This is probably the best Redskins season I ever witnessed. They looked the best in 2005 and 2006 and were really looking like they were going to be something. When Sean Taylor died things changed, he was the heartbeat of that defense.
Legit believe this team was reffed out of the Super Bowl: if they get any one of four bad calls right, the Redskins beat the Bucs, win the East and get the 2 seed - and with the bye-given rest beat the Bears again and then if healthy beat the Seahawks again.
The crazy thing is that the Redskins have 2 playoff games since Joe Gibbs first retirement. It was Norv Turner 1999 and Joe Gibbs again in 2005 after clinching this game.
Also crazy: the Redskins were in a longer playoff drought (6 years) when Daniel Snyder bought the team than they ever went through during his cursed ownership (5 years).
I hate Washington almost as much as I hate Dallas and far more than NYG, so it pains me to no end to admit this. But that Portis TD run to give them the lead in the 4th was an incredible play.
Brunell played 16 years in the NFL and was an elite QB in Jacksonville for nearly a decade. Passed for over 30,000 yards and almost 200 TD’s in an era where defenses were allowed to play defense and hit the QB. Hardly ass.
I always loved Clinton Portis even as a Giants fan. One of the best RBs of this era IMO.
