Pinwheel wins the "closest to my heart" award. My first DS1 run had me in the Catacombs at the beginning. My first boss was Pinwheel. All of my friends laughed at me when I bragged about first-trying him.
For Ds3, its gotta be Aldrich for me. The puppeteering of Gwyndolin’s dead body, the creepy rendition of his theme, the sheer horror of him being devoured alive and the fact that Anri and Horace were supposed to be devoured as children really is the cherry on top. (I had this admittedly foolish notion that i could intervene and stop Aldrich from devoring Gwyndolin. But i should have known it was too late already when i found the armour set of the Anor Londo fire keeper on a corpse, hunched over in the hallway)
@@nerdymidwesterner3662 or had a cutscene. I feel like each of the Lords of Cinder should have got one. Like just imagine the horror of Aldrich trying to formulate sentences as a sentient sludge. Maybe it expected the Pontiff or one of his deacons to bring him fresh victims. At first it would be furious for the slaying of his many , many disciples. But then, it would sense the enormity of souls used up for level ups. And this is the moment the camera should zoom in on Gwyndolin’s face, as Aldrich streches out his lips to flash a creepy smile
Yeah, when I did all my recordings for footage last year, there were a handful of bosses I knew I'd have to dodge for a while to get any actual time. Pinwheel was my favourite though :)
I absolutely love the animation of Midra’s grab attack, where after violently impaling you with the greatsword of Damnation and digging its spikes into your body, when he’s finished he holds out his arms as if he’s in absolute bliss, like he’s being cheered on by some adoring crowd, like the lord is so gleeful to finally be free and able to take vengeance on the world that he can’t help but delight in it
I fucking LOVE Midra! His moveset was the most fun one to dodge, and I completely agree that the floatiness and elegance of his swings work to make the vibe even scarier, I feel like I am being toyed with fighting him. The floating flame for a head and thorny sword is also just metal as hell. He was my personal favorite boss in the DLC, which says a lot because the important bosses in the DLC were mostly top-tier imo.
I Love your theory about the Semon of D-- I mean the Demon of Song. I can totally see the connection there. This series does also have a recurring theme of creating offshoots of oneself that are manifestations of suppressed emotion. I would also love a fully-horror game from From Software. It doesn't even necessarily have to be a soulslike. Still, if they want to make a Soulslike, I think Sci-Fi is ripe for a creepy, horrific atmosphere. Soulsborne + Deadspace would be amazing.
Wouldn't be the first demon to be born from an item, looking at Centipede Demon. Or even the last, as Lokey theorises that the stray demon on the Lothric Gate Bridge might be born from the Ring of Havel.
Pinwheel's lore was disturbing as Hell to learn, and shined a whole new ghoulish light on what's otherwise a throwaway joke boss when I first learned it. I remember hearing that you can hear three different voices (Pinwheel, his wife, and his child) crying out in his boss theme, and that there's an implication that he was just shy of fixing his mistake when the player shows up and kills him. I have no idea how true any of that is though.
Speaking of games with creepy elements, Nine Sols is a game I would honestly love to see covered on this channel. I’d honestly be surprised if you hadn’t heard of it or played it already because it’s basically Hollow Knight meets Sekiro. That game definitely has a few bosses that would fit on this list.
Just an honorable shoutout in Armored Core 6 because FromSoft Handler Walter’s fight is the only fight where I actually felt physically sick from experiencing it, which is odd as it is one of the prettiest spectacles. It was the first time I saw the effects of reeducation. Hearing Walter with his mind messed up beyond repair, remembering that reeducation involves the removal of body parts, and then realizing that Walter was incredibly resistant to reeducation made me imagine just what was inside that AC. I imagined Walter with all his limbs amputated, lobotomized, head shaved, fused to the machine as only a torso and a head. My imagination ran really wild with it, and it made me wretch to imagine it happening to Walter, who I grew to really love. Made me feel really bad for sparing V.VII Swinburne.
For creepiest I'd go with the Ng+2 final boss Especially with the buildup to it and the MIA mission showcasing the exact nature of who you are assisting up till now.
i really agree with your choices for ds3 and lies of p, but i would have gave an honorable mention to oceiros and aldrich from ds3 and archbishop andreus from lies of p
Nashandra creeps me out. The way she touches the scythe in the cutscene, and how she looks like a Nightmare Before Christmas character. First time encountering Vendrick was creepy too, but the lore makes it more sad.
I love this list, and I'm so glad you also thought of the yellow Monk with Midra. It felt like a big kiss for Demon's souls fans. It feels Midra is what the yellow monk could have been. A man gone mad with outer God touch upon him.
man even before the dlc. i could actually feel midra or specifically the concept of "the lord of frenzied flames" footprint around the entire game. and melina even mentioned the lord of frenzied flame by title so did melina know midra.
I think the title is whoever is the current host of the chaos flame, I have a personal theory that the title actually belongs to the god of the frenzied flame who fuses with and possesses the corpse of a suitable host.
@@chrislevack405 It was a candidate for best rpg in '23 TGA, has sold about 10M copies as of today, still has DLC upcoming and got numerous awards and high ratings - all for an indie studio's first game. Flash how?
