Sure it is a hassle and a chore to get it done and properly without for physical deterioration that can eventually lead to destruction of said device. Not a lot of people know how to properly clean their said device without throwing it away. But I am glad Bestbuy is doing their effort to teach their customers on how to properly clean their headphones and earbuds.
As a first step, check your manual or manufacturer's support page for their recommendations on cleaning the cloth earpads. They will often include instructions on how to remove the pads from the headphones so that you can clean them in a bowl with water and soap mixture.
What worked well for me to remove the residual bad odor that was there even after the cleaning, was Fabreeze. In my case, that mesh protecting the speakers was the issue.
Video is missing the bit of weeping down the headphones with the towel, went straight to the q tips and small spaces. Might be obvious how to but they went in depth with the ear buds so it just seems like it's missing

In theory, a small amount of leather cleaner may work on the headphones. As the leather on the headphones is thinner than the purses and other leather products that cleaner is designed to work with, you may want to try using a minimal amount at first and applying with care.

We'd recommend trying that wipe on a more hidden portion of the headphones first. We can't guarantee whether the chemicals in that wipe might remove the color from the headphone cups or plastic.

Anywhere from 70% to 99% will work. 70% is ideal for disinfecting as the additional water helps it to penetrate and kill bacteria.
