As someone with very fond memories of this area (especially The Mucky Duck) spanning over 40 years since childhood, I am truly heartbroken. I wish that the comments on this post could keep with the theme of sharing fond memories of the island and sending positive vibes to the individuals that call this beautiful place their home. Anything else is simply unnecessary and doesn’t need to be here. Sending positive thoughts and prayers from Indiana to this entire region that has been battered so badly the past couple of years.
Wow.. I had wandered how Sanibel & Captiva Fred after … Debby.. Belene, then Milton… and this years season isn’t over…. I do understand that these small islands in general constantly change with every passing storm.. but I dearly love this island… have many many fond memories throughout my 60 yrs… thank you for sharing ❤
So sad....Captiva will truly have a harder time in recovery now. Thankful for the memories we have before these storms destroyed this beautiful, carefree place. Much love and blessings to do what you must for each individual resident,
Oh,I'm crying seeing beautiful paradise Captiva in such destruction 😢. I'm from Kazakhstan and my good memories also connected with this gorgeous island, with Mucky Duck....I can't believe it 😢 I'm so thankful to you, Captiva and let God bless this island 🙏 and there will no more disasters over it! I wish only peace and quick recovery!!!
This island will forever have a special place in our hearts, my family has come here for vacation and my children have made wonderful memories. We did lose our family vehicle during the hurricane but we are grateful to be alive
That little yellow A frame at .25 seconds is at the very end of Sanibel and used to be the office of a small very old resort. We stayed there the year before Ian hit and blew it away. We really enjoyed Sanibel and Captiva because they still had the old Florida charm. Sad that most of it is gone.
Such a beautiful place, so sad they keep getting hit. 😢 Not sure if I’ll ever get back there now but I have good memories of vacationing there years ago. Prayers for everyone there.
My heart is feeling heavy and quite sad when seeing the devastation done to my favorite vacation place. We had made plan way in advance to go down there in November and now it had to be cancelled. We visited Sanibel-Captiva in the Spring of last year and in general things were still in repair from the previous hurricane. And now after another two hurricanes, all I can say is that my heart and prayers go out to those folks whose homes and businesses were impacted.
Im from Germany, and every time we Visit Sanibel and drove over the Bridge, we said THIS IS PARADISE. We wish we could live here, and now ? Paradise is destroyed 😢 Stay strong
So very sorry for the devastation! Our favorite place Sanibel and Capativa. Muck Duck bless you. Our dearest place to eat. We pray for everyone 🙏🏻. Much love
I am 68 years old and have been coming to Sanibel/Captivia since my late teens. I have shared many wonderful memories with my grandparents, parents, siblings, aunts/uncles, cousins, their children and my husband. We always went to the Mucky Duck. I cried watching this. I pray for the people and businesses that they can recover. Unfortunately it will never be the same as in my memories. Last time I was there was during Covid. My dad sold his timeshare 2 years ago. The end of a family tradition. 😢💔
@teresitaviera3000 Many, an extended family. All had timeshares the same weeks at Lighthouse, Casa ybel, Captiva since late 1970's. It was the place to meet each year. My aunt & uncle still have Captiva but unable to go last few years due to previous hurricane Ian(?).
What seems like eons ago I would cruise up to South Seas Plantation via Redfish Pass and stay in the marina with my family. We'd fish all day then ride the trolley up to the entrance where was a short walk to the Mucky Duck or Bubble Room or one's pick from a few more restaurants. I recently was telling a friend the whole island was truly magical. It's sad what has happened but I still have a million dollars worth of memories, thank you Captiva. Best wishes to all the hurricane survivors.
Some footage was clipped out at 2:26 and I am hoping to see that missing section, if possible, to help determine the condition of our home. Thanks for posting what you already have!
Hey Jamie, yup, we were stopping and filming then moving on again. We did miss a section of the road because we couldn’t stop close by. On a side note, we are commercial drone operators. If you would like your house surveyed I would be happy to do it for you. Nick@nickadamsphotography.com
Horrible for Mucky Duck owners and loyal patrons, like myself and family. Double punch knockout. Funny how Ian was much less destructive on them. Was that a fire? You hovered over a structure that looked to have smoke raising out of it. Thanks for posting this video, folks! Not exactly what I had hoped to see but knew is was going to be bad. Be strong, Captiva and Sanibel! We will continue to support you!
@@Longenecker1776this is true. Ian was much less destructive on Captiva. I live in Lee County where it is located. It’s amazing how effects from the eye wall location can be so different.
@@lauracurry9917 That is ridiculously hard to believe since most of Captiva is still not back online -- including The Bubble Room which is on the same street but further inland, as well as Doc Ford's
Beautiful spot. I can’t really see what damage there is other than some brown trees, sand on the road and beach erosion. Nothing compared to Hurricane Ian. That destroyed the house my friend rented. It’s such a vulnerable stretch of land being so thin and perpendicular to the mainland. I do appreciate the drone footage though as I have fond memories of staying on Sanibel and biking over to Captiva and going on a kayak tour through the mangroves.
We lived in Sarasota for 6 months 15 years ago and planned on visiting the islands but never made it. After 3 storms I guess it will never be the same paradise we heard so much about?
Don’t let anyone discourage you from visiting. Give it some time and then visit. I bet by next summer it will be looking much better. If not, then the year after.
2 years and 2 weeks after Hurricane Ian! I saw videos of what Ian did here, too. 😢 It seems hurricanes named after guys (himicanes?) can get to be very cruel to Southwest Florida. And with the insurance market the way it is in Florida, it's going to be a lot more difficult to rebuild.
Thanks for the great video Nick & Lori! I look forward to visiting soon. So sorry to see the Mucky Duck, and the homes burnt down by the Green Flash. Captiva will rebuild, as Sanibel is doing also! One question, if I may. The pink house by Blind Pass at the start of Captiva: was it painted white? Is it OK? Thanks again. I love Sanibel, and Captiva!
As a true Floridian of 5 generations there is a reason we don't live on the Keys. There is an old saying which is very true..."What the Sea makes the Sea may reclaim!!!"
@@TheSanibelCaptivaGuide Thank you...may I respectfully suggest that an in depth video on the progress of rebuilding would be very rewarding for the tens of thousands of patrons who have loved those places. thank you for your good work and consideration
Just a gentle reminder that these areas were never meant for human habitation as they are part of ever changing landscape that is shaped by tropical storms and hurricanes over centuries.
The entire world is a part of an ever changing landscape. Humans originated from Africa, does that mean that no humans should inhabit any regions across the planet outside of the regions of Africa where we originate from because they weren’t “meant” to be inhabited by humans? What even defines if it is meant to be inhabited?
