I have been to Cody, Wyoming, and I have personally stood right next to John Johnston's grave there.
I even have the home movie footage of it, first transferred from the original 8mm film (taken in 1977), then to VHS tape, then finally digitized.
Fun fact: Robert Redford, who portrayed Johnston (renamed as "Jeremiah Johnson," of course) actually served as one of the pallbearers for Johnston's body when it was relocated to Cody.

Quite a man, there are not a lot of men today who can say they have lived a more adventurous life, some of us just lived our lives and went where our loves took us. I was a soldier, then a law man for 8 and 24 years, I too loved adventure but in my day there were only foreign wars, and criminals to chase. I love the stories of the old mountain men, my wife an I used to talk of living the lone life on some mountain in the West but never took to the life. The last few years we had together before cancer took her from me, we traveled the South West in our Class A Motor home on mini adventures in the Mohave desert near the California Arizona border, staying in the free State of Arizona but taking day trips into the peoples republic of California to see the sights. I loved those days, and sure do miss my good lady, we had 51 years and 4 days of wedded bliss, she stood beside me during my Army days, waited at home when I went to war in Vietnam and lived through the next 8 years while I served in different Units across our great nation, she kissed me good bye when I went off to patrol the streets and hugged me when I got home alive the following morning. Now I sit here and enjoy the tales of the Old west and remember the wonderful days as my wife and I lived the good life.

Johnson was born in 1824 & the Mexican-American war began in 1846. He wouldve been 22yo and not underage. Also, surprisingly, the average American in the 1850's was 5'10", not 5'6". It's now 5'9". (Us American's are shrinking)
This research found these mistakes in less than 5 minutes, and the podcast was less than 3 minutes old. Call me old fashioned, but if I was going to do a podcast on history or a historical figure, i might want to do the bare minimum amount of research that a 3rd grade teacher would expect of her pupil before turning in his paper.

From what I’ve heard the story about him killing 300 Crows is completely untrue, this was based off of the book lover eating Johnson or whatever it was called, and was considered accurate by historians up until pretty recently. The Crows were very friendly toward the US and served as scouts for the US army against the Lakota in the 1860s and 1870s. Even if he did actually fight the crows it’s highly unlikely he killed 300. To kill that many he would basically have to spend all his time finding Crows to kill and somehow gotten lucky enough to survive every encounter with them and not get killed himself. From what I’ve heard about the actually story of liver eating Johnson is he was a mountain man and fought in the campaigns against the Sioux and Cheyenne and was a great Indian fighter, the story of him liver eating allegedly came from when in battle he killed a Lakota warrior with a knife and when he pulled the knife out of his stomach a piece of the warriors liver was on the knife and Johnson licked the blood off of the blade.

In the cave he decided to eat the body! Interrupted by a Grizzly bear in this process, of butchering he had just severed one leg of the man’s body . He used this dead man’s leg for a club to beat and chase away the bear!!!!

According to a book that I read Jeremiah Johnson fought at the battle of Westport Missouri on October 23, 1864. Your video states that he was a member of the second Colorado cavalry and theydid a fight there. Can you tell me if he was at Westport?

Fictitious story. In real life the man that became known as livery Johnson was never married to a flathead nor anyone else. While he was still alive and the story was being circulated in newspapers about him he actually wrote a letter to the editor of a Montana newspaper asking them to take back the false statements made about him and he stated in this letter that he had never been married to an Indian wife.
I'm not even going to watch this video give me further I'm sure pretty soon they're going to get around the climbing that he was cutting people's livers out and eating them and that is total s***
