HTI-H8 vs HT-301 Thermal Imager Showdown

  • The HT-301 isn't perfect, but it's got fantastic bang for the buck in the thermal imager market with 384x288 25Hz capture. The HTI-H8 is basically that same sensor in a handheld package, so is it the HT-301 refined for a professional workflow?
    Not exactly.
    Let me know your experiences with these two or competitive imagers below!

    Tanks a lot... was about to pull the trigger on H8, went for 301 instead! Much appreciated man

    This actually made me decide on the HT-301 (the HTI-H8 vs HT-301 comparison was something that was going through my mind as well). The FLIR equivalent is ages (and thousands of $) behind this at this price range and performance (you pay 70-80% for the brand). FLIR is going to be extinct in a few years if it does not step up its game.

    Thanks dude, you plus a russian dude totally saved me from buying a handheld HT19 or H8. Got a 301 with at a bargain and I'm really impressed. Anyone knows if there's a wider angle lens available for it? Default lens are great for circuits but having the ability to do quick building thermal survey would be also great.

    What would be a nice handheld in the same price range? Dont like the dongle way of mounting it to my phone... Are the 320x240 from HTI good? Have a FLIR One Pro but its not that useful in most situations I need an thermal imager.

    That was solid, thx.
    what about the Xtherm T3S.. is it the same, just under rebadge with the same app features and all that jazz, recall both are 25hz.
    Looking into getting myself one of these 384x288 microbolometer thermal cams, as the step to fx VGA res. is still insanely expensive, and as I recall closer to 2k than 1k USD a few years back and that picture has like not changed since..
    If you were in the market for a 384x288 variant.. T3S or Hti-301? and do you have an overview of the pro & cons of these models, if there are differences.
    I saw quite high-degree reading on your Hti301 like in the 500s, likely down the high emissivity areas but was not familiar it could go that high..
    thx for the vid.

      Btw this is the best results I reckon I can get from my old Seek Pro FF iOS imgur.com/a/dXu32vB
      Purchase back in 2017 from a guy in the states selling them new for around 300USD, been extremely glad for this unit, but is still only a 320x240 and peeking at around 18Hz.(FF-variant) and looking to taking the step up to 384x288 or VGA res. .

    Regarding the video, you can still make screen recordings with the smartphone, right? How did you pay for the therm App? I think its only a 3 day trial and you have to pay for it after that, right?

    Can we set max & min temperature on software for HT-301 to find out short circuit spot or component as like as FLIR ? 😃

  • @fatitigilo825

    I love the HT-301, very crisp view, smooth and fast movements, high detection range.
    But, the temperature measurements are more than way off. During operation the temperature measurement lowers rapidly. Is this because it is compensating for the heating of the sensor itself? Can i make measurements more consistent?

    • @urz7481
      @urz7481 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      its have issue temperature lower by it self?

    • @fatitigilo825
      @fatitigilo825 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@urz7481 During operation the temperature measurements will drop significantly. Like 0.1 per second or every few seconds. It goes up again a little after pressing the calibrate button. After 10 minutes of operation the measured temperatures seems more or less consistent and don't change much anymore.

    • @fatitigilo825
      @fatitigilo825 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I recommend you turn on the camera. Let it sit for 10 minutes. Then set temperature correction to match at 0 with melting ice and 100 with boiling water. For future quantitative measurements let the device 'warm up' for 10 minutes first.
      That's the best i got out of it so far. It's very annoying it needs this warmup time. But for this price it's a very impressive device.

    • @yunodiewtf
      @yunodiewtf 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@fatitigilo825 Also don't forget thermal emissivity, ambient temperature, viewing distance and all other details. For precise measurements you'd better have some reference black circle with regulated temperature in the view if you need precise readings.

    Minor correction, while it is not advisable, the H8 is able to focus very close if you keep turning the focus dial in the closer direction,. You can actually fully unscrew the lens and it will make a clunk sound (at least mine did) when the lend assembly fell out and is caught by the focus wheel internally. It can be screwed back in by resting the camera lends up and turning the focus knob the other way.

    • @AlexWhittemore
      @AlexWhittemore  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My unit had a hard stop that prevented focus any closer than I demo. Yours didn't?

    • @MichaelDing313
      @MichaelDing313 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AlexWhittemore Funnily enough yeah my H8 didn't have a end stop. The 301 I replaced it did have a hard stop and the lens is not removable (unless I really tried to crank it which seems like a bad idea). Strangely inconsistent

      here are a couple of picture I think was taken with the lens fully unscrewed in the H8. Can't get nearly that close with the 301 I have here with the focus hard stop. Min FOV i get on the 301 is 7cm horizontal

    Thank You for the video, I am looking for some Thermal Camera solution under 1K - the important aspects are clearly FrameRate and resolution as it will be used in GhostHunting environments to clarify the source of "cold spot" feelings. - so accuracy like some describe as weak in terms of value read, is not really an issue as You basically just need to see "changes" very quickly and possibly sharp - Seems like you can´t go wrong with the HT-301

      Wait you can double-click the trigger to take video!? I could NOT find ANYWHERE in the listed specs or manual that it takes video at all.