I definitely want to, but I'm debating whether it's better to just wait for the mod's eventual release or not. I feel like I missed the boat a tad with Archthrones content xD
Hi Billy great video, I just want to say that ,i will love to see a ranking from you of all the souls games based on how scary they are. Bloodborne is of cours going to end up on top but I want to know your opinion on the other souls games ❤
Ah, that's me being a sneaky content creator - It's from the Dark Souls III Archthrones mod demo for PC, which adds a playable Sands of Carthus zone. Felt fitting to include it given the narration.
@@BillySYT Goootcha. Well, as ever, another video of truly surpassing quality! Like I've said before, the rate at which you put these out is truly astounding; your work ethic is downright inspirational! Can't wait for the next one.
I think Aldrich would make a much better top pick for ds3 in my opinion. Especially the sound design of the model itself revealing that gwyndolyn is still in some way alive within Aldrich as you hear his moans of pain. The simple fact that his form is being used as a sort of puppet by the thing that is Aldrich is also very unsettling, especially with the way he moves. And his music is also eerie as it is a sort of twisted nightmarish version of gwyndolin/moonlight butterfly leitmotif, implying the twisted lore surrounding gwyndolyns horrible fate
Darkbeast Karrl, personally to me, is creepier than BSB. Because it's heavily implied that it was experimented on by either Archibald or possibly even by Mensis. And that it clawed its way out out of Yahar'gul, and couldn't (or refused to) get through to Old Yharnam since the door was locked, then it starved to death.
I always wish for you to do some Lies of P appretiation...and well...for the small video in between you used Feel as the background song so...something? Hahaha
Not a bad list, but something to note? Might've been that the Bloodstarved Beast was progressing towards a Bloodlicker form. Lack of blood to feed on might've induced a self-flaying.
For Demon's Souls I would have probably chosen True King Allant. He's not difficult and that, to me, actually adds to the creep factor. He's a man who's lust for power has corrupted him into this barely functioning blob monster that honestly seems like life is now constant agony for it.
As creepy as the Blood-Starved beast genuinely is, for me Gehrman is easily the creepiest in Bloodborne due to his “creepy” obsession of Lady Maria lol and for Elden Ring it’s Patches because at this point I feel like he’s obsessed with me 😂
I would say for demons souls, the Dragon God. Ive only played the remaster but damn is he creepy looking AND powerful. I hated fighting this dude. His hulking body. Glowing red eyes and poweful 1 hit kill strikes are enought to scare the average player. In DS1 I'd say Nito is def creepy. His intro, the whole tomb if the giants underground leading up to the drop in his chamber, even being able to pray at his coffin before the true fight adds some creep factor. DS2 id probably go with nashandra. Prob an easy chpice but man is she disgusting looking. The music hits hard as well. Shes a pushover for sure but def creepy as f looking. DS3 hmm wolnir is def creepy with the fog and his arena however he's prob runner up to Aldritch who is super disgusting, feared by Anri and turned anor londo into a disgusting hell scape. The fact he consumed Gwyndolyn is def creepy as well. Bloodborne has its fair share of disgusting abominations but id go with the orphan. The placenta, his horrible screams of agony and pain, the horror that ensued when the hunters killed his pregnant mother, all in all just bad ju ju and creepy vibes all around.
Ds1: Nito gives me the creeps, the scream, the way he approach....and remembering Tomb of the Giants...ugh Ds2: Nashandra, she didn't give me good vibes when I talk to her and looking her real form....just, confirm my suspition xD Bloodborne: Micolash, even tho I hate him and is freaking annoying. His fucked up mind and the sounds he make, and also the atrocious thinks he did with his students in Yahar Gul...it creeps me alot.
Ah, that's a sneaky bit of editing from my part. It's from the Dark Souls III Archthrones Mod demo, where one of the zones was Carthus of the Sands. Since I had the footage on hand, and it fit with Wolnir's back story, I couldn't resist including it.
I'm in ng++ in ds2 to get the platinum. I have made it to iron keep. Just need to get to dranglaic and get 3 things from the guy right inside the door. I am very much looking forward to never touching ds2 again.
Finally Pinwheel wins something other than easiest boss!
Pinwheel wins the "closest to my heart" award.

I love that with how easy Pinwheel is, you had to intentionally extend the fight for the footage by attacking his minions instead
Yeah, when I did all my recordings for footage last year, there were a handful of bosses I knew I'd have to dodge for a while to get any actual time. Pinwheel was my favourite though :)

I really like that on every entry you play the boss ost before you even reveal which one it is, rewarding who knows the songs 👌🏽
Yay! Lies Of P was mentioned!! (It’s my favorite soulslike including Dark souls and Elden Ring)
Midra himself isn’t the scariest boss, but the build up to him is absolutely terrifying
I found him tragic and yeah that build up does some stuff but he also becomes much more uncanny his body literally longates and the movements too
I will always stand by Demon of Song being the creepiest boss IMO. The first time you see that skull head come out of the frog? ICK!
I'm actually so happy that Lies of P got a spot in this video. It honestly is one of my favorite games ever and I want to see some more content on it.
Nashandra creeps me out. The way she touches the scythe in the cutscene, and how she looks like a Nightmare Before Christmas character. First time encountering Vendrick was creepy too, but the lore makes it more sad.
