Thanks for sharing.
You're so welcome! ☀️
I appreciate you sharing what you learn in the process
Thanks! ☀️
The bag turned out very 😍 cute
Thanks! ☀️
You will NOT believe what I learned from you this evening.
First off, I live in a bunkhouse full of partially finished scrap blocks, usually just crumbs stitched together.
I have been sewing scraps together for over thirty years, but I could never figure out how to actually use these multi-colored quilts. Many times, I have just gritted my teether and turned them into quilts or bags, but I was never happy with the colorful material - - I just used them when forced to, other than that, I spent my time trying to figure out why I did not like these things.
Then, I found your channel ... I learned two things from you: stitch two pieces together, then twosies into foursies! And! One can accomplish unity with sashings in any number of configurations.
It seemed so straight forward! But ... in my own inimitable manner, I could not keep it straight in my mind.
I studied my blocks, I was fairly certain that I did not want to make them monochromatic ... I realized my problem looked to be too many colors, so there was never to be any two fabrics within a block, and if there was a strip that matched itself within my eyesight, I wouldn't use it - - but, there in was my problem! It created CHAOS, and that bothered me.
So, I made an executive decision and decided I would just grab a five inch square and attach it to one of those crumb blocks, devil may care. It was still chaotic, but I was beginning to sense a bit of control, and that made me happy.
I then trimmed all 187 crumb/5" squared and decided I was going to put all the cutoffs together, so that my scraps could go back together with more 5" squares, and that would make less scraps, but that is when I made a mistake.
I went to the bunkhouse, grabbed some two inch strips to add to my twosies .... I have no idea how many yards of scraps plus 2" strips are now dangling from my sewing machine, but I sensed I was not doing something right.
You got it! You told us to put our twosies together, and I just added more fabric to what was already a LOT of fabric! (But! the scraps are lessening on the desk top ... so there is that!)
I had to put my "toys" away for the evening, and I was standing looking at a big pile of scraps/crumbs and realized.
SEW TWOSIES TO FOURSIES!
I am one hard learner, but I think I have this pretty down pat. Trust me when I tell you - - if I had not found your channel and your videos putting scraps together, I would have never actually used all of my crumb blocks ... I think I have it pretty well figured out now ... I doubt I will ever use white for my sashings (white and I are not friends! White responds to me as thought I was little Pigpen from the Snoopy cartoons!) ... but! I am busily considering things from my stash for such eventualities.
I have learned a lot from you, Annette, even if I don't seem to keep it all in my frontal lobes in a timely manner.
You have provided solutions to my issues that I could not come up with on my own. Thank you!
I did not learn tonight's experience from this particular program, but it all culminated in my mind tonight.
I like your projects and videos because you do "utility" ... almost every one of your videos have enhanced my quilting experience, even if it didn't always translate well in my over-active mind wandering.
Well done! I have the same kind of brain I think. ☺️ Just can’t “see it” until I see what someone else does, and then it makes sense. Happy sewing! Deb x 🤗
it sometimes frustrates me ... I see the idea, comprehend the wisdom in what is being done and accomplished, and then it takes two more months before I realize I have not yet implemented the idea. It all serves a purpose, I have found. Without "input" from other minds, where would any of us be?@@FoD1975
Hi Mary! It's good to hear you talk about your process. I am really glad you are finding my videos of some help. I really like making the videos. The one thing I hope I get across is there is no "right" way to do any of this. It's ART! Art is subjective. What I like, what you like, what John Doe likes, are all subjective! ☀️. That said, if you and white do not play well together, you might think about a neutral of mid-tone gray! I really like gray as a 'resting place' for my eyes in scrappy projects. Have a wonderful day! ☀️
I came into quilting from a factory setting. I LOVE production work. However, left to my own devices, I do not always find the most efficient way to handle my time and resources. I have been greatly encouraged by your videos (and, it isn't about right or wrong for me. It is about efficient and effective) ... and definitely SCRAPPY! There are not many quilters of your caliber in my estimation. I do believe in giving credit where credit is due. I appreciate the encouragement you lend to others as you share what you do and are doing. You have definitely made it possible for me to come from a different perspective to see what I may or may not be doing to get a scrappy quilt that I actually like. I have now gone through my twosies/foursies/ with a few threesies thrown in, but it will all even out. What I learned from that operation was: I ended up with FEWER trims that I have ever before had! Not only was it more efficient (and, it is) but I am now getting more of my fabric into my crumb blocks than in the garbage ... THAT! is a BIG plus - - after all, it is all about utilizing as much of the fabric in our stash, right???? LOL@@sunbeamfabricart

I’m curious. What kind of rotary cutter do you have? I have one that looks like it, but I can’t figure how to use it.
It's a discontinued Fiskars 45mm rotary cutter. I love it, but they don't make it any longer. Sorry!
