit for the year but came across something I could make an easy $3500 on... bought it, fixed the couple small things and gave it a nice cleaning and sold it. Whole process was 3 days. I never even had it in my name, it was still in the name of the guy I bought from, which is called "curbsiding" (here when you buy a car privately, you pay taxes on the sale price or the wholesale value of the vehicle if the purchase price is below wholesale) when you transfer it to your name after purchase. The reason curbsiding is illegal is because the government didn't get their cut in the taxes they would have made. I've done it a few times and not lost any sleep over it lol. Like I said, they were deals I couldn't pass up and the chance of getting caught is pretty slim anyways. I love buying things especially when I already have a buyer lined up at a certain price, within a couple hours of me picking the item or car up I have my buyer on the way to pick up from me. Quick easy money. I do it alot with car audio equipment, it's been making a comeback in a big way the last 2 or 3 years so the profit is there. Over the winter (off season) I stockpile amplifiers and sometimes subs/boxes if it's a package deal etc or cheap price. Clean them up and wait until April/May and throw them all up on Marketplace. Very often I double and triple up on the stuff. 2 years ago I bought $1900 worth of stuff over winter and turned it into $5150 inside of 5 weeks. Started listing stuff last week of April and by end of May was all gone. Last year spent about $2600 and turned it into $7000 in about same time frame, 5 or 6 weeks.

Try to find a BMW or Z3 forum to post it.
Need to find an end-use buyer who is looking for one of those as a basis to turn it into a track car, or a toy, or a professional BMW mechanic who can easily fix it for little cost.

My mother had a 2000 . Had the soft top and then she also got the removable hard too. They were decent little roadsters. But like all BMWs they become money pits as they aged. Finally got my mother from buying BMWs. That being said you clean that up you can make a lot more then what you paid for that little car . Glad my mother does not watch utube lol she would be trying to buy it. Around here you could get 7 grand really easy. It’s crazy what they sell for

What a sweet deal! Great find. BTW your fiance is wise. Also, why sell at auction for something cute like this if you don't think it will bring much more than you paid? Seems like the used market today might get you a lot more $$. 1997 Z3s with about 150k miles are selling for about $7k on Autotrader.
