1988 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ62 Restoration Project
This 1988 FJ62 was commissioned by a client in Miami who wanted a classic SUV to take on quick spins around town. Restored and customized for daily adventures, this FJ62 is ready to redefine what an SUV could be, all over again.
Great in 88"
1988 is one of the most desirable model years for the FJ62. Not only are these some of the best-looking 60 series Land Cruisers you'll find, they're also the most powerful. 1988 marked the debut of the two-tone paint job, the double headlights with chrome trim, the front side marker lights, and, of course, the more powerful and economical fuel-injected 3F-E engine.
A Powerful Presence
The FJ62 was upgraded to make you feel like you own the road - and by “the road” we mean “any road.” We began with the 3F-E engine, which was completely rebuilt using OEM parts from the U.S. and Japan. This fuel-injected powerhouse is mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission, rebuilt by marque experts in Australia. Like all of our other builds, this FJ62 is equipped with an upgraded suspension system from Old Man Emu and all four-wheel drive components were restored to rock-crawling perfection.
Classic Indulgence
While our idea of luxury certainly has changed over the last 30 years, somehow this FJ62 still gets it right. The sweeping lines of the dash feel familiar and timeless, while 80's style controls mingle with modern-day conveniences, like the iPhone- and Bluetooth-ready premium sound system with its five-channel amplifier and eight-inch subwoofer. The floor received a protective coat of Raptor liner and all floor mats and vinyl upholstery are water resistant and washable - the perfect solution for FJ Company client, who likes to bring his dogs along for the ride.

Travelled all through Australia with one. Great vehicle. Would go anywhere. Never had any mechanical failures. No problems, apart from getting it stuck in a ramp of an old car park building in Melbourne (a moment of eternal shame).
I bet you thought " of all the rough terrain it's been through, and it gets stuck in a car park!"
Wow ,we bought our FJ62 new in 89' I don't remember it looking that good , we still love driving her.
When I first saw it, I thought:" leave it alone, it looks really nice anyway". I changed my mind once you'd restored it. Lovely and modern looking.

We owned this same model. My wife loved the thing due to the incredible visibility driving and she loved the tailgate feature. Slow getting into traffic but a great reliable rig.
I've got an 84 fj60. Years ago I converted it to 350 V8. Nowadays the LS conversion is popular, with the conversion, slow is an option. Sometimes my wife would drive it. And people would want to race her. It's a sleeper. So, sometimes she'd surprise em.
It looks better like new cars built today.

great build mate. still my choice of cruiser. i have an 87 fj60 with 117,000 kms on the clock, garaged every day and used in the weekends to keep the k's down but to keep her reliable. just gotta love em!

Love the 60 series Landcruisers, doing an off chassis rebuild of mine at the moment. The difference being I have chopped off the body behind the rear doors and extended the chassis by 700mm. Fitting 75 series springs on the front and 79 series springs to the rear, and supercharging the 2H diesel.

Love the 62s but my favorites are the 80s. Toyota should have sold the Land Cruisers in diesels over here in the United States.

7:46 The aluminum neck is restored by spraying metals and then processed with a Dremel if it is not possible to buy a new one.

Wish the owner opted for the soundproof of this otherwise magnificent job. I believe dynamats would really make a difference. But, a beautiful job in any case !!!!
The 1988, and before, Land Cruisers, had the heritage of looking like the original Land Cruiser, except the 1988 and before also included automatic transmission, which I believe was not available at the time, the newer versions are more rounded not like the sturdy, body design that made them so popular.
that thing looked in great shape before the resto, I cant believe that it was fuel injected, was that standard in the states????, we did not get injection until the second series of the FJ80 in Australia, they were still carburettor and gutless, I had 2 of these, great vehicle though.
Most US models were EFI by this time to get through our emissions testing. Putting an automatic on that old pushrod I6 certainly did not add to it's performance, even with EFI these trucks were slow and got awful mileage. But it's still a land cruiser and an awesome truck. That this one had no rust was kind of amazing.

great job. it is advisable to remove the bituminous sheet from the floor, there is often rust. 1:35 and a sheet with a partition of a motor shield 6:00 and so everything is done cool, good luck in the restoration. sorry for my English.)). p.s. and the number badge could be polished ;) 9:56

It had a nice used look before the restoration. Imho this one should have been kept as close as possible to the original car, rather than being stripped out and rebuilt. But the work was very well executed. Two things are horrible though: the leather seats which replaced the nice fabric and the two tone paint 😕
