I know why this loss has hit me hard. It is because Al Jarreau was a genuine GOOD GUY from start to finish! I have never heard a bad word about him, his treatment of others or anything in over 3 and half decades. He gave back to his community in Milwaukee, he always was pleasant in public and gave us everything he had in his performance. He took a music style that was dying and brought it back to life (think Rochelle Farrell, etc). He never cared if he looked cool or not. He seemed determined to take the gift God gave him and share it. Man, did he share it!
It is with regret to have heard of the passing of the incomparable AlJarreau . Oh! Thank you for such wonderful music. The world has lost a great soul .RIP.
WOW....i was just thinking about Al like a week or 2 ago, every once in awhile when i don't hear a favorite tune from my past (i'm 49 now) ...i get a jonesin unequaled LOL!!! so one day like about 2 weeks ago WE'RE IN THIS LOVE TOGETHER pops into my mind and i just started wondering to myself: I WONDER WHAT AL JARREAU IS DOING THESE DAYS??? ....................................so to you my brother from another mother .......thank you so very much for sharing with the "Human Family"!!!!!.......that awesomely beautiful talent god blessed you with......Rest In Peace.

Oh my my, for some reason I JUST learned about Al Jarreau passing, I know to a better place-but my tears are flowing. He brought so much, SO Much Love to this world. I'm so very grateful to have been touched in my heart by his gift of song. The Angels in heaven, I'm sure, embraced him with song. Thank You, Al Jarreau.
I know why his death hit me. I saw him free he wouldn't charge at "Zora Hurston " concert. An I saw the long line waiting to interact with this great presence. So gracious,happy to do what he was doing. Stood there an hour chatting with folk signing his c.d. We were young with family so this was tantamount for us. Thanks again Al rest in power.
While over here in Europe, Al Jarreau has become immortal because of "Roof Garden" and "Boogie Down". Listen. Feel. Dance. Enjoy. Be connected. It is what Al was. Connected to his audience. I'ill remember walking the streets of Amsterdam, my new hometown, and listening to a Sony Walkman playing "Morning" and particularly the words "I know I can, like any man, reach out my hand, and touch the face of GOD"! I am a 100% agnostic, still today, but that moment made me connect to Al big time.
I loved him from the first time I heard We're In This Love Together in 1981. I saw him in concert four times, and that voice was for real. He sure didn't need production help. And when he strode out onstage, you knew "the party is starting, because Al's here!" And he was funny as hell too. Just an all-around wonderful guy.
I knew al and susan. I was so depressed when he passed away. susan said to me once, he really want to return to his jazz lots. which he did. l was smoke, and he smoked he worst cigarettes out there, chesterfields. they're all bad, but that band was his. singers, if you smoke, quit! if you don't, don't start.

Al's wife, Susan passed away in January of 2019 of esophageal cancer.
